Nice work Matt as usual. BTW. It took me 5mins to pinpoint this location down to the street and the double grid!! From there, watching the video, I've worked out the two properties involved. Be careful.
Good sleuth work then. Yeah I hear ya!
Yea likewise. As soon as the video started after his intro lol. Within the 1st 5 seconds 😜 I didn’t know one of the entrances is there though.
Yeah, location is well known around Bristol. Even Lauren Hill knows where it is.
I can’t believe your like literally on my door step haha.
I knew they existed, just wasn’t sure where the actual entrance is, or where ONE of the entrances are.
From the moment after you done your intro I recognised the exact location lol.
I’ll keep it quite though.
Fair play Matt 🤙🏻
What a find! Need more of these underground Victorian road discoveries. Love them! 🙌🏼
This is similar to the vaults in Edinburgh, although they go back to the plague... still one of the most haunted places in the UK
Our Eldest Daughter lives in Bristol, She went to Uni and stayed, But my Favourite place of all in Bristol is Christmas Steps.... I can stand and Imagine all the history behind it all. Just beautiful.
I would be nervous about even releasing that find! Who knows the people or organization that doesn't want u to know about that. Man becareful of who might turn up! Awesome video!
ll whoever they are they cleared it out and could never keep it there after unknown people like us knew about it. We just gave them breathing space to clean stuff up.
@@TheSecretVault I wonder what was behind the "alarmed" folding gate door.
There is more down there for sure.
Did they take the table saw out too? Lol
@@mattd5757 i think thats on the other side of the road from the packhorse, theres a few tunnel workshops in that industrial estate there so i reckon its that carpark
@@abdaloser that would make sense, pretty wild stuff. We have some interesting places here in the states, but Nothing like what you all have over there!
From one that was and isn't being used to one that is being used with nice little trees growing in it. Isn't Bristol just full of agricultural secrets nestling amongst the brickwork. Its not where you'd think to look. But thats the whole thought behind it LOL
Green capital of England baby ;D
Awe busy little farmers getting on with Britain's little agricultural projects how sweet got to keep the traditions going!😁🤣🤣✌
Spooky stuff. You had the right idea to get out of there.
Great video!
Thanks Matthew!
👍👍👍👊😎
Wow i remember that street! We went there must be over 20 years ago. I believe it was an official visit with a caving group and one of the City Engineers. I believe access to those lock-ups is via the industrial estate nearby.
Nice video!
never enter a growroom even if empty, they boobytrap the rooms and the wiring is very dangerous,
I wonder where the other openings to that place could be found, after it was cleared out I would want too see if I could find out where and explorer it. Thanks for sharing Matt, it was great.
Tip of the iceberg right there, just imagine what else is hiding underneath your feet, torture Chambers, kidnapped people, aliens....Bristol seems like the place to be.
EXACTLY.
And not just Bristol by any means!
Yes Bristol council in the 50 and 60s were either lazy or no future vision as loads of these Victorian streets were seen as eyesores and just built over……
@@phatman3573 pretty sure they were built over well before the 50s and 60s
@@Loagun from what I’ve seen in the Bristol archives there were many around untill broadmead was developed….it was surrounded by slums that were still about in the 59s and 60s I’m only 53 but I can still remember seeing very old houses and shops that were boarded up from 1800s,stokes Croft and St. Paul’s had a few and a few other areas….
Mind is officially BLOWN! 🤯 Makes you wonder how many even older world cities are underneath our feet!! Bristol is my home City I was born in and no one had a clue it was built directly on top of an old world street system!! Great find!! 👍
It’s actually very common for cities to build over older sections of city for various reasons but the older the city the more common it is
Entrance seems to be on Lawrence Hill, Bristol. Just near "Pakistan Bristol Association" :)
I'd say thats the workshop of "Shut Up and Ride" or "Vandem Longboard Shop"
You’re spot on with the location
Love this vid. Would love to go there and clear out all the junk, salvage some history. Excellent explore, well found.
The location is all over the web now. Shame, it will probably get trashed now. Fantastic exploration Matt. Love your work!
Be careful going into places like this in cities because some of these places that have been blocked off were blocked off at the end of WW2 because they have live bombs in them. There are for example over 2000 WW2 bombs, that the positions of are known, under London alone. (There will of course be others, the positions of which are unknown). Where bombs fell through a building into basements, without exploding, they often simply blocked off the entrance to those cellers & left the bombs where they were because there was no safe way to move them & there was a shortage of qualified people to deal with them. Over time the chemicals in some of these bombs deteriorate & become very volatile indeed. So do be very carefull.
Legend as always with your finds, Thank you sir!!!👍
The reflective green squares are survey targets which suggests that someone has been down there and surveyed it before you got there.
I'd guess the BBC would have had to get it surveyed before health and safety would allow staff and cameras down there.
That's one awesome video. Think ide would of been shitting myself with worry that someone might of been around .Great video
I remember talking to you about this one, it's amazing what we travel over without a care in the world. Thanks for sharing Matt
Where did that volume of crap come from? Piles and piles of rubbish somehow got underground in one of the most unknown places on earth.
This hidden “street” must pre date 1885 because looking back at historic maps on the NLS the street with man hole entrance is still there on the 1885-1913 side by side maps so this area must be very old! I’d like to know what date the road was covered over. Also those cellars look like the arches.
Very interesting
covered in 1879
@@0815germany something to do with the railway station line doubling in 1874?
@@c47force15 duno mate, I'm not into railway history tbh 🤷🏻♂️
They're barrel vaults, using the compressive strength of bricks to prevent gravity bringing them down. Pretty much all cellars and tunnels were constructed that way until the 1900s. Now we use reinforced concrete slabs, but the barrel vaults are much prettier architecture.
Bristol know your place 1840s map appears to show level crossing, or humpback bridge. Houses on north side of present approach arches missing on 1855 map so can assume gradient eased by the new approach ramp 1847-1855 period. Then the arches sub let to businesses.
this location is pretty well-known in Bristol. The Evening Post keep reposting the story on it
Is there gypsy site behind the PH do you know? Cos that grow is on the opposite side to the arches. Obviously I’m trying to figure out who’s bit that falls in. 🧐🤣

