That’s my D-E350! Love that thing, I bought it with my first vacation job wage, it was slightly under 100 euro. 20 years later, it still works like a boss. I jacked a brand new Sony MDR-MV1 reference headphone in it and it still sounds marvelous ❤ do turn off the ESP: it disables the audio compression. It then sounds better to me.
They were called Discman up until 2000 or 2001,can't remember exactly when, after which they started making MP3 players and decided to consolidate all their portable player types (cassette, CD, MD and MP3) under the original Walkman brand, which is also when they came out with the funky "W" logo. So if you get a Sony portable CD player branded "Discman", it's before 2000 I have a D-E191 branded "Discman" and a D-E201 branded "CD Walkman", and apart from the 201 having ESP, they are the exact same player, same design, same everything... Just one is from before 2000, and the other after 2000.
I read somewhere that one difference between discman and walkman is that on a discman you can disable the shock protection, and on walkmans you cannot. This is said to reduce audio quality because music is stored and compressed with shock protection active. No idea if this is true at all.
@@Kurazaybo It's just a brand change, not a technical one. Sony most likely sought to unify all portable players under the Walkman brand. In Japan, Discman rebranded in 1997 to "CD Walkman". The "CD" font was striped just like the "MD" in the "MD Walkman" logo. The "Walkman" logo was the exact same as the cassette Walkman logo that was introduced in the 80s. Previously, the 'Discman" logo was used to distinguish itself from its Walkman lineup i.e. its portable cassette player lineup. In the US, they kept the Discman logo until 1999. The late 90s "CD Walkman" logo was used for an extremely brief period of time from 1999-2000. Units introduced in the first half of 1999 likely still had the Discman logo. And units introduced in late 2000 likely had the brand new Walkman logo (the one as seen in the video).
The menu button...... It's got a bunch of functions like turning the anti-skip on or off to conserve batteries or turning off that annoying beeping sound, also Auto volume control, this was probably used for younger listeners so they wouldn't destroy their eardrums...... Also I believe if you hit the play button it pauses....... There's also a preview mode, which listens to the first 10 to 15 seconds of the track and moves on to the next one....... Back in the 90s if you just got a cd, you would just put it in that mode and press play and see what kind of music was on. Also you could have repeat all or repeat one track mode or random track mode. Sony's were awesome and still are. I'm more of a mini disc player guy., Recording music onto mini disc off of RUclips running it through a q sound filter and equalizer to make the music sound as bright as possible before recording it final onto a mini disc. . At least then the music's yours.. you actually have to physically record it but once it's there it's there.
I still have my Cd Walkmans, and cassette walkman. When I was around 13 the banana colour cassette walkman was very popular. Then came the Popularity of Cd walkman. I remember the first cd walkman I bought. It was that same one in the video. I also have a Panasonic cd shockwave walkman
i remember using the discman lots growing up and taking it on the bus going to school and on field trips firt time i ever heard Metallica ride the lightning album was on the discman
I think in 2005 I bought my last CD player it was a Panasonic Ultra Tough model that also had an FM radio. It was replace in 2007 with whatever the largest capacity Ipod Classic was at the time, the thing was a beast and would be my primary music player until 2012 and I finally gave in and got my first Iphone.
I just got my transparent Lenco player (cd-012tr), and tbh it's not bad. There is a bit of white noise in the background, but otherwise it's plenty loud for me and the audio quality is very good. The springy the door is it's main weakness, but I'll probably still use it happily in the future. It's also got 2 years of warranty, so I should be covered when something goes wrong.
Bought the Sony one recently, adding it to my collection of nostalgic 2000s tech, the aesthetic is perfect. Unfortunately it's $60+ with the shipping from U.S, worth it for my purposes but maybe not so much for somebody just looking for a cheap CD player.
I had that Sony when I was like 14, back in 2002/03... The headphones were pretty good, good bass... Not at all like those cheap ones that came with that Lenco.
This is what the p button does on the Lenco disc men What is the P button on a CD player? You can enjoy various playback options using the P MODE/ (play mode/repeat) button and the jog lever. If you press the button during playback, you can change the play mode. During playback, if you press and hold the button until “ ” appears, you can repeat play mode that was selected using P MODE/ .
i have the sony cd walkman d-ej368ck model, i just got it a few days ago and like, cds are more efficient imo cuz u can like just take them out and put it in without having to listen to ads n stuff or get distracted by something else on a mobile device. u can also burn discs if u have a disc burner and make mix tape cds
Usually all headphones on Walkman's ( audiocassettes ) and Disman's ( compact discs ) were crap you always needed to fetch better headphones from Sennheiser or JBL or high-end Sony and Philips . So that arguments is not valid . None Discman was skip free when you shaked it like crazy they all failed and skipped. Your Sony discman from 2002 from E-bay was already crap and on it's decline , you should have taken one from the early 90's as discman . Sony is since long done as brand , their pride is done Sony TV's are way too expensive and are crap , Hi-Fi materials since more than 15 years are inexistant by Sony ( carefull you have fake Sony too that is über crap and made in China or other low cost countries ) . Lenco was a reliable brand from Switzerland "Swiss" they offered great quality and such but their decline was since the 80's and since then it's crap or semi-crap similar to other brands that came back for the nostalgia purpose but are crap ( Aïwa, Akaï, Telekunken , Grundig, Marshall , etc...) they are all cheap plastic , cheap everything . We are very far by miles from high-end hi-fi materials they all became crap since the mid-90's with cheap plastic everything , plastic loudspeakers instead to be full wood and so on and so forth . Today if you want to get real quality high-end hi-fi materials and new you need to be ready to spend huge amount of money which is ridiculous and nonsense . I remember i bought two SL-1200MKII from Technics in 1997 they were only 625€ today for the same equivalent or even not because Technics is now more of a premium brand for rich people that doesn't know how to use those turntables right are way too expensive 1000€ to up to 15000€ for one of . We got so many brands that copied Technics turntables but many of them failed . In general what to expect in todays era to have "quality" without a real service from the brands when you have a problem ? No more people able to open repair stores because they're too lazy . And like i said the crappy materials used .
CHG is charge for rechargeable battery function or showing graph of battery, mine (D-EJ365) also had that function, but I don't know the menu is.... If you want the beeping sound gone, you click the stop button and put the battery in compartment at the same time, then the beeping gone And yes, when I notice that you said "a gOOd AlbUm" you meant literally a GOOD ALBUM Greeting from Indonesia....
Everything since the 2000's are non-reliable are crap the cheap materials and plastic used everywhere instead to use metal cases for hi-fi materials , real wood for loudspeakers , etc... The first Discman from the 90's was heavy weight . It wasn't skip free at all as none were in fact . Somehow why walkman's with audiocassettes were much better for that matter .
nice video !!! i'm wondering about getting a sony discman or going for a new one mainly reason is the laser healthy and that rechargeable batteries seems pretty good too oh well, nothing stops me from getting both too lol
i came back to say that "P" can be "Preview", so only the start of the song plays it may be useful for a MP3 CD filled with music, since you cannot check the song's names
will forever buy CDs till i die
Cds Are the reason that they created movie discs

I believe you can disable the beeps by holding stop while inserting the batteries (it’s in the manual somewhere).

does it sound good? not for an audiophile but for a regular listener standards
Discman in 2022 is still good

the beeping sound is its signature
