This is a song dedicated to their late drummer. Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. RIP. Syn’s guitar usually says SYN on the neck. This video it says REV. It’s looking back on their childhood and growing up with him. Touching song.
I've been an Avenged Sevenfold fan since late middleschool-highschool, and I've heard almost every song they've made and this is by far my favorite song, I don't care what anyone says, The Rev is the best drummer to ever live, there's even a video explaining why he was a genius, the band lost a legend, and he can never be replaced, their songs haven't been the same since, RIP Jimmy
You know what I like the most about this video? Is your reaction to guitar solos. I remember where your Metal/Rock trip started, as soon as a solo you'd be in awe at the first note (yeah, I also remember that you paused the Master of Puppets solo) now you let it finish, you enjoyed it and then you paused the video. To me that's the way to approach a solo. A part from that great video! Plus I gotta a song that's been haunting me for years, I'll be glad if you wanna check it out: Staind - Something To Remind You (Live At Mohegan Sun)
Thank you so much for all the kindness you have prompted on your channel and I personally appreciate how genuine you are. This channel became one of my favorites and it’s one of ways I love to spend my free time. Congratulations on you and the wifey! -Bryan

This song is dedicated to Jimmey "The Rev" Sullivan, their founding drummer, who passed away in 2009 of an overdose. I believe this song was partially written by Jimmy, though about his grandfather
Beautiful thing of this album to me, is it came out right as my brother passed away, it was a wonderful healing aid to process grief. This and victim were the hardest songs to listen to.

Always mate, always! I and our band even did it at our college fest.. We didn't do the song justice neither did the crowd. Our hearts were atleast in the right place but can't blame people of a country who just don't follow rock/metal at all.. But its been 10 years now, I dont regret it and I'm sure neither do the rest of my old band/gang..
You talked about the metal elitists, the rule is pretty simples: always ignore them. Listen to whatever you like and don't care about labels and subgenres!
I go from metal to k-pop or j-pop to prog rock to edm to hiphop on a daily basis. Getting rid of my bias towards new things was one of the best decisions I ever made.
"Elitist" & "gatekeeper" remarks leveled against others is the easy way out. The United States of America would never have come into existence if it were not for criticism & dissension, don't forget it. Freedom of expression, including the freedom to criticize, promotes liberty and tolerance, while censorship, including self-censorship, destroys these very same values that have been given to us at great cost, a cost that continues to be paid. Differences should be appreciated, including differences of opinion, they should not be punished by the overly sensitive, the easily offended & those with fragile eggshell minds, or those with tender sensibilities that are easily bruised. Everyone deserves a seat at the table, even though everyone is not going to get everything they want. Just put your big boy pants on & counter the criticism with contentions of your own, valid assertions, that's how it works. Those that are intolerant bigots are also those that love slapping labels on others. I guess if you're incapable of constructively arguing against criticisms, well then one & two word labels are the way to go for you.
Troubled people are the best at creating some of the most radical music.. The music even future generations are in awe of.. Its just how it is. Maybe coz it's difficult for them to accept life as is and they just know the escape route by venting out.. I just hope I had even 1% of that skill.. I'm always left begging
I believe the rev wrote fiction . Recorded the drums and the backing vocals before he passed away. It gives the song a bit of an eerie sound. The song is very sad if you really listen to the lyrics.
