Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy centers around the conflict between Cosmos, the goddess of harmony, and Chaos, the god of discord. The added prequel plot focuses on the twelfth cycle of conflict, featuring the new characters as Cosmos's Warriors of Light. After the twelfth cycle is complete, the game retells the thirteenth cycle (the plot of 2008's Dissidia Final Fantasy) with new side stories added.

Only place on RUclips I've found this amazing CGI. Not even the movie cutscenes compilations of the game seem to include it ;/
    Thanks for the material!

The original opening cinematic of Dissidia 1 has little to no context on why Cosmos and Chaos' warriors suddenly went into battle and why WoL ended up lying unconscious after that, it was finally answered here in this cutscene.

yeah SE should have make this game before the original dissidia. I guess it's for marketing since the original dissidia is like unfinished and not a lot of contents like this one does. NT is a huge disappointment though

@@jadentran9895The OG was made as a celebration, so I wouldn’t say it was unfinished. This one is just more of an extension and is much more content packed.

That's what I understood about that cutscene. They were removed from the cycles by Shinryu, and sent back to their own universes. Maybe the same happened to Shantotto, Grabanth and Prishe in previous cycles 🤷

Nobody "dies" in Dissidia, when they are defeated they are returned to their worlds.
Chaos/Cosmos summon their champions to fight against the other side to compete for dominance.
-Chaos is victorious = Chaos to all FF timelines.
-Cosmos is victorious = all FF timelines proceeding as intended.
During Dissidia (Duodecim), some members on both sides defected to the other for personal reasons, or essentially gave up because they refused to be pawns.
When defeated, they are returned to their worlds and it counts as a victory for the side of the winner.
      ___
In Duodecim, Lightning and her group sacrificed their "lives" (participation) to empower Cosmos to basically reset the tournament, as they were losing due to it not going as planned.
They were returned home and essentially could not appear until the second Dissidia event (NT).

@@tekcrimsonblitzthere are official side quests in duodecim which adds lore and extend story. Shantotto decides to reseign from her role as cosmos warrior. She left, then destroyed many portals, met with garland fought him. Was about to kill him but then a rift portal opened as she planned so and that's how she left.
Gabranth, after a battle against garland and the emperor was sent to the rift by Shinryu, as he opposed to the cycles. He eventually meets Shantotto here, outside of the cycles realm.
Prishe simple vansihed after garland take down Cosmos in a certain cycle.

    Dissidia logic:
If you are killed by each other, you get revived
If you are killed by crystal people, you don’t get revived
Funny how if the participant doesn’t have enough strength left, they don’t get purified even though the dead doesn’t even have any strength at all

The Suicide Squad (Lightning, Laguna, Vaan, Tifa, Kain, and Yuna) were eliminated by the Manakins but they successfully destroyed the Gateway to make the 13th Cycle Even.
Cosmos and the other warriors of Harmony were revived by Shinryu for the 13th Cycle. But their memories about what transpired in the 12th Cycle along with the Suicide Squad were gone.

    • @Everlarke

I'm going to assume you understand the basics of the Cycles. Up until this cutscene, there had been 11 of them and Cosmos' side lost each and every one. A big reason behind thst was because of the access and production of Mannikins that Chaos' side had; I forgot how they got them, but they have them. Realizing this, the Warrior of Light and Kain decided to attack and defeat their allies to start the next Cycle (the 13th) earlier in hopes they'd be able to win that time around. Somehow. That's why Squall, Zidane, Cecil, Bartz, Onion Knight, and Firion aren't there; Tidus, Cloud, and Terra were all on Chaos' side during this time too; Shantotto's off doing her own thing, not giving a damn. Oh, and Jecht, the final "newcomer" for Cosmos, had given his life to save Tidus' earlier in this Cycle; so that's why he's gone.
Lightning figures out the WoL and Kain's plan when they both try to defeat her, and fail. She then decides it's better to even the odds for future Cycles by stopping the production of Mannikins completely. To do so is practically suicide though, due to the sheer number of them where they're produced. But, Tifa, Vaan, Laguna, Yuna, and Kain all decide to fight alongside her rather than wait for the next Cycle to try again. The WoL stays behind to defend Cosmos incase Warriors of Chaos try to attack her directly (and end the current Cycle that way).
En route to the Mannikin stronghold, several Warriors of Chaos (Garland, Mateus, Ultimecia, the Cloud of Darkness, Kefka, and Exdeath) try to stop Lightning's squad. Her team wins, but it greatly exhausts them...which is one of the reasons they end up dying against the Mannikins. BUT not before successfully stopping the production of future Mannikins. Despite that, the advancing party of Mannikins on Cosmos are too great for the WoL to stop alone (which we see). So, knowing that defeat is imminent, Cosmos sacrifices herself and ends the 12th Cycle (but not without taking out several scores of Mannikins).
After that, it's time to revive the heroes for the next Cycle. Since Lightning's party were killed by Mannikins, they can't be revived for the next Cycle (which explains why they're all absent in 13th Cycle/the first Dissidia's story) as they didn't die according to the rules. So, they all got to go home actually, while the others were revived to fight; Lightning entrusts the rest to the WoL, hence her smile to him before fading. To help replenish the lost Warriors, Shinryu (who organizes the whole thing) takes Cloud, Terra, and Tidus and puts them with Cosmos for the 13th Cycle. While there are still leftover Mannikins from the 12th Cycle, they're no where as many as before. So, this time, the Warriors of Cosmos have a much better chance statistically (and finally win, ending the Cycles permanently).

      @@Everlarke
Excellent explanation. If I recall correctly, it’s not Chaos’s warriors who create the mannequins. In one of the Reports, it’s elaborated that the production of the mannequins was done in World A (the world where the characters come from and where the stories of every final fantasy take place, also the place of origin of Cosmos, Chaos, and the Great Will) and that they could take the shape of people, however, they where thrust into the Rift and sealed there. When the cycles begin in World B (Dissidia’s setting) the warriors of Chaos find the door to the rift and open it, allowing the mannequins into the conflict.

(Asking for clarification) "They" being the production of Manikins in world A? Or Chaos, Cosmos and the Great Will? Which specific ones were sealed in the Rift?
