The more I collect the more I enjoy the Art versus the story. The artists now on a whole different level.
Karen is an incredibly astute original art collector as well as a comic book collector. Extremely knowledgeable about both hobbies and her channel content is absolutely spectacular and deserves to reach the widest of audiences. Good show!
Hey Bry. I'm strictly an original art guy, 26 years in the hobby. Karen is a close friend of mine so she's the reason I landed here. First of all, a great video, I really enjoyed it. Secondly, I just wanted to confirm that what Karen said about the specific piece you bought being very difficult to evaluate is absolutely spot on. You couldn't have found a more "out of the ordinary" example of art to ask someone to explain how they'd evaluate it, for the reasons she mentioned.😉
But for whatever it's worth, I thought I'd mention that I expected that splash to sell for around $3,000, so it ultimately did sell within that range, but the great thing is that you were willing to go to the wall for it with your $6k max bid, because now you not only got the piece you really wanted, but even better, you got it for slightly more than 50% less than you were willing to pay. That doesn't happen often enough, so congratulations on that!
Lastly, several years ago I wanted to own a cool memento related to Stan Lee and I didn't want an autograph or signed comic, so I ended up buying a Black Panther cover by Mike Perkins (I represent him) where he's standing side by side with Stan. So, something similar to yours, but a cover rather than a splash and it's Stan with a Marvel hero. Fun stuff. Glad to see another comic book guy dip their toes in the original art waters. Thanks for treating Karen so well, nice job!
I’ve always wanted to buy a piece of original X-Men art to frame and hang. Great advice.
Welcome to the world of original art collecting .. no slabs required. True believers.. True Collectors.. Karen’s Pages thank you
Karen is very knowledgeable in a field with so much nuance. I haven’t gotten into original art much because I can see it being very addictive very quickly. Great video!
Enjoyed the conversation Bry, thank you.
Karen's art is awesome btw.
Thanks to Bry for introducing us to Karen!!! Great content, original art is so different but the same as comic books, so much more difficult than I thought
Thanks for coming on the channel, KAREN.
Never bought original comic art but I did buy the original animation cell from Batman: TAS with Harley's first on screen appearance in full costume.
I was a big Karen Page fan, but now I'm a bigger Karen's Pages fan!
Thanks Karen & Bry for the great video!
I'd love to hear a more focused discussion about where to start - including reputable sites to buy from, realistic expectations based on budget, how to pivot from traditional comics into original art...
I enjoyed this interview with Karen --- more knowledge can be shared, maybe bring in her new pressing, cleaning ventures along with the original art. Thanks for your content Bry, interesting as usual
Very helpful video. I have four original art pages - Dr. Doom/Sub-Mariner, Spiderman, Omega Red, and Ghost Rider. I bought them years ago and have often wondered how to get an estimate of their value. Karen did a great job of explaining how to get comps. Thanks Karen!
Congrats on your new artwork. Glad you could have Karen to discuss and give her insight. I dabbled in OA but then got too expensive and went to comics. Nothing like getting all the artwork in a comic for $1 or $5 vs one page (ha, ha) for $1000,
Lol that’s a good point
I enjoyed how Karen evaluated the art like Daredevil she has and she has quits great books.
I have always thought about digging into original art when i see them at cons. Thanks Karen for the information.
My twin brother and I owned some original McFarlane art from Calgary comic-con in 1986 (although it never appeared in any comic book, so that is different, I suppose). It was a poster, but we lost it in the shuffle when we moved some years later!! UGH. Anyways, great information from Karen's pages :)
That hurts! It's cool that you once owned original art from McFarlane. 👍
Thank you bry and special thanks to Karen for her insights
Loved the interview with Karen from Karen's Pages!
Nice job Bry - Karen is a very knowledgeable person - original art is defiantly a rabbit hole I’m peeking into
Karen's page (pages) is great. I actually couldn't stop watching the Kirby art unboxing which was amazing.
I'd like to ask Karen her opinion or if there's a process for seeking a specific page from a specific book....... I really liked this video and found Karen very knowledgeable and informative.
