Flag Ov Hate, sometimes I wish they hadn’t had sold those trucks up there, but then again I’d like to get one of those where the frame is gone but the motor is still good. Pluck the motor & throw it in place of a 7.3 Powerstroke. The 7.3s are better than the new ones but I’d take an idi or a Cummins over a Powerstroke. They’re so freaking expansive to fix, frigin epa electrical crap.
DEBOSS!!! I want to know your opinion between the zf5/zf6 vs a nv4500 vs nv5600. details on rebuilding them, strength comparison and weather a fella doing a ferd cummins swap should use a zf or a NV. and the pros and cons of each of them. I have been watching the shit outa your channel sense I have stumbled upon it. you got what it takes to be a Canadian roadkill man! and your editing and cameraman skills are bad fuckin ass!!!
I had an 89 W250 3-speed auto. I sold it last year and got a 5.9cr 3rd gen. What I disliked the most, besides being a standard cab, was the lack of top speed. They were made for the 55 speed limit and stock it was frustrating to keep up with the rest of the traffic. It sold in 1 hour and I got almost enough for the upgrade to the newer Ram.
We have an '89 Dodge with the 5.9 Cummins, and every time I drive it I'm afraid the truck will fall apart. It's not the engine I worry about, it's everything surrounding the engine. He was spot on with the farm abuse though. Ours will start and run, and that's about it. Doors won't shut, wipers don't work, 4WD is gone, shocks are nonexistent, one headlight works, grid heater is broke, part of the fan shield is gone, climate controls are a joke, power steering is also a joke, odometer stopped at around 350,000 miles, speedometer is broken (all the other guages work), mirrors won't stay in position, and yet........it still runs and will pull whatever we need to pull. We use it to haul water (around 800 gallons per load) sometimes and it works great. It's real American truck alright. Falling apart but somehow still runs.
My dad had a 93 250 Cummings 4x4 auto 2door with an long bed .. that thing was beautiful and bulletproof but it beat the shit out of you ...we called it the rattletrap. I traded that thing in on a Tahoe years later what a dumbass I was
Even though I know some of this video is a joke, I still seems like most of the problems you have or had with vehicles and opinions about some vehicles is rust/moisture/winter related and less the vehicle itself. That goes for Dodge, Ford, Chevy etc. Down here in the southern part of the US it would be hard to find a first gen in that bad of shape even if it hadn't been cared for at all. Just my opinion.
Yeah our problems down here are mainly dents. In Georgia, if you see a truck with this much rust, it was probably a mud truck. In which case, you run. Run as fast as you possibly can.
I have 850,000 On my 1st gen and it has been the best truck I have ever had everything still works. yesterday It got a new heater core and evap core .love my truck bought it in November 89 and have people every week ask if I want to sell it.....Do I have a sign? lol no rust no dents. I have used the heck out of it and drive it everyday .I only use my new cummins truck for vacations.
As someone who owns a 1st gen, I'm fairly certain your voltage regulator is rigged to shit. The Voltage regulator is in the Alternator not the Computer. The farm thing is true though, I bought my truck from a guy who started rebuilding it after finding it in a barn where it sat for 12 years. Thing gets going now but now I gotta rewire the whole front end.(1991 Dodge W150 "Power RAM")
Well his opinion is way different than mine. The list that I was expecting starts like this. 1) I have having to change brake pads every 25k because that heavy of truck had small front rotors and undersized calibers with rear drums. 2) The truck was slow from the factory. The joke was that it was slow empty, but you could put anything you wanted behind it and it was still slow! 3) Single battery on a diesel was crap on really cold mornings after the battery was 2-4 years old. Those are the three things that I remember from my 93 that I loved at the time.
That’s actually a 89 or 90 you can tell by the steering wheel and steering wheel column, how there is no plastic trim around the back on the insid, the grill, the bumper, badging, and the hood.
My '92 D250 barely has rust. The Cummins still roars too. The only rust is on the cab corners and starting in the rockers. My '92 ford with the international has same kms about 150,000 and runs the same with minimal rust as well. I think the example in this video doesn't represent a truck that is maintained even minimally.
My first car was a low mileage 1995 Dodge Stratus, very nice car but an unreliable pile of junk. What didn't go wrong with the car? I only had it for about 5 years before I had the junk yard tow it away. Always broke down and the interior fell apart. Last straw was when the fuel pump went out. It somehow made it to 100,425 miles before I got rid of it in 2012. That thing left a very bad taste in my mouth for anything made by Chrysler.
Just took the plastic off the inside of the doors on my '91 d250 yesterday and found perfectly good doors underneath with lots of storage space. I put my water bottle, hand sanitizer, knife, makeup, mirror, gloves, and extension cord in 'em. All that crap weighs less than the plastic. I highly recommend removing the plastic. There's a pretty truck under it.
sounds like we got a couple hatters lol the reason to come is ain't in a four-door Chevy because the frame wouldn't hold up you know what I'm saying they're made out of popsicle sticks pretty much or what they make cavalier frames out of lol
I have an '88 D100 V6 5 speed I bought new. Other than surface rust it runs great. 190k miles. I do have a problem with the ring and pinion, you need a yard stick to measure the lash. Thats getting fixed.
