I'm more partial to playing songs fingerstyle but most of gojira's stuff is so much more fun with a pick. I'd say fingerstyle is easier than a pick though.
That's not difficult, I've seen Gojira live, so I know that he plays with a pick, but it wouldn't have surprised me if Gojira's bass player came out without a pick. I learned how to play it fingerstyle and it's a very easy song.
I think people tend to forget this is a real live concert. Not a home-studio vocal cover where you can EQ and edit everything as you want. Honestly, I liked her screams - unusual for some Gojira but enjoyable! And these guys can definitely play.
That's also the role of the sound guy to EQ in concerts. People are complaining about the singing technique she uses which is very bad for her + she would get far better sound with diaphragm and proper growl. Other than that that's pretty nice
to all the the people commenting on the vox: give that girl some time, that‘s just how an underdeveloped false chord scream/growl sounds like. she‘ll be fine if she just keeps practicing and it‘s good that shes starting early with performing in front of people. however the pitched yells sounded kinda painfull tbh but im sure she’ll get it down. also it takes a looooot of time to develop serious vocal damage.
i honestly thought it sounded pretty good considering everything - harsh vocals sound a lot less flattering with no compression, especially when this loud in the "mix"
My thoughts exactly. They mostly look like teenagers, so she likely hasn't been doing this style of vocals for too long. With that in mind, she honestly sounds pretty solid. Better than I could do, that's for sure.
It doesn't take a long time to seriously damage your vocal cords though. That's like saying it takes a long time for your lungs to get fucked up from smoking, but you're still smoking either way. They're are people who get lung, mouth or some other type of cancer early on in they're lives, even though they haven't been using tobacco that long. To keep practicing bad techniques means she'll not only mess up her vocal cords, but never improve as a vocalist.
@@HousewifeO in this case covering one song/practicing from time to time seems like the equivalent to smoking a cig once every weekend when you’re drunk. well long is subjective either way. also her technique is rather underdeveloped than bad. i‘m sure she‘ll improve as she practices and increases her strength in the muscles needed for screaming.
@@vianova.berlin How is she going to improve when then stuff she is practicing isn't what makes you improve? You can practice bad techniques/habits. Just like how you can practice really good techniques/habits. I don't want her to never improve or something (which I've made very obvious by actually giving them constructive criticism), but I won't keep my mouth shut when someone is digging themselves into a hole and only going further and further down into it. For her to truly develop good techniques, she needs to be VERY open to learning from people who have way more knowledge/experience than her. I started learning how growl back in 2018 and sounded just like her at one point. I wish I had someone to tell me that what I was practicing was wrong and dangerous. I fucked up my voice MULTIPLE times. I couldn't consistently practice throughout a week, because of how damaged my voice was. Which sucked, cause I don't just growl, I'm a singer as well. So, no voice to sing with ment my confidence in myself and abilities was hugely diminished. But after a lot of learning and training I got really good. She can do the same, but not if people continue to lie to her and tell her she's already really amazing.
I wouldn't really say she's on the right track, honestly; she's using her throat, not her diaphragm. Her technique is completely improper and is going to lead to severe damage to her vocal chords.
Okay I genuinely didn't expect the sound quality to be that good. Like, the fact that the bass is audible at all is a win. Also, people keep commenting on her vocal technique but dude, for how little time she's likely been doing it, she sounds pretty good. Gojira's hard as shit vocally, she just needs more time to practice into healthier techniques for long term.
The vocals are fantastic, fry screams just sound really throaty when you arent really good at them, thats what my scream sounds like. For her to have that good of a tone while being young and female is really impressive. Give it time and practice and she'll sound like Tatiana Shmailyuk
How does her scream sound really throaty? A good throaty scream comes from a lot of passion, training and constant practice to keep up your techniques. She couldn't even get through a single verse without losing her breath and her voice cracking. If you also sound like her then you need more practice yourself, or you will fuck up your voice permanently. Also, what does being "young and female" have to do with it? There are plenty of female metal vocalist who have way better techniques than a lot of men and sound way more mature regardless of their age and sex. Tatiana didn't pave her way into being a respected vocalist for no reason other than being a chick. She has amazing techniques (Which everyone should learn before they start screaming and risk damaging themselves), she's a naturally gifted singer, and she's trained hard to have such good breath control, that her stage presence raises eyebrows. (I've seen them live, not once did she need to take a breather between songs, it was badass) meanwhile this singer can't even last half of these verses without her voice fading.. She needs better breath support.. Tatiana is the definition of a really good vocalist. Period. Not only is this band amateur at best (considering the drummer can't even keep time, which should be the first fundamental you get down before attempting complex and vigorous metal like Mario in Gojira), but, to defend such negligence from new singers like this girl, means you're not only gaslighting her, but gassing her up only to make her feel good, in the process making yourself feel better about the terrible growl you produce. You're only setting her up for disappointment and failure.
If they showed me a picture of this and told me they are playing Flying Whales by Gojira, I wouldnt believe it for one second, but here we are, you guys kick ass

She needs to stop practicing bad techniques, or she'll ruin her vocal cords and never improve. The drummer needs to stop going out of his way to not actually play the song, cause it's too hard (for example, he stops playing bass drum when he does a roll at 6:45, or he's off time, OR he's playing something that isn't even in the song). They all need to work on their timing overall as a band, because this was sloppy. Even if they had good stage presence, which they don't, it wouldn't matter unless the music's tight.
