    Best movie of 2022 for me. Also built well on the original. This is how a sequel is done.

      @@heather6668 Now looking back I can maybe agree too 5, but definitely not too 3. Everything Everywhere All At Once, The Banshees of Inisherin, and AfterSun, are better and after those you could argue others like The Worse Person In The World, The Northman, etc.

    It's worth remembering that the aircraft movers and such like on the carrier flight deck are not film extras but members of the US Navy doing the job they are trained for. When you think about the fact that it's the most dangerous workplace in the world that is the only way this film would work. Dark Star was purely a movie prop but it was built by Lockheed Martin ( the same people who brought us the U-2 and SR-71) When it was picked up by one of their recon satellites the Chines had a bit of a panic before they found out it was just for a movie. "put that in your Pentagon budget" and there's a young officer's career just gone down the toilet.

      It's a great flick, but I don't think it'll beat Everything Everywhere All at Once. That has a unique script while Maverick is a good movie, but it's not exactly an amazing script from screen writing point of view.

    Thanks for reacting. You like good, classic movies and flying? Here is a tip: "The Right Stuff" (1983) - Ed Harris and many, many great actors are in it. (Only reactor to watch it after a year of nagging is "Popcorn in Bed", it looks like her fans liked it...) Ed Harris is also great in "Apollo 13" - Both of them are based on true stories. So there is a bit of a history lesson for free as well.

    The aircraft Darkstar, they actually built a full scale prop for the filming. It was built by Lockheed Martin, specifically its elite and advanced division SkunkWorks (u can see the Skunk logo on the gear and on the vertical stabilizer tail). They are the same guys that built many former top secret black budget and highly advanced aircraft for the US military like the SR-71, F-117, F-22, F-35.

  • @owenirc5139
    @owenirc5139 Год назад +5

    Subtle item for you guys. Much of the filming was at Fallon Naval Air Station in Nevada, so they were around the Navy non stop, and they got a briefing on careers. All the pilots are Lieutenants. This is O-3 in rank structure. About 4-8 years service and flying since year 2 or 3. Mav is an O-6, a Captain which is far, far above O-3. O-7, O-8 and up are various "stars" Admiral. It's a hard jump from Captain to Admiral. Requires a Pentagon stint and a lot of years. Mav spent the years flying. The pay difference is significant, and even more significant, pension level post retirement.
    P-51s are not cheap to maintain and Mav sort of needs an O-7 promotion for the pension to manage comfort. But Penny (an Admiral's daughter) owning that bar, they'll be okay in the elderly years.

    Val Kilmer had throat cancer and it damaged his vocal cords. They did enhance his voice.
