    In the higher gain settings, the BH sounds more open, less compressed, which I like. I expected to like the Rocker 15 more. As long as the cleans are the same, I think the BH sounds marginally better.

    I have the Brent Hinds Terror(With Nos Telefunken EL84’s, and assorted preamp tubes) and I just ordered a Rocker 15 Terror as well...I play a stereo setup with an Xotic Stereo X Blender...That switching pedal allows me to run 3 amps at the same time! The 3rd output is an always on affair, while the left and right channels are controlled by stomp switches...So I can either use it as an a b type affair, or do an a b y setup with both amps running at the same time! This is why I’m really excited to get the Rocker 15 Terror...Though the differences may be small, when you put them both together, the different nuances of the two amps will blend and create a “whole is greater than the sum of it parts” type of deal!
    I actually had a Wildwood Custom Friedman Pink Taco as my second of 3 amps(using a Tube modded Marshall tsl60 for my 3rd amp) The Friedman was an absolute beast, a True Tone monster... Only problem was that it was a single channel amp...So the cleans were very compromised:/ If I was always just jamming out with amp distortion all day, I most definitely would have kept the Friedman...But I really need a true clean channel, as I use a lot of fuzz, distortion and od/distortion pedals, and the Friedman just didn’t sound right when using them...I was actually blown away by the one knob clean channel on the Hinds, to my ears, it’s voiced perfectly!!(I have all my guitars modified with mostly SD Custom Shop pickups, and Klein’s for my G&L Legacy Strat and for the Fender Tele(Epic Esquire Bridge and “Early 50’s Neck” neck pickups...Both are Alnico 3 and around 7.6-7.7 k... So they are rock and Heavy Blues Tele pickups! Not country twang crap...I respect country and their playing, but I just hate the “twang,” no offense meant to country lovers, it’s just a personal preference kinda thing!)Sorry to go off on a tangent, but the point is that great pickups will bring great tone! You truly get what you give! Don’t have any stock or “low quality” pickups anymore, but if you have a problem with the Hinds clean channel, my bet would be with the pickups or the harness...Les Pauls, Tele’, Strats, p90s(both vintage from my 58 LP Special and from a Fano Alt DeFacto ML6 all sound amazing! Even a G&L Tribute Jerry Cantrell Rampage sounds like a beast since I had a Custom Shop JB made...Lol it’s my “Metal” Guitar!) I cant wait for the Rocker 15 Terror to arrive...I’ve got a bunch of nos tubes to try out to find the right balance of in your face distortion and also clarity in said distortion...That’s what’s been impressive, high gain without turning into mud!! I don’t think you can go wrong with either, on the contrary, I think that both are needed to be joined together to make one epic soundscape!! I’ll definitely be posting vids when I get them together!(already have vids of the Hinds, and the departed Friedman!) I can hardly contain myself in anticipation of the Rocker 15 Terror arriving!! Oh btw, I found the Hinds Seemed to pair better with a Celestion Gold Alnico, Hoping the 15 Terror will be good with the Jensen Jet Tornado Stealth 65 in the other 1x12 cab I’m using...May switch it out with either the Fane F70 or Celestion Vintage 30 I have in the 2x12 cab I use for the Marshall...Anyways, great review! Definitely nothing to dissuade me from either amp, I think they both sound great with their slightly different voicings!

    A clean boost tightens the bottom end of the Rocker right up, opens up the sound so it’s closer to the Hinds, but doesn’t sound quite as harsh.

  • @ratbertovich
    @ratbertovich 5 лет назад +1

    Having tried both in a music shop, I'd say the natural channel on the Rocker 15 sounds more crisp, bright and defined, while on the dirty channel, the Brent Hinds sounds more defined. The Brent Hinds has a savage gain, albeit within a rather short range.
    I wonder how much would including a foot switch hike up the price? When Orange puts two or more channels on an amp and not include the foot switch, I don't think "they are cost conscious", I think "they are greedy bastards targeting cheap bastards".

    It's like comparing the Jim Root to the Dark Terrorist, same, but different.Again, the Jim Root had less gain and more highs and mids and was more in your face with that gritty rock sound. It appears the Hinds terror is voiced along the same lines and in my less than humble opinion would actually make a much better professional amp for recording and gigging. Not to say that the Rocker 15 lacks in any way, but it suits my needs and tastes much Mo' betta. I have the Rocker 32 and use it as a head going into a PP212 and a Blackstar mk2 212 for stereo without those lame assed Orange speakers. Great review, as usual :)

    What I found from the "everything to 12 o' clock" comparison is that the Brent Hinds has a little bit more low end and more mid-presence while the Rocker 15 has a little bit less gain and more dynamic clarity. The Rocker 15 is more true to the original Tiny Terror with a slight bias mod, while the Brent Hinds is more related to the Rocker 30.

    Brent Hinds Terror sound more "Marshall", more clarity on mid. and higt freq. but you can easily change the eq with the pot or with some OD pedal...they are basically the same! Same price, same features, same valves...I choose Brent Hinds Terror only because it's....SAVAGE! Very useful comparison, thanks for posting. Seeing as you‘ve also demoed the Getaway driver pedal, how similar to those two is it? I‘m asking because I‘ll be buying a „British-but-rather-Marshall-than-Vox voiced“ 15-30 watts amp in the next months, and I‘m thinking of going Victory V40 plus pedals instead of the usual suspects (Mini Jubilee, Vic V22, Laney VC30, Reußenzehn EL34, R15T, BHT, possibly the new Origin 20).

      EytschPi42 Hmmm yeeeah, somewhat, it‘s not difficult to get it to sound like the more sophisticated cousin of a JTM45, but it certainly doesn‘t do 1959SL or 2203 grit & bite. It‘s a good „pedal amp“ in any case, and I‘d run it with, say, a Super Crunch Box for (souped-up) Plexi/JCM800 kinda sounds and a Getaway Driver for those goopy, slighty-low-end fuzzy Orange tones.

      Mister Knight Owl you didn’t hear the difference in the dirty channel? If not then it’s simple, the amp isn’t for you is all.

    • @misterknightowlandco
      @misterknightowlandco 6 лет назад +1

      I agree. I'm sure it's quality stuff for those who use it, but at a certain point distortion just turns into white noise in my ears and I can't hear a difference, lol.
