  • We went behind the scenes to the Atlanta History Center to tell you the story of the “Cyclorama: The Big Picture”. The fully restored cyclorama painting “The Battle of Atlanta”, created 132 years ago, is at the center of this new multi-media experience. The hand-painted work of art stands 49 feet tall, is longer than a football field, and weighs 10,000 pounds. This painting is one of only two cycloramas in the United States (the other being “The Battle of Gettysburg” cyclorama in Pennsylvania), making Atlanta home to one of America’s largest historic treasures.

This video was a wonderful complement to the cyclorama at the Atlanta History Center, which I just saw. This cyclorama is one of those things you have to experience in person, but this video does an excellent job of discussing it and showing small pieces of the artwork.

The Atlanta History Center's new home for the Cyclorama for the Battle of Atlanta is a tour de force of museum curation.
