Don’t let the dealer do it!!! They wanted $179 for this job. . Filter was $25 and my time was about 15 min. Crazy!! Thanks for your amazing content.
$179 lol
I had to buy the tookbox too, $30, but the filter like $20. So yes, way cheaper to do it yourself even if you don't have the tools yet.
Lol damn, my dealer wanted 200$
Also, don't let the dealer do it, they charge you for it but they don't replace a thing. My 3 year old BMW was scheduled each year for replacing this filter but as it turns out, after I looked there due to weird moldy smell, it hasn't been replaced neither of those times.
i have been doing this a few times now on my car since new, here are my tips:
0) Spray abundantly LYSOL on the new cabin airfilter, then leave it to air dry for at least a day (24 hours)
1) pull the front passenger seat as far back and as low as possible.
2) the arrow on the filter shows the airflow from the outside to the inside of the cabin, therefore when you remove the old cabin air filter, make a mental note on: a) how it was placed regardless of the arrow there because it could have been placed wrong in the first place, b) on which side of the old filter there is more dirt and nasty stuff, showing and indicating which side the air flows from....
3) If you haven't done it yet, Spray abundantly LYSOL on the new cabin airfilter, then leave it to air dry for at least a day (24 hours)
The musty/musky smell you previously smell in your car will come back if you DON"T spray it with Lysol. The musty smell is due to bacteries forming with the condensation over time.
Spraying it with Lysol (Soaking to dry) will ensure bacteries will be killed on contact and cannot reside on the filter once you close all that in for a year or two.
Again, omitting to spray it with lysol, will surely bring back the bad smell within months.
Do i have to wait 24 hours after I spray it? Great information, thank you!!!
I’ll make sure to spray the filter with Lysol and leave it dry for a day
I could be wrong, but I don’t think Lysol spray, or similar, will kill bacteria past 24hrs or so.
If you’ve just installed a NEW filter (no bacteria), spraying it with Lysol won’t be doing anything. It’s the ducting (and AC coil) that has it.
Love your video man!! Even the the simplest of tips everything you do feels genuine, like you actually care about the work you provide to us! You should consider doing X5s too!
Replaced the engine intake filter, and the cabin filter today. Thanks for your videos.
Thank man, just ordered my new air filter so this came in the right time.
Thanks Bryan, my 2015 F36 has never been replaced until today. your video was super easy and my filter was SUPER dirty
THIS IS A MUST! I’ll be doing mine soon!
Nour Hummadi same bro - I would wager mine is original from 2013 lol - the car has super low miles , but it NEEDS to go for real 😎
what you can do you can get essential oils, add some drops or spray it on to your filter your car will smell amazing for months
Great video. I watched a couple others to see how to replace this filter in my wife's 2014 435i. Your video was the best IMO cuz you had someone else hold the camera. I appreciate other people doing videos like this by themselves to help us all out, but it's better when someone else holds the camera. Thanks!
The suspension/spacers on your car looks amazing!!!
Now thats a good clip .Just changed mine in ten minutes on tea break .Thanks Man
Thanks for all the awesome videos. Successfully replaced my cabin air filter today! Now if you could please get some carbon fiber grilles in stock I could replace those next.
Excellent instructional video!
Amazing! Just changed my filter with the help of this video! Thanks man!
That's a beautiful M3
The dealer charges so much to do this. Literally a 15 minute job. For what they charge I thought it was much more complicated. Piece of cake. Thanks.
Thank you for this man!
Thanks man this helped a lot!!
Thank you, it helps.
Thanks! Helped me change mine.
Hey!!! I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you can make a video about the backrest width problem. I like my seats to hug me for cornering. But it doesn’t hold the air for some reason the passenger side has no problem, it’s just the driver side. And I had this problem with my e92 and I just bought a f80 and same problem. I’m not confident about taking apart the seat until I see a video and I know you have really good knowledge about these things.
Thanks Bro! I just changed mine and saved a lot of money at the dealer!!!
Needed this video only 2 days ago.
Thank you so much ❤ never changed a light bulb, my 1st cabin filter change
Thanks for the motivation ! Mine was just as dirty as yours was! Love ur videos! #f32n55435i !!stopped ur video half way and ran outside to do it.
Do you have a video how to replace the engine air filter? Thoughts if K&N filter is better than OEM.
Brian mentions 10mm and subscribers start to sweat profusely...
What’s the name of the tool used?
I already knew it was missing so I ran to advance first 🤣
Thanks Brian, I watched a different video but very similar with yours. It looks very easy how you performed the replacement. However, my biggest struggle was disconnecting the light connection, nothing popped like in your video. Any suggestion? There is a little tiny hole, I almost felt like I wanna to release it with some push pin. Suggestions?
I had the same issue. Took a bit more effort than expected. I just pulled 90 degrees from where the plug connects and it came lose.
Does anyone know the exact size of the t20 screws that hold the filter cover on? Managed to ruin the head on one in my car!