I found her channel couple of weeks ago and I think it's great. Thank you!
Thank you, Karen! Good show!
Wow, watched a video on Karen's channel. You can feel the emotion and love for the art.
I have an original page, but I;m getting blank covers and some commisions pieces. WIll be following Karen for more info
Great introduction into original art collection. Thanks for your time Karen!! Made me wanna finally pull the trigger on a piece.
Karen has a great channel. Been watching her stuff for a while now
Nice! I've been following Karen for a short while now and have watched most of her videos. I appreciate the pure joy she has in sharing her collection and the unboxing - it's so genuine! Thanks for this video to both of you.
Thank you Bry and Karen for the lesson. Hadn't really ever thought about getting into original art. If I ever do then at least I have some knowledge on the subject.
Extremely informative. Really enjoyed listening to Karen. Started watching her videos and following her.
👏
Karen is very knowledgeable in the art world. I subscribed to Karen's Pages too.
Thank you Karen and Bry!
This was a great education on original art. Original art is bigger than me…at the moment. Keep grinding bro!✌️
Just found Karen's channel and been binging. Headed to NYCC 23 this is a great help thankyou 😊
Thank you Bry and Karen.
Great video, Bry and Karen! I’ve reached the original art stage in my collecting and I learn much from both of you. Many thanks!
A topic I was interested in but knew nothing about. Thank you Bry and Karen
Great information and a huge thank you to Karen for her time and knowledge on art.
Thanks for.pointing out Karen. I'm always looking for comic content.
Great topic and knowledge on art. Thanks for sharing Karen and Bry.
It's good to see you collaborate with other comic influencers like Karen . And I'm super hyped for my 3 Amazing boxes of mystery.
THANKS BRY!
Pretty much anything signed by Stan Lee is a good investment but that being a Stan Lee splash page signed by John Romita and Stan Lee that's just an amazing piece nice grab!
Thank you Karen. I enjoyed this video very much.
Thanks for all of this information I would love to see more of Karen or other guests
Thank you for doing this video. Karen is a great guest. I am curious as to thoughts on stand alone sketches. I have a few that are not panels or covers, just sketches.
It depends on who drew the sketch, the subject matter, and the level of detail (e.g., commission quality or quick sketch). Some can be very expensive but, in general, sketches are less expensive than panel pages, especially if they are unpublished. As you would expect in original art, there are a lot of variables. 😉
Karen is amazing! Great video. I very much want to get into collecting original art. Alas, it is often very expensive. So I started doing my own art! :-)
Thank you Karen for sharing your expertise!
What a wealth of knowledge, thank you karen for taking the time!
Thank you Karen. This is great information. Looking forward to learning more from Karen's Pages RUclips page. Thank you to Bry as well. That is a very cool piece. I was not even aware of the Untold Tales series. I am going to check that out.
I'm jeading over to Karen's Pages after this! Another excellent topic/vid!
Just subscribed to Karen's Pages! Never heard of her channel before. looking forward to watching more of her stuff.
Thank you Karen these are some very very cool items

Thanks to Bry and Karen for doing this video on Original Comic Art. I recently picked up an original Alex Ross, and was curious about the Original Art market and found this video extremely helpful.
Thanks for the insight on original art Karen!
Great information, thank you for sharing your knowledge Karen! You all have given me the itch to buy some original art now...
Thank you for this original art video Bry and karen.
Thank you Karen's Pages! Great video Bry!
Wow I was looking at the McFarlane sales. Of my favorite covers.
spiderman 1 (the iconic 90s cover) 350k
ASM 300 went for about 150k
Thank you for the info Bry and Karen. Will be useful in the future.
Thanks Karen! Original art collectors are the country club members of comic book industry. I'm not in the club, but thanks for the insight.
Awesome video. Bry ,finally diving into the deep end. Thanks Karen !
Appreciate your insights, thanks Bry and Karen 😊
Thanks Karen and Bryan, loved the vid👍✔️
Great video Bry and Karen, First time seeing anything by Karen but my interest has definitely peaked, can't wait to check out your videos.
