One of the most consistent hitting outfielders of his era with a 32.6 bWAR in 14 seasons. Too bad his overall value was hurt by his consistently bad defensive work in centerfield.
I'm so proud of team Colombia. We are competing at the highest level. We stood tall. It's been a long way since Edgar Renteria won the MLB World Series with the Miami Marlins in 1997. Look at us now! This is a great team. Playing against none other than Mexico, Canada, Great Britain and the U.S. We're out but we'll be back. ✌
The semi final game between Japan and Mexico was arguably the best WBC game ever and that perfectly represents just how clutch and entertaining the 2023 WBC has been. You can feel how much bigger and more relevant this tournament has been for baseball.
6:27 - 6:45 gave me chills. The edits of the pitcher throwing nasty sliders while the announcer is applauding him. It cuts for a second to him with his hands up, then back to the pitch.
Yes, the 2017 WBC was a great tournament and I was enthusiastic about it. I'm a Japanese baseball fan, but it got me interested in MLB as well. Since then Machado, Arenado and Yadier Molina are my favorites. Of course, I also love the other participants. I understand that WBC still has its problems, but the enthusiasm of the players is real and I love it.
Always loved the WBC cuz as a Japanese born dude living in the States, that was the only time you actually get to see your favorite NPB star play in front of you. Even though it is ran by MLB, I hope this becomes the world cup of baseball. For most countries participating, this is the "World Series" for them. Which took some time for US people to understand, but now we on the same page. Excited to see how MEX and PUR plays tomorrow!! (Winner plays against Japan)

@@OMG-si3wn it definitely was... knew Murakami would come through at some point, but wasn't expecting him to come thru at such a dramatic timing lol Mexico played soooo damn well. GGs to all
i was at the 2017 final at dodger stadium, and that’s maybe the greatest experience in baseball i’ve ever had. only thing that came close was later that year lol, Game 1 2017 NLCS lol
I'm watching this about a week after the 2023 edition wrapped up. The semifinal between Mexico and Japan had me hoping for a win for Mexico and we got so damn close. I thought that if we didn't beat Japan, we sure as hell weren't gonna make it easy for them, and we did. As for the WBC all around, I hope that more people jump on the tournament, that some teams agree to get their players to play for their national teams. Soccer fans get plenty of international competitions every year where the national teams go and play other national teams. Of course, since the timing of the baseball leagues isn't exactly the same, with some leagues running from spring to fall and some others during the winter, there'll be some more issues to get some off time where international tournaments can be played but I hope we get there.
Hope we can get a retrospective on all 3 of the other WBC tournaments! There’s so much history to be learned in the other 3 but it’s usually brushed off to the side for 2017 for whatever reason
The 2023 was the first time I've ever watched the wbc and I played baseball for years. I'm also over 50. I watched every game I could record and it was one of my favorite things to watch, ever. Can't wait for the next one, I'm hooked!
As great as 2017 was, 2023 feels like it’s on a whole different level. This is the first time ever that my friends are talking baseball. I usually have no one to talk about it with except online, but for this tourney it’s on all the tvs at bars and everyone is talking about it. First time theyvw all discussed anything but football
“This tournament is fun and awesome now we’ve won it”, very American. Joke asides WBC should be the future of baseball. The MLB is too profit driven to develop baseball as a sport.
2017 Team USA is the most important team in the history of the World Baseball Classic. Unfortunately, Americans weren't taking the tournament as seriously as they should have before then, and a world baseball tournament without an engaged USA is not the same (it would be like a World Cup without Europe really taking it seriously). But that team defeated previous champions Dominican Republic and Japan, earned Team USA's first title and finally got American players and fans to really buy in. It will only grow from here.
There’s a few kids from every country who maybe didn’t pay attention to baseball but get into it at least for this tournament.. those could end up being future mlb players who will later participate in this tournament making the tournament more diverse and competitive all around . It already is especially in a sport like baseball that is so much different than say basketball… any amount of talent can lose on any day in this sport
I don’t even like baseball all that much but I will say that this current one is wildly entertaining. Atmospheres are crazy and it is pretty action packed as well
What a tournament this wbc every USA player said yes except Aaron judge but as a half Mexican it was sad seeing Mexico lose but I’ll never forget getting a baseball at the Mexico vs Great Britain game.
La primera vez que veo personas disfrutando el béisbol sin cerveza 😂😂😂 de verdad que es divertido quiero ver más países en este torneo con diferentes estilos de jugar béisbol para que sea demasiado emocionante
We need to change or implement a rule to make it so that every year where there will be a WBC, there will be a shorter MLB season so that every country’s best players can play with little to no restrictions
That's disgusting what happened to mexico. Them and venezuela should have just had a 3-5 inning playoff game or something. Reduced length to keep the strain down and not mess up the schedule. Settle it on the field, like they would all want.
The wbc is somewhere between the Olympics and and the XFL Olympics bc of the stakes and XLF bc everyone seems to be a little off on defense like they arnt quite up to snuff
arguably that Colombian baserunner should be safe… pretty sure that’s textbook catcher blocking before having the ball. the runner def seems like he wouldve been at least insanely close to the plate at the same time as the throw if not for the catcher standing 2 feet in front of it
this year is looking way more fun and exciting so many good games this is more entertaining then anything i saw in the finals and semi's this year world series kinda mid right now compared to these matches
So far the 2023 WBC is looking GREAT! The USA advanced to the semifinals, as did Japan, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and so many other teams. It will hopefully be as epic as 2017. Fingers crossed.

That Colombia DR game was everything right about baseball man. What an awesome game! They flashed the bats and the leather with aplomb!
As a puertorrican, that finals was heartbreaking and we cursed and cussed Stroman for weeks. Ironic that he's playing for us now
Stroman was an ass to my team so that pendejo can kick rocks for all I care
It still stings
Given his MLB journey, it kinda tracks lol
