This song hits me hard. I’m 22 years old and I met the woman of my dreams. But at the time I was with her I wasn’t in the best place spiritually and I felt like she needed guidance with her faith by I wasn’t there yet. Eventually I decided to leave because I needed to get right with God again and I only left because I needed to put God first in my life. Well since I’ve been single I’ve been working on myself and been trying to strengthen my faith. I really love this girl and if I ever get the opportunity to talk to her again this will be the song I’ll play for her. I just want to put God first in all of my relationships. I might want her but I NEED God in my life.

I am a 51 year old widow of nearly 9 yrs and my husband and I both fully understood that our love for God must be fully cemented and our relationship with him had to be first or we wouldn't have had our love , because God is (LOVE) ! God blessed me with 15 beautifully blessed years with my soulmate and I know it wouldn't have been possible without our love for God . Keep God first and I know he will supply your true love on this earth , if he hasn't already ! This has to be my favorite of Al Green songs. What always strikes me though is how 'well-behaved' audiences from back in the day were. No standing...no jostling...they just sit in their seats... But...I can't imagine how they remained so relatively calm. When I hear this live performance...when I see it... when I feel the passion...the energy...I can't help but throw my hands in the air. Al is totally gone ta chuch on this hear song.
