Agreed. There are actually ALOT of songs that have that beat sample, it just isnt as noticeable cuz of the production and instrumentation.

I like Hot... but actually it is not in my top Seventeen songs hahaha :D At the same time - it did help me stan them because I actually started paying attention to them with Darl+ing and I was like wow this is so neat, and parts of the song kept getting stuck in my head because of how pretty that one line was - and then the next thing I saw was Hot and I was like wait - this song is COMPLETELY different. And I knew I had heard Left & Right before and I knew it was also very different so I was too interested like - what is all their music like, even. Then I heard Killing Voice and I loved pretty much everything and I was like ok - I got into the discography and actually the song that LOCKED carat status was Light A Flame. Like - a latin vibe with a trombone solo?? And they also do the other music they do? And this was well before I got into any of their lyrics. Or watched any of their content and realized that they're all so wonderful. So anyway, welcome to the diamond life it's easy to slip in I swear they are too good.

Cupid never got credit from Pledis. Cupid Shuffle isn't a direct sample for Left and Right, but with how similar they are they should've definitely said something, especially since staff did mention L&R took a lot of inspiration from older hiphop songs. They credited both Coldplay and Chainsmokers with Don't Wanna Cry even tho that wasn't directly sampled either. I feel like there's some company shenanigans there, another reason to side-eye Pledis.
Shuffle beat is not new, probably goes back at least 70 years [at least]
@@ElwoodShort Was gonna say the same thing lol. i remember this going down back in 2020, my initial thought was "really? youre gonna go that hard for THAT percussion beat?" and I really dont mean it in an offensive way towards cupid, but if I were in his position having a hit song that is over a decade old (almost 2 decades) and has WELL had its run, and is still even played at many american events, I just wouldnt care that much about a similar song being made lmao. But, yeah. I'm assuming thats why this case never actually ended up going anywhere

A very sensitive topic for many Carats considering how Cupid decided to make a fuss out of it in every negative way he could and was being so so defamatory and insulting. It has affected the fandom immensely. But if you check LnR credits, it did change a few months after all the shit and they did give credit to the one who created the beat and not to Cupid. Pledis has never directly addressed any of it probably because of how that event has affected so many. Carats prefer not to discuss this.
While beats can definitely pull certain elements from others, it is definitely a direct one-for-one copy of the Cupid Shuffle. I played them both back to beat and there are no differences. The origin may come from somewhere else as well, but that does not take away the fact that if you directly sample a beat you should give the appropriate credits. Regardless who it is from. It’s a sensitive topic for sure, especially because K-pop artists are known for sampling hip-hop music without giving credits. I’m not too deep into the lore. Only as an outsider looking in can I say that it is a copy of the Cupid Shuffle composition. I would hope everything was handled well in the end. It never hurts to give credit even if you sampled a 10 second segment. It’s just the right thing to do.
