The number of units of alcohol differ by the strength of the alcohol. 1 pint of 3.6% ABV beer is 2 units of alcohol. The same volume of stronger strength beers or cider is around 3 units. The only safe way to drive is by not drinking any alcohol. There's no excuse for ' just one won't hurt'. Even if you're under the legal limit, any alcohol can affect your reaction times.
Units of alcohol don't differ at all. The reason they exist is to compare how drunk you'll get from different drinks. That's why a pint of vodka is 23 units and a pint of beer is only 2
With how nice non alcoholic drinks are these days, not sure why one would still choose the alcoholic ones other than wanting the buzz. That buzz has killed people 😢

We had a client at one of my old jobs who reached to pick up her phone while she was driving, swerved slightly out of her lane, and ran into the back end of a flatbed truck that was broken down on the shoulder (well out of the traffic lane), killing one of her twin daughters. So, yeah, dude--don't talk on the phone while you're driving.
I loved the officers in this episode. The first duo PC Tracy Cope and partner are the best . I always remember the crazy sisters running into the lanes of the motorway and both were got by traffic, one by a lorry . Luckily for them they both survived. However unlucky for a gentleman who tried to help one of the sisters when released from hospital and police because she murdered him!
I remember watching that when the episode was first aired. Before they’d really processed just how strange the whole thing was, and when the sisters were still in hospital. Such a odd story!
She's clearly had a difficult life, I'm trying to be compassionate but I don't know how you'd manage to go that long without realising you don't have a licence. The tax being out of date is just the cherry on top
So the Guy with the phone claims its legal to smoke. Actually it is illegal to eat, drink or anything that requires you to remove one hand of the wheel.
Anything? I'd love to hear your explanation how drivers of of cars which don't have auto transmission are able to change gear without taking one hand off the wheel.
It’s not illegal. The Highway Code simply states that it one should drive with both hands on the steering wheel “wherever practical” - so if you’re manoeuvring the car (ie changing gears, or reversing). Also, the word “should” implies it’s not an order, but an indication - as long as you’re in control of the vehicle then it’s not a problem.
Go Adam! If I had a pound for every time I heard that shit from someone I stopped, I'd be a richer man now. You're doing your job and someone like him would be THE FIRST to have a go at the Police if someone on their phone caused an accident that someone in their family was involved in. It wouldn't stop them though. Prison isn't a deterrent because you need to actually get caught first. The chances of that happening are extremely low unless you manage to get involved in a crash.
The latest simillar accident happened in Ljubljana Slovenia previous week, when HGV crashed in to a standing vehicle. 3 people died in aftermath, when fire caught the vehicles.😢
Just started on this series after watching a ton of US content. Very interesting seeing the old man's case, not being interviewed until much of the alcohol is out of his system. That makes sense, compared to a lot of US clips where they seemingly get the drunk driver to sign something while still intoxicated. I get throwing the book at them, given their disregard for others' safety by driving drunk, but I wondered about making someone make a decision while wasted.
I think it's a legal thing, back in the Victorian and pre-victorian era it was actually a perfectly valid legal defence for a lot of things (e.g. if a man was caught in bed with another man which was highly illegal back then) - you could just say "I was very much in liquor" when questioned and you had a very good chance of getting off. Now if they make people sober up before interview nobody can say "I was out of it when questioned so none of it applies"
I went to Florida last year and it's lots of stop-start traffic on long straight roads. Sometimes I'd see more people using their phones than not. It was staggering seeing people making calls when driving or texting while at a red light. It was endemic, everyone did it
He could be smoking. Yeah right. My son drives an articulated HGV. He has to keep to the speed limit and keep left unless overtaking. On one trip there was a light truck towing a trailer in front of him. It was speeding up and slowing down and wandering across lanes. A real hazard. When my son finally got room to pass I looked down and there was the driver, mobile phone in one hand, cigarette in the other and steering with his knee. As a professional driver my son has seen way too much carnage on the road and has no time for dangerous drivers.
18:45 the arrogant chap pulled over for using his phone should have been done for not keeping his driving licence updated as well. Would have served him right.
Before watching the scene with the phone guy, he should had shut up as soon as he got in the car and not comment on offence, he was gonna get a warning!
16:39 valid points, but still WRONG. fiddling around with your phone is DISTRACTING. he clearly has not seen those tests made by many tv shows and research groups. Mythbusters made a test and confirmed that it's much more dangerous to be on phone than it is being drunk or tired. there are lot of research groups that have proven the fact that either talking on handheld device or scrubbing away on smart phone, is MUCH more dangerous than driving drunk or drugged.
The red yellow and green vehicle, you'll notice says "air ambulance" on the back. This is a support vehicle for the local air ambulance service, unlike police fire and ordinary ambulances, which are paid for by public money (taxation), i believe that most if not all air ambulances are charities and are supported purely by donations.