I hate trends. You have to remember there are 3 of us at DB now though. The only way I agreed to the mannequin challenge was if I could yell at someone. All in good fun
The 1st gen had a lot of problems with rusting, but they started to fix up their trucks starting with the 2nd gen, by the time the 3rd gen came out you can trust that it’ll handle a tow truck bed, and the 4th gen Cummins is as well built as the ford trucks nowadays.
Older video I know. I picked up a 90 d250 with the getrag. Shes pretty mint. Floor pan going in, just a section. And I gotta get ahead of the driprail. But it ain't bad. Doors close fine. Surprises everyone.
After all this time I'm still unsure if Rich is serious when he says the parts are for sale. Somethings are obvious, but the badges and trim stuff genuinely have value.
In 2017 I had a 1993 D250 with a 3.9 V-six. The body was virtually rust free except for the roof where the pillars met it. The air conditioning must have created condensation and caused the top to rust out. That's the way Dodges rust in Florida. BTW, it was the same color of blue. The diesel and thje 3.9 six both use the same torque flight transmission.
I've owned so many trucks and the '92 dodge is by a long shot the most solid frame and body. Hasn't changed for years. If you look at the auctions much you will find the equivalent years and engines in a ford or a chev go for half the price, of any year... this is fact so for any of you people trying to judge a dodge you are wasting your time. My 92 ford cost 1200$ and my 92 dodge cost 6500$ within 3 years of each other and same kms. The same examples go for trucks in the 2000's and 2010's plus... dodges will render the highest bids at the same auction, every time without fail, often by double the price. FACT.
The vent windows whistle, the suspension is extremely rough, the paint will peel just by looking at it, the mirrors, along with all of the interior vibrate and rattle at idlethe steering box is a little loose, but other than that, I don’t have many problems with it. If you take good care of it, and grease the front end, and U-Joints, It’ll last a long time. I didn’t buy this truck because I wanted a luxury vehicle, I wanted a workhorse.
The steering column? Oh yeah. You got to get rid of that plastic coupler system (which starts wearing out at around 4000 miles) and replace it with a Borgeson steering column, that never wears out. The lower one, between the gear box and the rag joint is all you need.
For those wondering about the glow plugs, it has six glow plugs, one for each cylinder. If you listen you can here it chewing them up and rattling around in the cylinders and spitting the chunks out the exhaust. The controller feeds the customer 5.9 engine parts from ford and chevy to clean out the carbon
I've had my 91-1/2 since summer of 96 and I'm looking for parts to fix it up. My dash looks like a bomb went off behind it but I was still driving it. I need to fix the AC and heater, the odometer and now the speedo I think, I have drove it since last year. I need to pull the box off and either put a flat bed on it or find a good box, likely a flat bad with some low sides as it is pretty tall and I want to pull trailers without banging up the top rails. I rolled it in 2001 and had to settle for an 85 cab and box that was in pretty bad shape back then as I couldn't find a better unit to use. It's still good enough to fix up aside from the crappy box that never was any good even when new.
I just got a first gen D350 and it is in great shape. If you were going to totally resotre it, how would you go over it? I want a 1st Gen check list. It's got 200k on it, down pin fixed, rebuilt trans, new seals. The wiring is a mess.
Ok...so I'm new to your channel and I've only watched a few of your vids including your swaps. Seems like Cummins is the best choice for a diesel (?) which I'm assuming that either the 4bt or 6bt are good ? Now, which frame/body do you think is the best....Ford, Chevy or Dodge .....in 4wd and at least a 3/4 ton on up ? Regular cab, extended cab, crew cab ? I mean....if you had to CHOOSE AN IDEAL SETUP (s) what would it be ? (I have heard that RANCHERS have been known to buy BRAND NEW FORDS....i.e. the King Ranch....and have the 5.9 installed ....which tells me that they like the Ford frame/suspension but they don't like the engine setup ? ). Thanks for your DIRECT-EXPERIENCE feedback.
I love my ol idi but man a Cummins would be great in my 93 or I place of a 7.3 power joke. Had a 7.3 power joke & was great intil you have to change the expensive electrical crap. Other than that they’re great, they’ll take a pretty good amount of beating.
hahahaha. so basically it's kinda like a case of beer... you pull out the inside goodness and throw away the junky case the beer came in!
Like a woman in her 40's the chassis my be worn but someone always will pound her into the ground a little further
Fuckin mint
Whatttt😂😂😂😂😂 ZIP TIES N BIAS PLIES is here
ZIP TIES N BIAS PLIES ur funny as hell
It was a case of blue. Somewhere over the years it became blue light. Id own one over my 2nd gen. if it had a real back seat for my kid.
I hate seeing the 1st gens in this kind of shape, wish I could just save them all haha
ParoDoXz same here. I love mine. It's in damn good condition.
If anything, buy one, keep it in good shape. You'll always be able to sell it for more than what you paid.
ParoDoXz hell no theyre shit the bodys the frame and transmission is all shit the engine now thats worth saving
ParoDoXz same yo I wish I could buy a junk yard full of em
my 92 W350 Still going strong.
"The worst thing about a Cummins is the truck that surrounds it."
Jesus, how much salt does Canada put on their roads? That thing has less structural integrity than my straw hat!
Lion Celica About as much in McDonald's french fries.
Have u ever winderd why i have the most fresh water on the world, we took all that salt and put it on our roads
All of it. Lol 🇨🇦🤘
They put all of the salt, ALL OF IT.

