Hey, David! I’m from the USA, and was wondering what TV is like there in the UK. Here in the US, we get our local networks and mainly old shows on our TV antenna. Here we can’t get our local networks on satellite without paying for DirecTV or Dish Network. Do you actually pay a fee every month to watch free broadcast?

    • @DavidMarfe
      @DavidMarfe  2 года назад

Hello I know all about direct TV formally living in America during the Bush, Clinton and Bush years in the UK there are two major satellite providers Sky and Freesat Sky is what Freesat use to be it was a Free satellite service back then it was analog but couple of years the payed services launched. Freesat was a service launched in 2008 that uses the same alignment as Sky TV but without encryption so all the channels are open to receive for free but in the UK you need a tv licence to watch TV but you need both to watch sky so there is no such thing as free TV in the UK also the problem with Freesat is they keep turning off apps on the boxes so you keep needing to upgrade to the next box. I much prefer paying sky and getting my services guaranteed by them.

Plus here in the uk we have to pay for a tv license to watch or record anything live 😏

We don’t really get local networks anymore in the UK as the regional networks were all combined into one network (ITV) back in the early 2000’s except for variations for the various nations in the UK (ie: STV for Scotland, S4C in Wales etc)
The only exceptions are the regional news programs of which are broadcast at various times of the day.
Regarding your question, all Free to air channels are available via Antenna or Satellite free of charge via Freeview or Freesat.
Then you have your Pay TV from Sky (now owned by Viacom) on satellite and Virgin Media on Cable of which mainly consists of American TV shows and networks like discovery, paramount.
Either way, in the UK you are required to buy a TV licence to legally watch TV at a cost of about £159 per year of which is used to fund the state broadcaster, the BBC

Thanks your politicians for having everything behind paywall. Also American networks are dumb because instead of doing national channels the so called "local" channels are independent companies that affiliate with major 5

Also problem with payTV services like Sky is you cannot tune in their boxes to other channels available on the same satellite or add 19.2E to get e.g Sky Germany channels

I’m using a old Samsung S7800 I got them throughout the house in 2011 I bought 6 of them to give me HD channels throughout the house and garage as well I haven’t bothered by 4K Freesat box as when I bought my Samsung box I was promised BBC iPlayer and itv player coming soon and 4od and 5 demand but only itv player launched and then 2016 iPlayer left and itv player a couple years later. So I didn’t see the point of buying into the Freesat G2 hardware version because I didn’t even have theses services for 10 years which is what I expect to receive minimum.
and Freesat said one box is all your ever need no subscription needed my 2008 Sky box still has on demand I know I’m paying for a card but Freesat boxes aren’t cheap. So unless I am given one to test I won’t spend anymore of my hard owned cash on another box sorry if I went on a rant

    John 3.16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
