Walking is the king of all exercises. It's the ultimate full-body exercise that trains your entire legs, your shoulders, the back, the core is trained in all its functions; it trains strength and strength endurance, full-body coordination, stability, proprioception; it's good for cardio. And it's super easily scalable too - hiking, rucking, carries, sprinting etc.

Imagine that I have it in the city too... :D I'm a "room flower" (I exercise almost every day, at home, with various fitness tools and body weight), I work at home, I go for walks mostly in the evening, I go to nature almost entirely at all (at the same time, I only have a 10-minute walk, I have to fix it)... And when I found myself in the city center the other day, saw a lot of colors, flowers, etc., I noticed for a moment as if the video processor in my brain was "cutting"... . At the same time, I have excellent nutrition. Lesson: I will go for a lot of walks during the day, not only after dark, and especially in the forest, etc...

Comparing walking with strength training, is just nonsense. They are poor replacements for each other, and you can easily do both without sacrificing the benefit of the other

Uphill hiking. Not many understand how you can build real functional strength outside the gym exercises and looks like you are one of them. You should do both

@@Vahvafitness You can call it strength how much you want, what you are talking about is still endurance.

@@zombi3lif3 Endurance is a form of strength and strength is a spectrum. Apparently doing step ups in the gym is strength training but doing similar movement in uneven terrain in nature that truly challenges the muscles of your ankles, legs and hips far better (thus developing strength) is not the same thing (it's actually a lot better)

@@Vahvafitness You understand why weightlifter, sprinters, throwers, strongmen, powerlifter and other strength athletes do squats and deadlifts, rather then going on walks, right?
It doesn't surprise you that no high performances in those sports, is made by people walking as only activity, right?
Even endurance athletes do resistance training, to maximize performance. Yet, here you are telling them all, they should just go on hikes
And no, walking isn't a replacement for full range of motion resistance training. It lack stability needed for full force production. It lack range of motion, for mobility. And it lack precise and individualized loading for building strength and power., according to anyones personal level. But it is a good addition, to resistance training for more all round health and fitness.

@@zombi3lif3 You really don't get it do you. I have a channel full of squats, strength exercises and mobility work exploring all ranges of motion and all physical attributes of the body. Nobody is saying you shouldn't do strength training, you are creating a strawman argument because you cannot fathom the immense benefits uphill hiking can produce and you cannot see strength outside the limited concepts of gym training.
The reality is that the average person will experience greater benefits to his health and even athleticism going on uphill hikes than by doing just traditional one-dimensional lifts in the gym (ideally they should do both). And even athletes will benefit from strenuous hikes, I personally do and I have reached a quite high level when it comes to physical development. You are not going to believe it until you actually hike a steep mountain and experience how much it demands of your body.

When I run on pavement I alternate between long stride and short stride. It seem to hit both front and back of the legs this way.
