      Dandaman V Yes. Op amp distortion get's fizzy at a certain point. If you use a Les Paul you have to dial way back on the gain to get a vintage tone, or else it starts sounding pretty much like anything else, i.e. Hartman, Rat -- not that that is a terrible thing, it's just not what I think TS does best.

      Set your amp with a fairly gainy crunch and put the Tube Screamer in front of it with the level cranked. It will probably sound great.

    • @hla0roo
      @hla0roo 7 лет назад +2

      The tube screamer is mostly for a light overdrive. I use it more or less for a classic tone, but it can get fairly thick. The thing about metal is that generally you want a sound that's less rich and more distorted, hence why a solid state amp with a basic distortion tends to work out best. The thing is that at the end of the day nobody can tell you what sounds right for YOU. The Tube Screamer is definitely an iconic piece of work, but don't let that fool you into buying one without going into a store, plunking yourself down in front of an amp you know, with a guitar you know, and playing with the pedal yourself.
      For metal I'd suggest the Ibanez Sonic Distortion over the Tube Screamer.

    • @moustachio334
      @moustachio334 Год назад

      Use a TS with distortion. It acts like an EQ pedal or just get an EQ pedal. I prefer the color of the TS on an already distorting amp however.

Nowadays this is my chain : Williams Vintage Tone MkI (Germanium Tonebender Fuzz) ,JHS Wah-Wah , TS9 , Joyo Tremolo, Rockburn Delay, Digitech Crossroads. . I also have an Aria ACP-1 Compressor and a DOD FX65 Stereo Chorus , both currently not in use. My general rule of thumb ,is to place Wah at the front unless using germanium anything. If using a device with germanium transistors ,always put these first ,then the wah... Fuzz, then dirt boxes (treat the TS9 like a little amp), then modulation devices and finally compression if needed. The Crossroads is a digital "modelling" pedal so is an oddball, but it's there for the Leslie pre-set .

    I don't get the deal with tube screamers. I have probably 25 OD/Distortion pedals as I like to change them around on my board from time to time. I mainly play clean country style now but I like a bit of bite from my ODs. While I'd like to own a TS9 I find them too mild, just like the Boss SD-1. I also tried the 808 version and was disappointed with the lack of bite. The Yamaha OD10MII is a great OD with more grit than the TS9 and at the moment I'm using the Boss SD-2 Dual OD which gives the option of crunch and lead with a foot switch. Each to his own and maybe I should buy a TS9 and use it as a paperweight!

    • @flowthrough4562
      @flowthrough4562 8 лет назад

      Agree. I don't get it either. But i think most ppl r using it as that lil extra distortion boost to push their amp distortion to the super high gain metal sound. However, i think u can get tons of other OD pedals at fraction of the cost of TS and achieve the same result or better. For 100, i can buy a multiFX with not only OD, but super high gain as well as many FX.

    • @jburdsinfuse
      @jburdsinfuse 8 лет назад

      +Flowthrough I love it as a mid boost. I play at "edge of break up" and it gives me a nice push for lead lines. Since my Tele is already bright, that boost in the mids helps me cut through when the band gets louder. It's definitely not an "always on" pedal for me.

    Not really an all inclusive demo. Tube screamers react very differently with different amps and different guitars.
    First things first. There no pedal on the market that will make a crap sounding amp sound good. Not even the legendary tube screamer. So, first things first. Get yourself an amp that sounds at least halfway decent. The better the amp, the better the tube screamer (or any other pedal) will interact with it.
    Next is your guitar. Like a shitty amp, if you have shitty pickups (and by "shitty" I don't necessarily mean low output pickups), you're guitar is going to sound shitty no matter what. So, if you're rockin a guitar with factory pickups, you're probably not going to get the best mileage out of the tube screamer because most factory pickups aren't that good. Suggestion: if you're guitar has humbuckers, try and find some vintage PAF's (good luck) and if not, check out Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates pickups. If you're rockin the Fender style singles, there are literally dozens of pickups made by Fender, Seymour Duncan, Lace Sensors, EMG, DiMarzio etc that can make your guitar sound loads better.
    So, with all this said, what amp was being used here? What are the pickups in the Tele and LP? These things really make a difference.

    As many others have said, please don't play any more improvised blues riffs in demos, it just makes every pedal sound the same. We're buying these pedals to play either our favourite bands or to create new songs/sounds. When it comes to overdrive we need to be able to judge it with something that we know the sound of, a guitar part from a well known band like Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, Coldplay etc would be so much more helpful than hearing an un-relatable dad-rock blues scale riff.

      If you have to ask, obviously you don't know your real aged guitars from the fakes.

      It's a Bill Nash Telecaster. If you look at his catalog, he specializes in making relic guitars (Making them look old) He has a bunch of different options of aging i think this is a heavy relic. I do agree that this one doesn't look as good but look at his other stuff and it's honestly the best relic job on the market!

      +Jordan IT wouldve been nice to hear on a ibanez. But the difference I hear was a more twangy country sound in the tele while the les paul sounded like a strong warm rocky tone with a bit more crunch to it. I think the lespaul wouldve sounded way cooler with the tube screamer overall.

    I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for my unpopular opinion, but I absolutely hate the look of the telecaster. Not just this one, all of them

      So get a non tremolo Stratocaster and put a Telebanger pickup in the bridge.
      (Edit: I play one of these t-52s and the Tele is the most awkward design visually, but it functions beautifully so I'm still in awe of it every time.)

    So you spends most of your life getting your tone, mids, highs, lows right - ya finally at the age of 98 walk into a recording studio, and the sound tech fucks it all around anyway. The minor differences aren't worth the bother and only serves those that make money off us dummies from RUclips views. Just plug in, play. The audiences doesn't hear the piss weak differences anyway while drunk. Go look at Yoko Ono's fans. They'll pay to applaud all sorts of awful crap.

      +Mind Turd that's a pretty ignorant statement if you cant hear the difference you might need hearing aids

      +Mike Piercey I'm a sound tech that's had the pleasure of using Sound City's Neve 8078. I see you own a Martin, but have no idea how to mic it. Ow the "ignorance". Let me know if ya need a lesson there, Buddy Holly.

      +Mind Turd her why don't you send me the equipment and pay for for so I could my mic my Martin...this post has nothing to do with me. It's about what you said about finding your sound. Many guitarists are a very young age found their "sound"

      +Mind Turd Sorry u gram-ur nazi it seems u fore-got the meening of ur standpoint on dis aregument¿ is it because you realize that small parts of sound actually DO matter. If you and I both can here the difference so will other listeners.
