i had the honor and privilege of being part of the convoy that took Iz to his final resting place. It was a most memorable day. It was if the island stopped to honor him. I still remember people pulled over on the side of the freeway, signs hung from the over passes, all of Waianae waving to the trucks as we passed...how he touched us all. Its one of those times in your life that you will never forget. The voice from Heaven...he gave us the best gifts...his heart, his music, and his love.
Did you ever get to actually meet him? I would have loved to have met him, or at least see him in concert. I've only found out about him recently, nearly 15 years after he passed away. His music is still spreading around the world.
Rest In Love Uncle John Koko! Skippy and Iz now have their bass player to perform with them for God :)

Makaha Sons came to the Thursday school assembly at Kaiser High School in 1977. All the original players were there, including Iz, Skippy, and Moon. They set up their own equipment and gave a fantastic performance. Miss those days at Kaisers.
Mel was their guitar player and one of the original members. I think Sam Gray played the pakini (washtub bass)

And den kaimuki inter mediate first day school every body was running all over to classes only one on campus waz iz and me under da big tree talking hanabada days den mrs lau from hawaiiana class come running down hey you to iz come with me told ne go shop class haha iz said go surf i go sing so wen go surf mahalo fo read eh.

Mereanataki, I wish I knew what all those beautiful words meant. I believe IZ visited me in 2005. My son and a friend heard him singing, I thought my friend had turned on the cd player and put IZZY in, cause I play him over and over and over again. WE all heard a chorus of OVER THE RAINBOW and we looked in the cd player and it was Dolly parton in the cd player , player was turned off. It happened. I know what it means. I can not watch a video of him without tears .. i love IZ. IZ liveZ
