Future Retro | Animusic Cover

- Back in elementary school our music teacher occasionally used to play Animusic videos. And it got pretty hype. Animusic takes MIDI-based music and generates 3D visualizations of the music being played by robots and machines.
This song is the first track off of their first video album and kicks things off the right way. With some 80s synth rock! I especially always loved that sick red sawtooth laser. Thanks to the KingKorg for helping me pull that off.
If you grew up watching Animusic then hopefully this brings back some good memories, and if this is new to you, then welcome to the world of Computer Animated Music! We’re living in the future … retro.

Dude this was awesome. I was an alto player and had tried to put together some guys to pull something like this off. It didn’t come to fruition and have wanted to do it ever since. To see this is really inspiring. I’m hoping to emulate a cover like this for that song. Beautiful dude. Great work.

That was kick-ass. I always wondered if a band/musician would try to actually play that song. Of the Animusic videos, Future Retro is by far, my favorite. Using the Sax was really cool.

now this is how to do an animusic cover. Woo!
Very nice. It would be fun (for me) to be able to actually play the electric guitar parts on an electric guitar. It's my favorite instrument, but I do all my electric guitar parts in a DAW, since I can't play a note any stringed instrument. I recorded that part by playing a pretty horrible sounding (almost tinker-bell) sound on a Yamaha DX-7. But for some reason when I ran it thru a rack-mount distortion and multi-effects unit, it sounded a LOT like maybe Allan Holdsworth's sound. (I was a big fan of his and David Gilmore.)
Anyway, once I noticed it was sounding somewhat ok, I then ran that into an old vintage Ampeg tube amp from the 50's, mic'd it with an SM-57, and ran that back into the DAW. I'd never heard another keyboardist get a good-ish electric guitar sound, so I was thrilled.
A couple of years later, Jordan Rudess took it to a whole other level. Plus he could actually play his parts live -- I saw DT on the Scenes from a Memory tour, and in the middle of an intense riff, he switched to his other hand seamlessly, turned completely away from the keyboard and had a 30-second conversation with his sound tech. I think Jordan is an alien.