I've always heard collecting OA is the final step up in comic collecting. I dont feel I am there yet but none the less this is all great information. Thank you Bry and Karen for the great video with excellent information. Very informative.
Thank you Karen!
Hmm this is a very interesting and insightful video. I have considered original art before but have avoided it. Maybe I might be more open minded about it.
Thanks for the knowledge Karen !
Hard to compare because all original art is 1 in 1. I was going to say about $2500. Wish I could zoom in on Karen's pages in her bookcase.
Thanks, Karen for your wisdom and insight. Looking forward to watching more of your content. Subscribed and eager to learn more.
Thank you Karen. I am interested in original art and not knowing where to start. I have to start small so would be interested in knowing about low price original art.
There is a lot of great low price original art out there. I like going through auctions like Heritage, ComicLink, and Comic Connect where you are more likely to pay fair market value even with the buyer's premium. Remember to always read the description for each piece (some low price art may be blue line, which is art that is inked over printed pencils). It takes time doing a little bit of research, but I hope you have fun finding some really great pieces!
Great video and pickup! Glad you introduced many of us to Karen she’s definitely got a new subscriber now!
Never got into original art but they are sick to see.
Oh boy, Karen just there standing at the at the edge of the rabbit hole waving us in 🤔
Thanx 4 carin' Karen!
You always do great collaboration videos Bry - let's get Karen's Pages to 1000 subs!
Thanks Bry and Karen!
Hooray to Karen's Pages! I have a few pages of original art and i love collecting it! Great show and information. Thanks for sharing, Bry and Karen.
Thank you Karen you are so generous
Congrats on your first piece and heading down that rabbit hole! I primarily collect art. For that 2nd overlay in vellum, that was done for the coloring process. Easiest way to explain it is that those elements needed to be colored separately from the main image.
Original Art is definitely something in my future I see myself getting into.I do like sketch covers and high variants 1:200s.Nice to be the only one holding something no one else has.Ty for having Karen on looking forward to checking out her channel.Let’s get her too 1000 subs 🙌🙌🙌🙌🤙🤙🤙
Great video. There is so much to learn crazy to see the comparison from comics.
Nice video, Bry nice choice on the art. I’ve seen Karen Page once or twice. Headed there next cheers!
Just found Karen's channel and it's great!!
Karen is me mums name since coming back into collecting I’m watching a lot of content & hers shall be another.👊🏽
Great video. I just recently got my first original art piece (Erik Larsen page from Spawn 199). Love it and will be on the look out for more
Congrats on picking up your first original art piece! Getting something from Erik Larsen is a great start! 👍
Thanks 👍 great insight Karen
Thanks to you and Karen for this video! Good stuff!
Original art is a slippery slope! lol I collected quite a bit in the mid 90's thru the 2000's. Haven't purchased any since 2010. Prices are skyrocketing over the last 10 years. Conventions are a great place to purchase from the artist themselves. Hit up the "new" artists and work deals with them then get on their mailing list. Here is a BEWARE to new buyers. Because so many modern artists are working digitally they have NO original art to sell. So, many are offering high quality PRINTS as a 1of 1 signed. It is NOT original art. Do not over pay for these. I looked at a new comic we received at my shop a couple weeks ago and searched out the artist and seller. The price was too good to be true for a 2 page splash, $450, so I wanted to jump on it. I asked the art dealer if the artist worked digitally and he said yes and the print would be a 1/1. I politely said, no thank you. Have fun, buy what you like and enjoy it!!
Good for pointing this out. A monoprint will always be a print.
Just finding out about Karen.... awesome episode!!
Super Excited to see that you brought Karen on the show! 😊- She is Awesome!
Thank you Karen. I have watched some of your videos.
Original art is so hard to price.
Never mind what you’re looking for;
you’ll always find what you’re looking for.
Karen is very well versed in the field...Plus she likes Daredevil. 😉
Thanks Karen!
On my way over to visit Karen and her pages!
Love the content, bry and thanks, for introducing us to such a cool youtuber. Love Karen's Pages content so far.
