A beautiful and haunting rendition of a song my late Mum used to sing to me, when I was a child. RIP to Sinead O'Connor. A true talent, way ahead of her time. May she now find the peace she longed for.
I agree totally. ...if you ever sing this song overseas .Tears will follow.....for the irish....not here...this is for you.... remember you can always go home Greetings from IRELAND 😉
It's my brothers seventh aniiversary of his passing today with him being the elder . We use to sing this as kids and as adults when bevvied . It was played at his funeral . It's beautiful . Thankyou ♡
I think it's about the bond between two brothers and how one small act of kindness can seem huge to a child. The return of this act later shows the effect it had on one of the boys and how he remembered it all his life. One good turn deserves another!!!!
Omg 😳 sinead o connor sings that song so beautiful ❤️💙 with love... I saw sinead at electric picnic in 2014 and she was mind blowing.... Well done Sinead x ♥️
40 years ago when I was 4, I used to sing his for my Grandad Clemence. Always loved this song, Grandad is long gone, but this really just took my breath away. Never would have expected it. No drama.
This song always reminds me of my mum, she used to sing this to me claiming it used to cheer me up. Couldnt be further from the truth this song always brings a tear to my eye. Nicely sang sinead, me mum was better though :)
It was written in 1902: "Two Little Boys" is a song written by American composer Theodore F. Morse and lyricist Edward Madden. It was written in 1902 and became a popular music hall song of the time, especially by Scottish singer Harry Lauder. It describes the story of two boys who grow up to fight in a war.
She's a gem this lady! Considering her ups & downs (if you know her story) she's a fighter & stronger than most people could ever realise! Beautiful song & really well done by her! Never give up Sinead cos too many people love ya!
Sinaed proudly sang this episode of, life and endurance, of men and women, and what can be learn't from other peoples experiences. I can only cry, but Sinaed can sing! Eddie
it was written in 1902 by two song writers Theodore Morse and Edward Madden, about a story in a victorian childrens book which involved two boys who grew up together and fought in the napolean war, but it relates to every era thats why everyone thinks its about different things
This song celebrates humanity and decency It does not celebrate war but looks at the shocking reality the two "brothers" find themselves caught up in.For generations men have caught up in wars not of their making. Of course they turned to their brothers in arms, who else did they have on those lonely battlefields and ike my Grandfathers and my Father who saw their mates slaughtered They come home angry and disillusioned .What happened to you to make you so angry?
i don't think she misses the 'point'. rather she's interpreted it a different way and made her own 'point'. personally i think those who think she is missing the 'point' are the ones missing the 'point' and should try listening again and they might actually see that she's given a whole new meaning to this song, making it just as powerful as the original but in a different way. the only true similarities are the lyrics.
don't give me a thumbs down! it's a valid question. it's like a guy singing 'it's raining men'. although sinead o'connor does look like a boy. THUMBS DOWN BACK AT YOU!
considering the point of origin it's a fairly brave decision for her to sing this song especially as the other commonwealth troops got their own flags and officers, independence and so on and didn't have to put up with the tans auxillaries and so on....
My twin brother comited suicide 17 years ago we sang this in school as kids he was 24 when he passed my mother died of brain and lung cancer two weeks.. Mind my mam Peter it's your turn to have her now gone but never forgotten love ye Y. N. W. A
@forestroads Well, maybe that nobody can do it as good as Rolf Harris, or that the song loses an important effect without the military march rythm, but she is of course allowed to make her version. It is a good song well worth singing. Very good quality for a simple mobile phone movie, they are usually awful.
Just a bit of correction Rolf Harris heard this song( poem) from an Australian Bushman, he liked it so much he turned it into a song, i don't think " ranks " was in the original version.
@forestroads ITS the moment, the dream thtat u will never always be able to convey, only a true artist can understan or ,,sometimes convey the point if ur lucky...
Sinead has lost a lot of her great voice. But none of her Roots. She is one of the greatest artists ever to come out of Ireland. You mightn't like her views but she wouldn't care whether you did. you won't see Bob Geldof or Bono singing two little boys
Larry Tynan I love your comment, it’s so true. One of the many reasons I love Sinead is her fragile humanity, she has never become a stuck up celebrity and she has always had the courage of her convictions. This is a raw, honest and very emotive rendition of the old Morse and Madden song.
How can anyone say that Rolf makes it more moving or beautiful? Rolf's version has drums, and all sorts of crass crap going on. It's very "over the top chaps" "tally-ho!" This version is more real for me.
It would appear that the powers that be have removed this song due to its creator! Shame my late uncle used to sing this to me and my cousin he wasn’t as talented as sinead but it got the job done , it’s only a song guys come on! 😢
@belintel I have been in a situation where my neighbour from 2 doors turned out to be the so called "enemy". I am still glad I left and came home as I hate to think what either of us might have felt we were duty bound to do
Good but not as good as Rolf Harris.....I think something about his voice and the simplicity of his vocals [when compared to sineads version] just makes one forget about everything except the words and feeling....
Sinéad O'Connor was born in Dublin, Ireland on December 8th, 1966. A " Free Stater" who went on to work in the Province quite successfully in movies and music. So before you start throwing abuse it is probably a good idea to, CHECK YOUR FACTS FIRST... The song has strong associations with the Empire and it's wars and as someone who actually checks out the history of things it is not an immediate fit with the "Irish" memory of the Empires "glorious dead"
She does not have the melody that Rolf has...sorry. Rolfs brings me to tears - this doesn't - its just a song being sung. And in a hurry as well at some points.....
As well as she can sing, I regret that I have to give this a dislike. Nothing compares to the original, and this fails to touch me. Nice try nonetheless
Dont know about that. It is 100 percent a song about the American Civil War, I know that for certain. Rolf may have heard a bushman sing it once but it is about the US Civil War 1861-1865. Rolf sings it A LOT better than Sinead O'Connor
There's not much to this song melodically so she's done well without any accompanyment. Saying that, however, there's some off notes in there that just don't work. She's a great singer but that performance doesn't cut it.
I'm 69 yrs this was sang to me and I sang it to my four children and five grandchildren... Now I'll sing it to my great grands!
A beautiful and haunting rendition of a song my late Mum used to sing to me, when I was a child.
RIP to Sinead O'Connor.
A true talent, way ahead of her time.
May she now find the peace she longed for.
My mother sang this to me all the time as a child. It makes me cry, you did it so beautifully, Sinead.
This is the best version of this song that I have ever heard. Thank you Sinead. You're beautiful.
I agree totally. ...if you ever sing this song overseas .Tears will follow.....for the irish....not here...this is for you....
remember you can always go home Greetings from IRELAND 😉
It really makes me cry to hear this song. I love my brother, Pete. We began life in an orphanage. Happily we have been together for nearly 50 years.
Tim Wright i can see how this song must have a really special meaning for you
@@margaretcronin5581 is he the one that missed the red? (if your the time wright i know youll know what that means)