You're not wrong. I see signs on the motorways all the time saying tiredness can kill. I even remember an advert about it a while ago. I know if your blood sugar is low, that can be detected and there have been cases where people have been been written up as unsafe to drive as a result. I don't know how you could test for tiredness though. You'd hope that people would just have better sense.
What a joke, the police must wonder why they do this job. Driver drives like a maniac will not stop when told to, are a danger to other legal road users and the general public and they just walk away. Unbelievable!😊
Exactly *when* do you think you have zero alcohol in your system? 12 hours after? 24? 36? Don't get me wrong, I hate drink drivers - but practically a zero level is unenforceable and pointless. It's rare that people under the limit cause issues.
@@alan_davis According to Medscape, whoever they are, one tenth of a percent of a person's blood volume is alcohol or that a person has 1 part alcohol per 1000 parts blood. At a blood ethanol level of less than 50 mg/dL, or 0.05% concentration, an individual is not considered to be intoxicated. Well, I consider 35 to be intoxicated, but it does give up a range to consider. Zero may not to achievable, but below 5 certainly is.

The "professional drivers" day was inconvenienced and that is why he had an attitude. The PC was very professional. The driver let his emotions dictate his attitude.
I knock boy racers a lot, but I do thing every car should be required to have a far more rigid and sturdy frame than what they currently have. Perhaps not as far as a roll cage, but 100% should be reinforced more than they are.
Literally the point of a car imploding is that it takes the impact so you don't. That's what crumple zones are for. There is going to be a certain amount of energy to expel no matter what, but if the car didn't crumple the humans inside would get thrown around more. Look up crash tests of older vs. newer cars--the newer cars fold up, yes, but a lot less impact energy makes it into the passenger compartment.
@@littleblackcarThat makes sense for the front end, and perhaps the back end. However the roof is another story. The roof should never cave in on the driver. Crumple zone or not, if that happens they are dead.
100%. Better yet, traffic police speedos are calibrated so it would have shown as 85ish on an average car's speedo. Anyone else does it, they're just about a murderer putting other people's lives at risk. The police does it, they have good reasons and have used their judgment. Bollocks.
In Ontario, Canada there is ONE exception to the no hand-held devices: Calling Emergency Services. I suspect the BMW police cars are not as good as advertised when it comes to the handling. I drive a virtually bone stock 1990 Volvo 240DL estate. The tyres are seriously upgraded on 15 inch Volvo alloy wheels and the dampers front and rear have been changed to Monroe SensaTrack. There are very few cars, none of them BMW, that keep up with me in the corners. The 32 foot turning circle is a welcome bonus, too. I always thought it would be a bundle of fun to get one of the old 240 Estates various Constabularies used in the 80s and 90s. Decontented base estates with very large turbochargers made them quite something. Mixing and matching pieces could have a 240 that is incredibly fast, both in terms of acceleration and top speed.
It's amazing how different every country handles their situations. Drunk-driving AND causing an accident would be a prison sentence in some countries. In Germany it is a suspension and you'll have to do a medical-psychologigal test ("Idiot test" for some of us) to get your license back after that suspension. A friend of me was caught drunk-driving and he got a suspension for 11 months. everything over 12 months requires the test... He's been lucky on that end. Now he's only drinking alcohol when he doesn't have to drive, so he learned his lesson... sadly not every drunk-driver is thinking this way...
Should be zero alcohol limit. 5 year ban as starting point if caught with alcohol in system and driving. Should also have driving licence taken off you there and then. No delay waiting for court.

