The thing you've got to realize: Nashville isn't just a country-music town anymore. All the rest of the Big Time Music Industry has moved to a hip-hop/electronic-disco approach, where it's all samples and sequences. Whereas C&W still uses real musicians - so the studios there still have the big rooms and the good mics and the killer engineers. So all sorts of other great live musicians have moved there too. And as this shows, a ton of jazzers have.
Nashville...You never know who's going to show up and sit in at any of the local venues. So many artist live here and want to get out and hear local bands and end up on stage themselves : ) What a town!
@@georgenicholas5210 I saw him on his first tour with Chicago. He was just what they needed at the time, and sang his stuff straight. Later, not so much...
+Dan Perez Tim Akers on B3 & Keys, Gary Lunn on Fretless Bass, Blair Masters on aux keys, Tom Hemby on Guitar, Mark Baldwin on guitar, Mark Douthit on sax, John Hammond on drums, Doug Moffet on sax, Steve Patrick on trumpet, Mike Barry on trumpet, Barry Green on trombone
Bill Champlin never met a song he did not OVER SING! First he butchers Terry Kath tunes and now Michael McDonald's. Please sit this dude down, and tell him "less is more".
Michael and the band sound awesome, but WTF is Bill Champlin doing with the ridiculous over singing?! I used to like the style of his singing and the tone of his voice, but in the last couple decades, he has felt the need to completely abandon any semblance of restraint and sings inappropriate, poorly executed vocal licks in every friggin measure of the song which destroys the inherent melody of the song and is painful to listen to. Thanks for letting me vent...this has been bugging me for awhile. 😁
@ Neal Armstrong, I didn't care for his singing either, sound's kind of weird, with that growl he tried to do, better let Michael sing the whole song! lol.
Tim Akers will be sorely missed... Love you brother...
As a recent years new fan of Tim, I concur.
I just learned from your comment that this incredible musician is no longer with us. So sad.
I’m devastated by his passing. Peace to his family and amazing musical community.
I hope the band keeps on.... all those musicians and vocalists are awesome. My man Mark Baldwin and that kickass DRUMMER man!
I was at this show at 12th & Porter, and it was an experience like no other. Nothing like live music!
We lost greatness. God rest Tim in Heaven.
I love your voice. I love your music. You’re great absolutely great.
That's Bill Champlain, former Chicago keyboardist, singing co-lead.
Nothing comes close to a tight Horn Band and this is one of the best!

RIP Tim Akers. We are going to miss you. :(
Agree. I wonder if we will ever hear from The Smoking Section again?
@@ken6771 They had their first gig without him last weekend. They will keep performing because that is what Tim would have wanted...
@@MStephensMusic do you know if they recorded it?
Hurts
Musicians and singers in total control of their craft. The only reason I am sad I do not live in the USA. I will never see this live
Peter Caulton agreed!!
Oh Lord!!! So happy to have found this. Wow..........just WOW
RIP Tim Akers. Lovely person, world class artist.

Where'd these tears come from already?
Amazing GRACE, and What a Friend we have in Jesus intro! LOVE IT!
I don't hear amazing grace at all? Are you sure that is the chord changes to that?
+jakemf1 actually for quick moment it sounds like he's about to play amazing grace....
That's Bill Champlin on second verse lead vocals.... I'm pretty sure.
Michael you still got it!!!! ROCK ON MAN!!!!!
Wow! Just wow!
Wow. I got nothing, it's just too good.

Love thst bass drumsound! :-D
TOO COOL... Micheal McDonald and Bill Champlin...for rea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael is amazing,!
Bill freakin' Champlin!!!!
Bill Champlin, formerly of Chicago, on verse 2. Nice!
Oversinging as usual, sadly. Champlain was a great addition to Chicago at first, but he later developed that annoying style.
@@oldwest517 I always said Bill Champlain has never sang a line correctly live. He always has to oversing.
I was wondering if anyone was noticing Bill-
@@oldwest517 I never understood the allure of Champlin. He was at the right place at the right time with Chicago, and that's about it IMHO.
@@georgenicholas5210 I saw him on his first tour with Chicago. He was just what they needed at the time, and sang his stuff straight. Later, not so much...
Don't forget the great Bill Champlin!
How about the Organ player on the intro?
wow its amazing energy.....
Outstanding...!!
Michael McDonald and Bill Champlin in the same band? Sick!
Great stuff... I'll be your drummer any time any place... no prob. My kind of stuff...
This is KILLIN. Of course I know that's Bill Champlin singing the second verse... who else is in the band?

Is this entire night available on dvd?
Just... damn...

2nd verse Bill Champlin !!
I hope it doesn’t rain on my parade %&, for our sakes.........
RIDICULOUS !!!!!!!!
Great Vid but who was blowing the mean sax?
Typical ---- horn players stuck back in the corner some where!!!
Mark Douthit. Great player. Check out TASS's "Shake It Off."
Bill Champlin never met a song he did not OVER SING! First he butchers Terry Kath tunes and now Michael McDonald's. Please sit this dude down, and tell him "less is more".
agree.....reading the lyrics from an index card is also a nice touch......
Totally agree!....
Gotta agree. He even did the same to the EWF/Chicago tour back in 2014
I'm glad these cats had a chance to rest- but, the intro was a bit too long for me. Great song and well played... Cheers!
super profi........
YES!
I know Michael McDonald is white, but he don't sound like no white guy...he black baby, he black!

Absolute horrible videography. The only view of the background vocals is from behind?????? Come on!