Beautiful altogether. Powerful stuff. Thanks Sinead.
40 years ago when I was 4, I used to sing his for my Grandad Clemence.

Never would have expected it.
No drama.

My mum remembered this also as a young girl. Beautiful
I have no sound, but who cares it’s Sinead doing silence beautifully.God bless you my Irish rose.RIP darlin Sinead xx❤xx
No music or no back up singers. In my humble opinion she was courageous takikng it on and did a bang up job. A privilege to listen to.
Uncle Joe n John -
Thanks again Sinéad, love you to bits
Still gives me goose bumps this song. Love Rolf, and hats off to Sinead for her choice of song. A lovely surprise.
The good old days, when we could express positive comments about Rolf.
GREAT! Thank you for sharing.
rare treat!! thanks
Thanks! Never heard this one!

Amazing on every level
i love the raw emotion of this
love her voice
i will always love Rolf for this great song
The Rolf Harris version always gets me emotional.
Very nice! Thanks a lot for posting this.
She is definitely good just singing without any backup.
great song
REST IN PEACE Sinead. 😢😢😢
Sinaed proudly sang this episode of, life and endurance, of men and women, and what can be learn't from other peoples experiences.
I can only cry, but Sinaed can sing!
Eddie
My mam used to sing me this song while she rubbed my head to sleep as a little girl 🥰🥰🥰
I love her voice.
So good. Two little boys...Two brothers saveing each other...To Grant...RIP..John
I miss you
lovely!
Ta voix seule est une musique ma belle , je t'aime infiniment ❤❤😢❤ respect, mon incomparable ❤
Well in Sinead ♡
I prefer Sinead's, honestly. It has more impact on me than Rolf's does.
it was written in 1902 by two song writers Theodore Morse and Edward Madden, about a story in a victorian childrens book which involved two boys who grew up together and fought in the napolean war, but it relates to every era thats why everyone thinks its about different things
Beautiful.
Hopefully she found some peace before she went. RIP Sinead. Too honest for the world.
a haunting rendition of a very moving song, Sinead's voice gives this fantastic song another dimension
Beautiful ❤️
❤ so sweet