Thanks for this DIY. For two days I payed 110Euro in service....
Hi there, is the filter in the same location on right hand drive models (UK) or is it in the same location under the glove box on the left hand side? Thanks in advance!
I followed this tutorial to change my filter and it was pretty seamless however now my 12v lighter doesn’t work. Any idea what could’ve happened to cause this?
Quick question. How do I add to my iDrive that this filter has been changed?
I did this and now I'm not getting any air working at all. Any ideas? I made sure the connections were tight
Enjoying the 4 screws needed to replace the cabin air filter on my E90 :P All done while standing up
Yeah I used to have an E90. There are different pro's and cons but prefer my F36 435i over my old E90 330i.
I did it myself and found our my sealer cross thread one of the M10 both, does any one know the part number?
Easy to do
Aloha ~~ I ran across your videos and welcome the wealth of knowledge. I'm a helicopter mechanic by trade and now looking at a new hobby: mod my 2014 335i xdrive. Can ya set me up with a basic set of tools/wrenches/gadgets to purchase to get me started. My experience tells me having the right tool makes all the difference! Appreciate ya.... Hoser
Legit as always!!!
How do you reset the service required light or number that tells you that you need to have your cabin air filter replaced after you have installed a new cabin air filter?
if u have gotten an answer to this please let me know, no one has touched on this, (how to reset the
prompt on the dash board) thank you
Do you know the recommended time or mileage regarding how often the cabin filter should be changed? Thanks
it really depends where and how you use your car. good rule of thumb is to change it once a year. they are not that expensive
Every 10k miles change ur filters
i was going to mention you put it on backwards in ur blue f30 review..... but then you said it at the end....
Learning before buying my first car f30❤️
Is there a need to disconnect the battery?
I change mine every year, never seen any of them half as bad of shown. That’s wild!
I used to park my car inside, now I leave it out and the cabin air filter is super dirty all the time.
Man!!
I really like this car
Is it a f30?
Im struggling to take the dam light clip out
Thanks for this!
Did Bryan install the air filter the right direction for the airflow? Some people said he did it incorrectly last time? I don’t know who to believe
I’m still confused the arrow is too tiny in the video . “Facing from the rear to the front of the car..”?
This one is 100% correct :)
@@KiesMotorsports thanks for a great video. Still confused about the correct arrow direction as in the middle of video you say “facing back to front of car”. This is how I installed. Then at end of video you refer to an error in another video. So is the arrow facing from rear to front of car correct? It’s installed and I can see the arrow at the bottom facing to the front of the car in the direction of travel.
@@Julian-tq3di go back to 2:30 in the video (where he first removes the filter) and you'll see because of where the dirt is that yes, the arrow should point towards the front bumper
@@Julian-tq3di just did mine and was confused about this as well 😂. Arrow points to the front bumper!! That should be in the description. Mine was full of crap so it makes sense
how frequent it needs to be changed?
Every 30-40k miles
So the arrow points towards the front of the car, yay?
Ya mixed answers, but the pros say arrow points towards the front of the car
What about F07 ?
Mine wasn't too dirty so I just cleaned it.
It’d be better to clean the air conditioning before replacing the cabin filter.
The problem is I don’t know how to deal with it. Does anyone mind lending me a helping hand and show how to do it?
I have heard of stories of dealerships changing for the low, low price of $300 here in Canada. No Thanks.
One clarification - the arrow on any filter is airflow direction. I'll assume that the airflow is from outside (engine compartment & air intake) INTO the cabin. So, the arrow should correspond to that direction - from the engine into the cabin - Yes?
I actually sneezed when the filter cover popped out
Just did
Such a crazy difficult process compared to a Honda,
Done in less than 15mins.
Thanks, was wondering why my car smelt like puke, easy fix...
Just bought my 4 series a month or two ago it's at 45k miles it kinda smells like chettos when I turn on the AC😂 I'm gonna change mine also
It took me almost an hour because:
1. I don't know a lot about these cars yet.
2. It is a very uncomfortable position to work.
3. The light's plug was hell.
Man the Lexus is one, two, three, to change. 😂 In and out done. No more than five minutes.
You forgot F23 ;)
Anyone else struggle putting it in straight
I swear BMW makes everything a pita. I’ve had two cars where you literally drop the glovebox, pull the old filter out and slide the new one in. 30 second, zero tools job.
facts bro.
My dealer wanted to charge $100 labor plus parts to change my cabin air filters ( 2 pairs - 1 inside and 1 outside) I took my time so I wouldn't break anything. NO tools are needed. Done in 10 minutes myself. RUclips how to do. They would take 5 minutes because they do everyday. 2 BMW dealerships in my city same owner, worse service departments/terrible experience for 3 and a half years. Won't buy another BMW until 3rd dealership different owner opens. F25 x3 xdrive straight 6 turbo
Highway robbery !
