    Ivanchuck is playing some beautiful chess in this tournament.. wow.

    It's easy to imagine Giri, sitting there asking himself, "Why can't this guy just decide which opening he's playing? As soon as I know that, my world-class prep will kick in and I'll be fine." But Ivanchuk, as previously mentioned, just goes his own way. Lovely game.

    Watching Ivanchuk play chess is like watching Ronaldinho play football. So beautiful.

    I'm so glad Ivanchuk got to play in this tournament. I love his unique style. "Activity above all!" Thanks for covering it.

    Excellent choice to comment on this game. What a player Ivanchuk still is, won a game against Carlsen and beat Giri. Great video from you as always, with so much passion and well explained. This is the best youtube chess channel.

    What I love about these videos is how comprehensive they are. You really show us the thought process of the players. The pacing of the videos are also just right for youtube. Though honestly, I would watch you breakdown a chess match for an hour. Guess I need to get the DVD hahaha. Thank you Mr. King! - A fan from California! Long live Chucky

    Wow Ivanchuk. Again showing he is still one of the best. I hope he makes it to the next round.
    Love your work Daniël. When players comment after the match, it is impossible to follow their analysis. I'm glad I can rely on you! Thank you so much.

    Great game. You don't seem to have kept your "Ivanchuk" playlist up to date. Be great to see a few games from the late 80s 90s when he was nipping at the heels of Kasparov et al. Thanks very much for these game reviews.

    I love to comment on Ivanchuk games as well, started from his famous Bf8 in French Defense against Garry Kasparov and also in this tournament, a couple of awesome games. Great that he was invited here. Thanks for sharing the analysis...

    5:11
    Pawn on e4 that is protected by 4 pieces and potentially the f-pawn: Immense pressure
    Typical backward Benoni d6-pawn on semi-open file and only protected by the queen: No pressure

      @@456death654 I think Aaron is pointing out the irony that black's backwards d6 pawn (which is often weak) is less of a liability than white's e4 pawn in the exact position.

    Great game to cover, always find Chucky's games very interesting. Rerouting the bishop - weird to a novice like me, though I am sure top engines would love that!

    Ivanchuk's moves are literature.
    He doesn't take the e4 pawn too soon, maybe fearing an exchange fest, resulting in a better endgame but with chances for White to hold? Instead Bc8, and other class moves to keep the pressure going.
    We'll be hearing more from this forever young talent Ivanchuk. :)

    So Black didn't take the pawn on e4. OK. But why don't you tell us why he didn't? This is exactly the kind of commentary I would like to hear, instead of getting to know that a pawn can't be taken because of some trivial pin!

    • @eljanrimsa5843
      @eljanrimsa5843 4 года назад

      it can be taken. but it hinders White's game so Black goes for more.

    • @PowerPlayChess
      @PowerPlayChess  4 года назад +2

      Lars, I hope you appreciate that it isn't always possible to go into detail when looking at a long game such as this. You could of course try to work out yourself why Ivanchuk declined to take that pawn :) But, hey, I'm feeling generous this morning, so let me just point out how the line might go: 29...Nxe4 30 Nxe4 Bxe4 31 Bxe4 Rxe4 32 Rxe4 Rxe4 and White has been left with a beautiful blockading knight on d3, and the hateful knight on d2 has disappeared. All the juice has gone from Black's position.
