You can understand it. It seems like a lot, and it is, but if you slow it down the harmonic elements are all right there, a lot of pentatonic and arpeggios. It's just the application that is incredibly complex, the theory itself is understandable if you know music. I think this guy is incredible so I hope people don't misunderstand what I am saying. @@aeseiri1618 There is a small part in "the eminence in shadow" where the protagonist teaches some of his subordinates the moonlight sonata and many more iirc. She proceeds to become famous for it in the world.
@@RaccoonGoon Yes exactly. And not just mastery of technique Ichika is well and truly in the "virtuoso" category it's also mastery of composition. There's a lot of "look how good I am" type guitar playing out there but he isn't showing off, the technique is simply another tool of expression, that is required for his style of music. It's pleasant to listen too, even if you don't know how insanely difficult this would be even for players that are considered a virtuoso. He and a handful of others have substantially expanded the envelope of what the instrument can do, and that is rare. It was easy in the 50s, the first proper modern solid body electric guitar and a real dedicated guitar amp capable of tones like distortion came around in 1951 with the Fender Telecaster. So back then pretty much anything was new and revolutionary, Chuck Berry sounded like Ichika today, people's jaws dropped (well not jazz musicians jaws....). Then came the 60s when technical blues playing began to be developed and mastered and combined with rock n roll and modern ideas of tones like very high levels of distortion with Jimi Hendrix. Guitar playing can be divided into before Hendrix and after Hendrix. Anything before sounds primitive and antiquated, everything afterwards sounds like Jimi Hendrix, because every single guitarist on Earth was gobsmacked and obsessed over completely relearning the instrument. In 1966 London featured graffiti such as "Clapton is god". After jamming with Jimi, who came to England and became famous there (within days) Clapton was seen trembling so badly he was unable to light a cigarette and was thrown into crisis considering giving up the instrument and often forgotten today began bad mouthing Hendrix in the press... (he said Jimi is just famous because English girls loose their minds over a handsome black man with a guitar playing loudly... he also said much worse but let's leave it at that.) Then it took another 10 years before the guitar made a major leap beyond simply improving on what Jimi had done. It was 1980 and Eddie Van Halen had just released a string of revolutionary albums that had the effect that Jimi had. Everyone realised that, no the guitar has not been fully developed in fact they can barely even play it. And so everyone was thrown into crisis, awe or both and sat down to learn how to shred. And so came the 1980s with glorious heavy metal riffs and displays of extreme virtuosity in lead guitar, everyone trying to outdo Eddie (and often forgotten Randy Rhoads). People grew so tired of this technical mastery that the counter movement came. Same as the 70s developing into complex styles of music and playing with punk reacting to that by being loud, simple and bold and rejecting both the values of mainstream society and those of rock n roll/heavy metal. The same happened in the 1990s, back to basics with grunge. From an idealistic perspective very much influenced by punk. And then it was over. Highly technical playing was ridiculed, the players called soulles and everyone accepted the guitar had gone as far as it would and everything that cam be done has been done and everyone falls into their niches of re-creating the glory days of whatever era they love. Be it the blues rock of the 60s and perfecting what Clapton did, or trying to be Eddie Van Halen and pretending it's 1984 or Grunge or whatever. But guitar driven music had largely fallen out of favour with the majority of the public. I'm grossly oversimplifying but I already turned one sentence into an essay (sorry about that) but now in the 2010s or so a new style began to emerge, again of a highly technical nature incorporating many different genres (that's how genres are often created, rock + blues + jazz and a dash of classical, add a stack of Marshalls and a distoriton pedal and yout get heavy metal). Ichika has been an integral part of this new style that has managed to appeal to even those who would scoff at an EVH style display and has begun to increase the appreciation of the average listener for mastery of the instrument and once again every guitarist who sees this thinks, wow I didn't know that was possible. I thought I was quite good but apparently I can barely play... And it always gets harder to create something new and unique since you basically have to think of something that millions during the course of a century with many centuries of classical guitar before it, never considered. I can't overstate how impressive that is and also heart warming. I've realised I can barely play the instrument and I know that I and many others will end up a better guitarist than we could have ever imagined by studying what Ichika Nito, Tim Henson and others have done with the instrument. It is now as old as the piano was during the time of Mozart. When everyone thought it had gone as far as it could. Then came Mozart later Jazz and here we are. I hope this wasn't incredibly boring and have a nice day.
@rycohen22 true but if someone wants to learn how to play this song, which I do, it's going to be hard to stay in time when putting on/off a capo in between transitions, especially if it's "live"