delete any ford trash from the truck for best results. Use an allison!
The 5 thing I hate about MY Cummins.
Is that I can't find 5 things I hate about my Cummins.
Diesel Den that’s one 1
Them 12v cummins are great engines. They sure are farmer friendly

Owen Bishop it’s an old truck prolly used and abused what to expect
The frame rigidity looks like it's on par with bacon
mmmmmmmm bacon frames
extra crispy
Salty
not gonna lie, we dont have vehicle inspections here, I would probably drive that down the road.
At least fix the turning signals, those are pretty necessary. Probably keep it off the highway.
Timothy Stadlmueller for real keep it under 55 lol
@@timstadlmueller58 Hand signals though
I've seen worse on the road tbh
rust i call it weight reduction
THANK U I SAY THE SAME THING ABOUT MY MAZDA
"This wasn't here before lunch" :D
'91? Looks like an "89 or "90, a "91 should have the big chrome grille with "DODGE" embossed across the top.
dyer2cycle 2 things I’ve noticed over years people always get years messed up and never pay any attention to their interiors
Yeah its definitely pre-facelift
The Original 91 Grill probably broke and they replaced it with an older one
That's a 90.
91 got a new wiring harness and the new grill. Mid year 91 it got the intercooler and the automatic got overdrive.
89 actually 90 had a different grille
My dad had a 93 250 Cummings 4x4 auto 2door with an long bed .. that thing was beautiful and bulletproof but it beat the shit out of you ...we called it the rattletrap. I traded that thing in on a Tahoe years later what a dumbass I was
Jim Reinknecht some people just aren't about the 3/4 ton life style lol.
WOW my first gen is like brand new no rust holes doors work great I have a 85 Ramcharger!
It's a shame that the aftermarket isn't producing cab and bed sheet metal for the 1st Gen Rams.
Joseph Heston They are now lmc truck has a catalog for these trucks ive found bed sheet metal on ebay for the 1st gen ram lol
I'm glad a Cummins fan basically admitted that the trucks are garbage it's just the engines that are great
Dodges are just shipping crates for the great Cummins in side.
98 Chevy k1500 Ryan just a good engine with a free truck.
Dude that's great!
98 Chevy k1500 Ryan why

The ONLY reason I have a Dodge. And I fucking hate road tripping in it. Your legs go numb after about an hour of driving.

I would rather have a first generation Dodge 4wd with a 4 speed manual transmission than my F350 6 speed manual transmission powerstroke
Why
They are 5 speed tho
My father has a brown 89 Dodge ram with the 360 with 55,000 original miles and it's in really good shape
I love my Dodge Dakota. It's only got the 4.7l no cummings but shes got 190,000 miles and never had a problem hell even original trans
As someone who owns a 1st gen, I'm fairly certain your voltage regulator is rigged to shit. The Voltage regulator is in the Alternator not the Computer. 2:30. External volt with computer is how my 91.5(june) is set up best of both worlds, agreed.
If only he realized the price of first gens would absolutely skyrocket in a couple years
I wouldn't be mad if I was driving a Fummins. :P
GameDog that sounds gay

I love how cheap the instrument cluster is on these ,the coloured plastic falls out on them and you end up staring at bulbs
Oh ya the wind noise and you do feel every bump 😂😂
Rust just depends on the truck you bought used.
Loud as hell and going down road you gotta pay attention going down the road. Because the damn things wander wherever they want lol

Lol what
Those first generation Dodge Ram pickups were produced from 1981 through 1993. The grilles with that design were produced from 1986 through 1990.
It looks like they rolled it or something
Tree or big branch probably fell on, roll over would be much worse

he said the computer adjusts glowplugs 😂😂
pre-heater, grid heater, sorry, most of these skits are made at the end of long weeks late at night...
Just busting your balls lol. Love the vid, keep it up 🖒
dakota garey I also laughed at that... my 12v is hard starting cause the GP's are weak 😂
I can relate to a ton of headacks bouncing off the roof

