Creators note*** The video wouldve been another 4 minutes long if i'd added this section***
When I posted the picture of Lakeshore to the Old History facebook page, I shared it across a few groups, and i got hundreds of comments. some people came forth with personal stories, some were guards, some where nurses, some claimed they'd never heard a nice thing said about it, but some reported that the stories of abuse was nothing more than hogwash, However, i did get one personal message from someone who was there during the days when it was known as eastern state, she'd wanted me to mention the village, which at the time was the first of its kind in the nation, and had been on national news. the village provided a place for the residents of lakeshore to feel like they had something to do. The other thing she wanted me to mention was the story of a 9 year old boy, "I want people to know about a little 9 year old boy who was placed on A Ward, which was a women's floor. He lived there until he was 14. The staff gave him his first Christmas with a Santa. He got the biggest trike I ever saw. They had a major Christmas product each year in the chapel/ move theater/ballroom. The patients put on a play. Caroling and then a visit from Santa." She wanted me to iderate that while there are bad stories circulating from lake-shore, it wasn't all bad.

My grandmother was a patient at Central State Mental Hospital in Nashville in the 1970s & that place was horrible. It smelled so bad & was filthy. I hated visiting her there, it was awful. The crying & screaming would echo down the pee stained hallways. It was down right gross. My grandmother didn't get better there, she got worse.

My mother went through this shit and I’m still trying to get her back from the state. In terms of insanity. There methods have proved to be just that .. insane seeing as they haven’t worked for well ever and still don’t work. Thank you for the video.

oh, im sorry to hear that. The methods used in the mental health wards were... inhumane to say the least.

I was a Deputy Sheriff for 12 years and took a slew of people over that time to WS. The intake DOC was batshit crazy, but the staff were always very kind. Guess you gotta be a bit out there to work there lol

The closing of nuthouses in a pet peeve of mine. I point out to people how since they closed most of them, those people are now out on the streets. And you don't have to look far to confirm that. They had it right to keep them separate from the public. YES, insanity and craziness CAN be taught and learned. Anyone who doesn't believe that must be living in a rain forest. We now have leaders of countries, teacher and judges who say things like men can get pregnant. It is taught in universities even. I won't go into everything else that is equally nuts. Back in the day, we knew where to put these nuts and fruits. Just sayin!
I visited lake shore for a few hours (not as a patient lol) about 30 years ago. There were a few patients that approached me talking. There wasn't a single one of them that said anything nearly as crazy as what is taught at universities today. Now they just give pills in place of incarceration and send them to "skool". And we have what have thanks to this. I would say the majority of the problems today are due to mental hospital closures. I think the problem is drastically underestimated.

Your whole take is just disgusting. Poorly thought out. Poorly written. Shows you just completely lack compassion of any kind and you just want people warehoused or worse, just for you to have peace of mind for 5 seconds. I bet you call yourself a Christian too.

@@MoLandavazo well, given the history, and the extent we know abuse happened, and it probably happened worse than what was recorded, Id say its expected. You must have some certainly interesting stories about the odd happenings

@@Oldhistory More than I'd like to admit. Your brief history on the site is great, by the way. There is a surprisingly low amount of information on it... almost seems intentional.

You would either need to contact the county health department, or the state health department.

Lakeshore/EasternState asylum for the mentally ill and disturbed I think was also known as Lyonsview. Yeah sadly our foster children here in Tennessee are still farmed out for slave labor and sold out for sex in 2022. One of my grandmas was put through torture at Lakeshore frontal lobotomy and shock therapy. She was not pschizo later found out she a big brain cyst but the doctors did never consider that was the cause of her mental state of mind and that perhaps an operation would have helped her. Sad part really though she lived with her brother and his wife years after getting out of the asylum and they continued to toture her uptil she died in 1984.

Wow, thank you for sharing that with us.
Unfortunately back then mental illness was highly misdiagnosed, still is today. The farther back in history you go, the more misdiagnosed people you read about.
