Optimus does want to win, but he wants to win peacefully. Winning because of megatron’s death would provide an unfair advantage to the autobots in Optimus’ eyes. He wants to win by the two sides making amends and ultimately rebuilding their race, which is something he managed to achieve in kingdom. Like they said: till all are one.

Get the context here - he was killing Megatronus Prime aka the Fallen, not just for his crimes, but for the fact that he willingly chose a planet filled with sentient beings to place the harvestor and was willing to blow up Earth's sun (despite the fact that there are literally a billion stars in the same galaxy) for Energon. So, it was anguish, anger, and spite that made Prime tear up Megatronus's face into half. Whereas, in this scene, he is making a tactical move.Optimus is a peace-lover, but he is NO GANDHI, and thankfully, that is what serves Autobots best. You need to kill when the situation demands it. War is sometimes a necessary evil to purge waste.

Prime ought to have realized were the roles reversed Megatron would've slagged him ending the war in an instant. Without Megatron the various decepticon officers would have began infighting for rulership weakening their offensive against the Autobots which would allow them to regroup, find supplies and strengthen a defendable area waiting for the decepticons to drastically cull their numbers while they take in the dissidents who tire of the infighting thus strengthening their troops. Meanwhile Prime would retrieve and return the allspark to Cybertron under Autobot protection. The war would eventually end as the remaining decepticons would either surrender or perish by running out of energon.

In truth, another Decepticon would rise up and could eventually be worse than Megatron just to avenge him or get in it for themselves like Star Scream. Optimus is of the mindset that to ultimately defeat the Decepticon ideology for good, then he must make Megatron, the very face of that ideology, see the error of his own ways, surrender, and disband his organization. The end result may be a little messy though...

The part where he twisted the girder made me think of Bayverse OP a little... Optimus usually doesn't do things like that, but Megatron did just kind of admit to leaving his gf and their entire planet to die... It makes you realize that Optimus has his limits. He is supposed to be this really noble guy all the time, and he will save his mortal enemy if it comes to that, but when he gets angry, he does things he never would do in other situations. He did not have to twist that girder, but what Megatron said made Optimus mad enough to remind his enemy that he is not going to let any of that slide. It's one of the most poignant warnings I've ever seen.
There are times when prime is violent or has those tendencies. Like in a comic series he had abit of one of his autobots personality inside his head when he had to combine with them to fight some other guy. And this personality was well. Ruthless. I don't remember who hut they certainly where violent. This is the only thing that kinda popped up in my head when I was reading this comment.
Yeah well, he's a soldier, a warrior, at it's core he is and always will be a good person, but he is not the kind of person that in every situation takes things lightly, there are moments he knows things will go down and he has to be prepared for it, cause in reality just like any Autobot he is willing to kill Decepticons if it's really needed
I'm actually surprised this season of transformers got surprisedly good with good amount of fanservice (Galvatron and Beast Wars, Unicron..so..ok there's a lot I can't list 😅)
People say this show was made just for money and to sell toys. The thing is that was the whole point of the G1 transformers. Sure this show is far from perfect and a lot of it is rushed and random. Especially with the final season and all the random cameos but ignoring all that the story with Optimus and Megatron is great

In the show we see an Optimus Prime who is unwilling to kill, unwilling to make hard decisions for the good of the Autobots and who relies way too much on faith. These are all signs of an amateur or a newbie soldier. The existance of these things would have made sense in the very early days of the War....when Optimus was basically still just an idealistic scholar. But the show takes place in the end days of the War. Optimus being like this....it is extremely surprising that he has managed to stay alive and that the Autobots have managed to survive this long under this kind of leadership. He is way too soft. Now Optimus Prime was never a cold hearted mean machine....but there was always a balance between his good side and his warrior/soldier side. In the show......Optimus is weak and way too naive.

In the show we see an Optimus Prime who is unwilling to kill, unwilling to make hard decisions for the good of the Autobots and who relies way too much on faith. These are all signs of an amateur or a newbie soldier. The existance of these things would have made sense in the very early days of the War....when Optimus was basically still just an idealistic scholar. But the show takes place in the end days of the War. Optimus being like this....it is extremely surprising that he has managed to stay alive and that the Autobots have managed to survive this long under this kind of leadership. He is way too soft. Now Optimus Prime was never a cold hearted mean machine....but there was always a balance between his good side and his warrior/soldier side. In the show......Optimus is weak and way too naive.