i remember this from trainspoting
If that isn't the sadest scene to have ever been put into a film then I don't know what is.
a legent love her
Hopefully she found some peace before she went. RIP Sinead.
havent heard that song i will go check it out
She does a good job of singing without music, singing acapella is not easy.
i don't think she misses the 'point'. rather she's interpreted it a different way and made her own 'point'. personally i think those who think she is missing the 'point' are the ones missing the 'point' and should try listening again and they might actually see that she's given a whole new meaning to this song, making it just as powerful as the original but in a different way. the only true similarities are the lyrics.

My father would sing this to me as a kid … he died on Tuesday …
It takes a bit of courage to do it unaccompanied. Respect.
A nod and a wink to the Knights Templar, whose pictorial motif was always two knights on a single horses back.
Only Rolf can sing this song with real sorrow/joy!
Happy 80th birthday Rolf Harris! The greatest Aussie export ever!
U will live 4EVER!!
this comment doesnt stand the test of time , hes a nonce take him back please
That aged well 😂
i'm a bit biased i suppose but sinead i luv ya singing this, cant wait for the new album 20/02/2012,
So sad rip sinead
i'd like to heard the dubliners sing this
Very Good! Think it was filmed on a mobile.
considering the point of origin it's a fairly brave decision for her to sing this song especially as the other commonwealth troops got their own flags and officers, independence and so on and didn't have to put up with the tans auxillaries and so on....

This is the oldest RUclips upload I've come across, so far.
Rest in peace, darling Sinead.
oh so when 'we' were two little boys is third person is it?
what a great performance .....more...more...

eh..you might want to revise this
Just a bit of correction Rolf Harris heard this song( poem) from an Australian Bushman, he liked it so much he turned it into a song, i don't think " ranks " was in the original version.
true that
46 people have never had a proper childhood
Rip
Anyone can have to much Rip
Oh not like, LOVE
sorry bout that he just angered me so much with his comment using words like taig
Gordie563, I notice you have CLANNAD in your favourite videos. Are they not also 'Taigs.' Grow up
@forestroads ITS the moment, the dream thtat u will never always be able to convey, only a true artist can understan or ,,sometimes convey the point if ur lucky...
the sploogenessabounds version (single version) is so superior. this song does not sound right without the accent.
Well done Sinead, you just took a perfectly good song and stuffed it right up...
Can’t hear it! 😞😞😞
This song was written in 1902 about the American Civil War.
Rolf did not write this, it was written in 1903
Sinead has lost a lot of her great voice. But none of her Roots. She is one of the greatest artists ever to come out of Ireland. You mightn't like her views but she wouldn't care whether you did. you won't see Bob Geldof or Bono singing two little boys

Yeah, ok, but how well can she do 'Jake the Peg' & how good is she on a woofle board?!?!?!? ;)
It would appear that the powers that be have removed this song due to its creator! Shame my late uncle used to sing this to me and my cousin he wasn’t as talented as sinead but it got the job done , it’s only a song guys come on! 😢
rolf harris is shite, her version has more heart and soul this his ever did
I prefer the Splodgenessabounds Version!!!!
it's direct speech she's quoting, the singer of the song isn't one of the two boys in the song.
wonder if she can play the wobble board.
@belintel I have been in a situation where my neighbour from 2 doors turned out to be the so called "enemy". I am still glad I left and came home as I hate to think what either of us might have felt we were duty bound to do
@antmania
I believe it was actually an American Civil war song originally
because narrators speak from a narrators point of view
this is from the boys point of view.
is she singing 'when they were two little boys'?
no
Quite good actually...but it'll always be Rolf's.
20th cen

A bit to wailing to my tastes, Otherwise nice.
@Ragnemalm nobody can beat Rolf. Once in a lifetime performance
She does not have the melody that Rolf has...sorry. Rolfs brings me to tears - this doesn't - its just a song being sung. And in a hurry as well at some points.....
why's a woman singing a song 'when we were little boys'?
As well as she can sing, I regret that I have to give this a dislike. Nothing compares to the original, and this fails to touch me. Nice try nonetheless
Spock 42 I see what you did there ;)
blah