I hate trends. You have to remember there are 3 of us at DB now though. The only way I agreed to the mannequin challenge was if I could yell at someone. All in good fun
Why we buy dodge: the part dodge doesn’t build.
An f250 with a Cummins would sell like crazy bests of both worlds
You should make a video about rebuilding turbos and maintenance or something like that
My 1984 Dodge truck had a much better seat than my 1999
The 1st gen had a lot of problems with rusting, but they started to fix up their trucks starting with the 2nd gen, by the time the 3rd gen came out you can trust that it’ll handle a tow truck bed, and the 4th gen Cummins is as well built as the ford trucks nowadays.

Actually, the 308 engine is pretty solid too. My '92 Dodge is a wreck, but the Engine and Trans are still in great shape.
You mean the 318. For sure they are crazy reliable.
I loved my first gen dodge, but then my camshaft blew apart at 191000 miles. Now I no longer like my Cummins.
You mean boat anchor with a Cummins badge?
Is the 5.9 a good engine to start learning on and as a first project?
A Honda 4 cyl, or Chevy 350 small block v8 probably much more budget friendly
@@workingcountry1776 well my budget is pretty flexible. I've just always wanted to do one so it just seems like I see alot of ppl using the 5.9
@@emtiv5308 the Cummins 5.9 is the small block Chevy of the disel world. Dude, just noticed you're screen name... Burt Reynolds reference???

Yeah.. I would say so.. definitely try a 2002 and under 5.9 12 or 24v as a start easy to work on
not disputing the 12 v is the best engine but it is in the worst truck. but why not buy a 7.3 superduty. great engine great truck
You can't complain about these when your driving on 3 axles, 1st gen 6x6, you should try it
ive always said i like the cummins, hate the truck wrapped around it. do hate the amount of smoke they produce. but whatever
After all this time I'm still unsure if Rich is serious when he says the parts are for sale.
Somethings are obvious, but the badges and trim stuff genuinely have value.
you jumpin on that hood is like you stepping on the American flag. No fuckin bueno 😂
wow..my 2 dodge ,, a 94 and a 87 .. both mine are spotless .. no rust.. .. oiled 2 times a year ..spring n fall
I wish I could find a dodge in that good of shape around here
probably way to late for this comment. but I'd definitely take the door panels
A cummins in a ford wouldn't be a bad truck really.
Mister Berzins not the same trans. Same family
The body sealer goes bad in the channel and lets water into the roof. The floor will get wet in the rain because of it, too.
I saw a first gen rolling down the HIGHWAY in about that shape
Wiring is the Worst thing I hate about the first Gen Dodge
Cummins is great . Dodge not so much I’ve learned by owning them .
I’m currently looking for a replacement for my 1977 d250 fuel line is there anything that’s compatible?
I've owned so many trucks and the '92 dodge is by a long shot the most solid frame and body. Hasn't changed for years. you should consider contributing for the turbo diesel register.

Hell yeah. Nothing beats them old dodges. Dam Dodge Ramcharger got Lonewolf Maquade out of the dirt.
A lot of things beat those old Dodges lol
That intro hurts me 😔
Thanks for the post i love the 12 valves.I wish Ford stuck with international
bud morse international turned into navistar which makes powerstroke
i agree
Greasy ol 12v's never fuckin fail
The steering column? Oh yeah.
You got to get rid of that plastic coupler system (which starts wearing out at around 4000 miles) and replace it with a Borgeson steering column, that never wears out. The lower one, between the gear box and the rag joint is all you need.
Best mod for these trucks is the Borgeson. Worth every penny.
You could start selling 5.9’s to welder up they always need 5.9’s
Hell ya we do
pretty sure that's 90 or 89. 91 - 93 had the new chrome grill on them.
i love the first gen 1981 to 1993 is the same body style

ConnectTheDotsNOW they are all good trucks people just like to jump on bandwagons and say dodges suck
You can hear it crumbling when he opens the hood 😂
That truck completely disintegrated from so much rust. The Cummins will still run for decades.
Lmao glow plugs. Wonder if I’m the only one that caught that
Nope. Lot of folks caught the glow plugs comment. He knows now that it's a grid heater.
Still have the truck. Would be interested in buying the blue interior plastics. Dash, pillars etc. Thanks
I love my ol idi but man a Cummins would be great in my 93 or I place of a 7.3 power joke. Had a 7.3 power joke & was great intil you have to change the expensive electrical crap.
Other than that they’re great, they’ll take a pretty good amount of beating.
the reason for the computers were federally mandated on board diagnostics for vehicles to be sold in the US
Didnt have glow plugs🤦🏻♂️