The former firefighter is a douche. Bet he was an arrogant jerk back then! His retirement party was a “don’t let the door hit you on the way out” party 🤣🥳. He should also know that the police officer who pulled him over is a traffic cop and there’s another department that takes care of the robbery type stuff.
Most likely. That’s why he’s now an EX-fire brigadesman! (Even the fires he went to wanted nothing to do with him!) 🤭🚒
The number of units of alcohol differ by the strength of the alcohol.
That buzz has killed people 😢
@@as-tm7npcompletely incorrect. A pint of 3.5% beer has half the units of a pint of 7% beer. Surely that is common sense
58:30 that looks like recycling, pressed into bails. I used to work with them, they get hot just from the friction caused internally by the vibrations of the truck.
58:30????
Skoda should run an add that says "Even with 4 flat tyres our Octavia can outrun a BMW!"
😂
I don't drink anymore, but when I did my rule was up to two pints of 4% and then at least 3 hours before a fuel cell breatherliser and home. I was stopped once leaving the pub and blew well under, something like 15mg BAC. Cop didn't even tell me off, just told me that my rear tyres looked around 2mm and would need changing soon. Sweet guy
My rule is zero alcohol when driving, then you know you won’t ever be over the limit
@@mssdn8976 Best policy, I no longer drink however!
Well done to the officer dealing with the “professional mouth” so calmly and politely
I’ve just watched a podcast on them! Completely insane going’s on! I didn’t realise that it was that duo that dealt with them.
I remember watching that when the episode was first aired. Before they’d really processed just how strange the whole thing was, and when the sisters were still in hospital. Such a odd story!
❤
Such a shame about the mum and the boy, but obviously copper had to do his job
Totally unfit to drive if you can't manage the basics like making sure your licence is valid, car is taxed and you are not speeding past a cop.
She's clearly had a difficult life, I'm trying to be compassionate but I don't know how you'd manage to go that long without realising you don't have a licence. The tax being out of date is just the cherry on top
She’s not insured either because she doesn’t have a valid licence! Better she knows now before she’s involved in an accident.
3:21 the way he wipes his mouth as if thats gonna make his BAC go down 🤣🤣
And well done on the outcome of the mother with child, for using his compassionate thoughts. Good on ya
She'd forget her head if it wasn't screwed on. What a silly cow.
The amount of alcohol you can drink before driving should be ZERO!!
too right mate ,
There is no other safe level of alcohol. Even the smallest trace causes impairment
Should be zero tolerance like Scotland.
Go Adam! If I had a pound for every time I heard that shit from someone I stopped, I'd be a richer man now. You're doing your job and someone like him would be THE FIRST to have a go at the Police if someone on their phone caused an accident that someone in their family was involved in. Totally 100% behind you...
The ex fireman “professional driver” was describing himself not the Police Officer! An absolute Git!!!!!
4:55 nearly 3.5 x over legal limit. He’s a very very very very lucky man he didn’t kill himself or many others. He’s sober looking ? Because he’s a regular drinker I’m afraid 😢 I hope this is his wake up call because his car was annihilated 😮
Yeah when she went ‘oh he doesn’t appear drunk’ and it’s like yup that’s what dependency does to you!
Had a Ford Focus, it had a 1 star safety rating. His car is smashed up because how poorly it is built. The transmission and clutch are known to fail and the warranty period was extended to cover this. My double clutch failed and cost $NZ 4,000 to replace. Sold the car before the transmission went. Missed out on the warranty!

And your point is Junior?
He is definitely a professional drinker. The fact that he wasn`t slurring his words or being tipsy proves it. The fireman (allegedly) is such a douche bag. I can`t imagine going through life being that miserable and obnoxious. If he`s married my sympathies to his wife.
Professional driver my a*se.
My brother is a class 2 HGV driver and he would lose work if he had any points on his licence.
Should be an automatic jail sentence fo drink drivers.
Oh yes, I agree. They will need more prisons though!!
Thats never gonna happen, it's no wonder so many people drink and drive. The law in the uk is absolutely pathetic so people will always drink and drive.
You expect anything even close to that when peados and rapists barely get enough time as it is? your reaching bud, our force and everything behind it really isnt what theyd like you to believe.
@@markwake3943as an American it looks strict compared to here! Here the first time getting charged and pleading guilty to drunk driving won’t necessarily get your license revoked it’s usually a fine and taking a class unless you get yourself a good lawyer that can get the charges thrown out or pleaded down.
3 people died in aftermath, when fire caught the vehicles.😢
just yesterday it happened in Romania, 5 died unfortunatelly...1 minibus caught between 2 lorries
"I didn't have the heart to give her another ticket.." Lol.
Wow! I can’t believe people can be so arrogant, especially when they were breaking the law.
Did that bloke on his phone really say "Road Policing Officers only go after people on the roads"?
Drunk drivers are the worst... Terrible humans, no excuse at all.
That ex fireman was so disrespectful and had a shocking attitude.
24:20 thats the character customization or pause music from saints row 3?.... didnt expect to hear that here
Professional driver my arse what a complete and utter prat he wants his arse kickings from here to breakfast time the cop should have arrested him
The red yellow and green vehicle, you'll notice says "air ambulance" on the back. This is a support vehicle for the local air ambulance service, unlike police fire and ordinary ambulances, which are paid for by public money (taxation), i believe that most if not all air ambulances are charities and are supported purely by donations.
I believe the London ones are paid for by the NHS
That stinger deployement was class!
@dannypeck being curious, how was the driver able to continue? I've had one (!) flat tire once and couldn't go on for miles!

