    Thank you for these videos! I'm starting in the concept art diploma program in a couple weeks and it's nice to see exactly what I'm getting in to. :) I'll probably stop by at the vernissage this friday, I hope to meet you there!

    Hi, heres a content idea suggestion for future videos ^^. Maybe show your accepted portfolio, tips on making one. Fundamental things that you’ve learned. Maybe aspects that you might of not of expected when studying over there. Art struggles and how you’ve overcame them. Make an after and before video of an art piece you’ve done before attending the school. Etc!

    Hey, thanks for making this video. Great stuff. I was wondering what the age range is of people in your class? Just wondering if I'd feel extremely out of place applying there as a 30 year old.

    • @vmokry
      @vmokry  5 лет назад +3

      Hi Andrew, thanks for the interesting question. Most of my classmates are in the age of 21-24. But a few of us are around ±30, and I am the oldest one in the third batch (33). I understand the sentiment, but it is more about the state of your mind and not letting your ego to compare yourself to younger folks. There will be always someone younger and better than you.
      But what matters is your progress on your path.
      In the beginning, I felt a little bit separated, as we, older folks, had to solve more complex problems in our lives.
      So you might not understand lots of actual memes, inside jokes, and north America references. You might even find some small-talks as a waste of time. But you can talk to everyone about concept art and design of games and that topic will be generally understood and welcomed with everyone. Art feedback and opinion of my classmates help me a lot and that is what matters and why I like it to be surrounded by them.

      Oh 30 is nothing! There was a 40 year old in my class at animation school and he went on to have a fruitful career. I was also older than most. The only way it was "bad" was that the level of humor coming from the classmates was well beneath me and it got annoying sometimes. In the end I made friends for life from many of them.

    I'm so excited to do this when I get older, I absolutely love concept art and I am interested in everything I'm seeing so far, Syn Studio looks absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to dive into this and start learning everything, I wanna learn all of it!
    Oh and also do they officially use VR or is that just your headset, if they do, then I'm twice as excited!
    Thanks so much for the insight, I was just thinking about the school and I needed to know some more aboit how things work, thank's so much!

    Hi Vladimir! I unfortunately wasn't finally able to visit Syn Studio as I was planing due to the COVID-19: I didn't make it further than the airport :/
    I saw that Syn Studio switched to online classes as a result. Did you have some online classes during your last semester there, and if yes how did it go? :)

    • @vmokry
      @vmokry  4 года назад +1

      Hi Xian. Yes, Syn Studio successfully transformed into online teaching. By online I mean "real" online classes - we got a teacher at zoom/hangouts. Negatives: you did not see your classmates in real life. Positives: You could focus more on what teachers say about the topic or feedback without the noise. Suddenly, the fact that school lends you a powerful laptop made an advantage, because you could continue flawlessly from the home.
      We had online classes only for our last ~three weeks. 4th batch is continuing online now, but eventually, education will return to in-class in Canada. With caveats, maybe, but will return. :)

      @@vmokry Hi Vladimir, thanks a lot for your answer! To be honest, I hope they will offer a few programs online permanently, such as the art bootcamp. Since it is only 10 weeks long, not having to move to Montreal for it would be a way to save some money.
      I read your sum-up: since most of the end of the semester versissages were canceled, were the students able to showcase their work to studios and art directors in those meetings you mentioned?

      I hope you take a liking to that as well. The Arctic base and Asian market had great design and layout.

    Thank you for making this insightful videos regarding the overall course ! I am currently at my last high school year and are planning on pursuing a carrier in concept art . Just wondering, uhm.. can a concept artist be a Visual development artist as well? And do you need to be “ specifically” designing your portfolio towards the gaming industry instead of the animation industry ?

    • @vmokry
      @vmokry  3 года назад

      Vis dev a concept art overlaps. It depends on what do you want to do. CADP is tailored more towards the gaming industry. In the production, every skill is appreciated. One day you draw environments, another colour keys or a storyboard.

    Hi Vmokry, Really appreciate these videos of you sharing your experience at Syn Studio. I wanted to ask as someone who is looking to go there also, do you know if it's possible for international students to work part time to help pay rent during the concept art diploma? Also do they sort out the student visa for you?

    • @vmokry
      @vmokry  5 лет назад +1

      Hi J. IIRC I already answered this question in some of my previous video. I think it is manageable, I do from time to time small design jobs for my clients to support myself financially, but ideally, you should focus only on art related activities to get maximum from the program. To the second part of the question, yes, Syn Studio will help you get the student visa, as Concept Art Diploma Programme is an accredited study program. But you have to do the bureaucratic paperwork by yourself.

      Hi Samruddhi. Thanks for the comment.
      AINAL, but any student that finish an accredited full-time study program here in Canada longer than 8 months can stay the same amount time here after graduation (up to 3 years). CADP is accredited full-time degree program, so yes, you can get a post-graduation work permit for 1,5 year.

      Hi Rahul. I was at the end of the list, the portfolio is not the only thing school look at and finally, the quality of portfolios jumped significantly with the 4th batch. So I believe that it won't help you. But who knows, maybe later I will find a time to make more about this topic.
