Keyboard Replacement on Toshiba Satellite C655

- In this video, I reconnected the keyboard's ribbon cable on this Toshiba Satellite C655 to see if the keyboard was bad, or there was just a poor connection. Turns out, the keyboard was bad, so I replaced it. The old keyboard had "dead keys", a first time I had ever seen this lol.

When disconnecting the keyboard your left hand blocked the view on how to do that. Thank you anyway for posting these videos.
I am watching this on the same laptop in the video that I have fixed, it had bad hinges, bad speakers, bad os, ect ect. I have fixed MANY of these with hinge issues which lead to many other problems. The customer didn't need the laptop back, so it was mine! Yeah the hinges are cheap[ and rip out of the casing and can destroy the power cable and much more. These things are flooding in with hinge issues.
I really liked this video. I just yesterday did a teardown of my computer, also a Satellite C655 (model S5501), so it was very topical. I'm not sure that your original keyboard is OEM. The one I have, which looks exactly alike. is not at all rigid, but very flexible. BTW, the ribbon cable gave me fits trying to install, as it does not have a "flip-up / lay-in" socket, but a close, very tight, "slide in / lock bar socket."
i'm currently having this problem. This was very helpful. (using virtual keyboard to type this lol)
Does the ribbon go over the clip or under? I don't have the clip so I I'm using some hard plastic from a package. Thanks in advance.

How does he disconnect the keyboard from the computer? It doesn’t show a close up. Need a better view anyone can help me?
What type of Phillips heads screwdriver did you use to remove the keyboard screws? I have a Toshiba Satellite 655 laptop that needs a new keyboard, but the keyboard screws under the bezel are really tight.
It requires screwdrivers with tiny heads. You can find them at any hardware store, or Walmart.
I messed my keyboard up by spewing beer on it when I sneezed! LOL! And believe you me, that ribbon cable is not as easy to replace as this expert made it sound. You need about 4 hands because the latching slides keep getting bumped in on one side or the other so it took me a dozen tries. :)

I'm kind of curious, how often do you see bad hinges on these C655 Toshibas? I might be getting one soon from a neighbor and I'm worried whether the hinge will fail or not because I've seen a lot of stuff on them.
+Jacob's Channel I have a this exact same model and my left hinge is bad and pieces broke off into my fan.
If i tilt it, i can still hear a piece rattling in it, so i just leave my lid up all the time.
Now im watching this video, because the last letter of the alphabet key and my directional arrow keys arent working. (I just realied how ironic it is trying to tell someone about the key when i cant type it lol)

Sounds like a "wonderful" (In quotes for a reason :P) laptop.
my keys stopped working just today, and i now discovered that my question mark key and my FN key doesn't work. not to mention my fan is extremely loud and has been for over a year now.
It sounds like its grinding at times but then it will get quiet. Funny thing is, my laptop has never had a thermal shut down or got too hot *crosses fingers so i don't jinx myself*
I really dont wanna shell out cash for a new laptop, this one works fine, its just the physical hardware sucks on this...really bad.

ok, so i actually spilled milk on my keyboard maybe 2 months back.. ever since, when i hit the 1 and 2 keys it types z and \, most of the other keys are dead. I contemplated getting a usb keyboard for it but would replacing the keyboard work too?
Yes, replacing the keyboard should fix your issue as the keyboard circuitry is what got hit first by the milk

My friend has the same system, same issue (kinda), his keyboard is extremely unresponsive and does have a bad amount of input lag, these laptops are pretty much the problem child of Toshiba, in face, the HP systems with Hitachi hard disks that last 6 hours work better in the limited time yiu get from 'em... and the explosive Dells as well!!