That modified red car, we can be sure he didn't tell his insurance company, and would not be covered in any way (apart from third party damages). He's gonna have problems getting insured in the future. 🤣
Possibly, but you can’t be sure. Many people tell the insurance company about every mod, as it can add many thousands to the agreed value.
@@robcookson7559 Quite so, but increasing to agreed value increases the premiums, so not everyone goes down that route. And the insurers will do anything they can to get out of paying.
sad for the mk4
They need to work out a way to test people for tiredness. I'm fairly sure that tiredness is responsible for the majority of road accidents.
I feel like I remember they are developing something for that.
BCA check VINs etc as do all reputable auction companies. how was it missed and allowed to be auctioned?
What a joke, the police must wonder why they do this job. Driver drives like a maniac will not stop when told to, are a danger to other legal road users and the general public and they just walk away. Unbelievable!😊
I was concerned about the cop in the front seat looking over his shoulder, till I remembered that the driver is on the other side
🤣
Professional driver my arse...what a w*nk*r...
Drink driving: It's my long-held opinion that the limit should be zero, The mouthwash argument just doesn't wash.
I don't know about the UK, but here in America, alcohol has been removed from mouthwash and mouth rinses.
Exactly *when* do you think you have zero alcohol in your system? 12 hours after? 24? 36?
Don't get me wrong, I hate drink drivers - but practically a zero level is unenforceable and pointless.
It's rare that people under the limit cause issues.
Good points. @@alan_davis.
This is england, rational thought and using statistics to arrive at conclusions is not for the high and mighty
People do know how dangerous drink driving is.
They just dont care, drink is more important than lives to some people.
Drink driving crimes need much hasher punishment.
As does driving while using a mobile phone, STILL see drivers with phones, making calls AND texting!!
I think the government launched a scheme where you can submit your dashcam footage

They have now made using your phone a harsher penalty, its now 6 points. For you first 2yrs of driving you only get 6 ao would be an instant ban
The drinking thing should be no tolerance at all, no alcohol point stop.
A child that age and height oughtn't to be in the front seat. The safety features are designed for a full grown adult and such would not be a help in fact be a hindrance to the child safety in an emergency or crash. The airbag alone would decapitate the child. The seat belt break his neck. That is if he didn't become s projectile and shoot like a canon ball through the window.

Why was HE doing 80 mph in the first place ?... He has no right to have a go at the woman when he was speeding anyway !
The sheer attitude of the 'professional driver'. What an absolute knob. I drive with my phone in driving mode, it doesn't get touched until I reach my destination. If I forget to put it in driving mode and someone calls, I just don't answer it; even if it's hooked up to my car's hands-free mode.

The "professional drivers" day was inconvenienced and that is why he had an attitude. The PC was very professional. The driver let his emotions dictate his attitude.
At least that’s not creepy… 37:20 😳😳
4:54 "122". I'm surprised he can remain standing.
30:00 mark would be a good place for a carvertical advert.
Crumple zone or not, if that happens they are dead.
with no licence how did she get insurance? The cop doesn't realise she lives in a different village
You dont have to have a license to get insurance
How do you think learner drivers get their insurance?
So the police are allowed to go 80mph on the motorway? No emergency or blues on? That's just wrong he should get points and a fine for that
100%. Better yet, traffic police speedos are calibrated so it would have shown as 85ish on an average car's speedo.
Anyone else does it, they're just about a murderer putting other people's lives at risk. The police does it, they have good reasons and have used their judgment. Bollocks.
have you never seen the backups that police on the motorways cause? it gets ridiculous and dangerous when that happens
Police can’t overtake a car if they’re going slower than the car they’re chasing. That’s just plain logic.
I'm actually surprised that mods on that red car near the start, was what saved him. To the absolute surprise to the cops.
Should be zero alcohol limit. 5 year ban as starting point if caught with alcohol in system and driving.
Should also have driving licence taken off you there and then. No delay waiting for court.