My jaw dropped when you pushed the hole through and what you found in there!
What a find 😳

Fascinating seeing the original window frames still in situ - bit like walking down Diagon Alley 🤣🤣
Well done for swift escape before meeting anyone. Great video 👍👍
Yeah with a room full of Hufflepuff wizard's!😁🤣🤣✌
Lawrence Hill under the Packhorse pub
Is that where it is?
That is a crazy explore mate thanks for this
Great explore Matt thanks for sharing with us. 👌
That was amazing! Was that large metal door a lift? I wonder how they got everything down there?!
? dunno.
Another scintillating explore, thanks! Yours are the craziest, wackiest explores, with the exception perhaps of RUclipsr shiey or whatever he's called
Me and my work mate found a place like this in london in the late 90s we where working on a shop and had to clear a cellar the cellar was cleared out and there was a doorway into an underground passageway wich had other doors into other peoples cellars there was a channel for drainage in the middle i grabbed a torch and walked bout 5 mins still didnt get to the end of it was fun tho .
is it still there to explore. email me me@thematthewwilliams.com
So Im curious -- is this a single location above the Victorian street that has access? Or 2 different locations that lead to the below street? Great history down there. Id love to sort thru the trash to find things.
There's street access (that Matt used) then across the road there's basement access from several different properties above. Looks like some have 'bricked off' access and other put up more/less secure methods of removing access.
The vicotrian street is underground. The old way in has been breezeblocked up so the only way in from outside is down the manhole or through the workshop.
@@TheSecretVault at 16.02 you didn't hide your location fast enough. Location is up for 1/10th of a second. Your secret might escape you? Good luck.

I love your videos dude funny 😂😂
I'm always impressed how resourceful people are!! Glad to see you didn't post straight away people need there green
Drove past this place around 11am today the police were just entering presumably to remove the crops
Omg 😳 what a find Matthew! I’ve heard about this underground place years ago, but never knew where there were, Thank you for taking us along for the adventure.. What you thought was a big pram, I think it was a old wheelchair…
A dangerous find, they could of seen you. Amazing content yet again, thanks 👍
Unlikely with more light inside the grow than in the tunnel and the small hole Matt looked through.
Must have been some one involved in big corporations to be able to get in there and remove everything like that 😎👍
Brilliant video Matt so good I watched it again what a bloody find Matt wow 👍💖 well done really enjoyed this, I know people that wud pay good money to see/find that place well done brilliant content 👍💖 great live tonight too, and so sorry to hear about Andy's& Thomas so sad another taken to young, I too lost a friend 52yrs young this week ,🥺 hearing of so many people of late passing away very sad my thoughts are with them both 💖🤘👍

glad you got in and out undetected could have been dangerous if they caught you in there anyway a very interesting place and great explore 👍💯
Even if those grow lights were 600w each, there was over 4.2kw running. That would of cost a fortune, they had to be stealing the electricity, and no wonder they burnt out that socket, lol.
You cannot plug a light Straight into wall you need a ballast for each light , I done it before I had 12 600 hps in a big bedroom

Takes about 10 seconds on Google to find this location 😂😂😂😂
What a bunch of old crap! Interesting place but not earth shakking.
Never knew these existed until a few years back i was helping a friend build his shop shelves as he was opening a new business. In his cellar / store room right at the back there was a big old crsty door. i asked him what was behind it and he didn't know. we eventually ripped it open and it was one of these streets which led down the road and there were doors to all the other cellars for the other stops as well. I am down in Kent and it was great exploring down there.
is it still there to explore. email me me@thematthewwilliams.com
@TheSecretVault tell us where this is lol
That was Smashing love to see whats below our feet 😀👍
Holy shit, the one grow room was mad enough, which must've lead to someones house or business, but one on the other side too! Serious setup there
Just twigged where this is and where the shutter door inside the first place led to. Makes a lot more sense now. Crazily unsecured considering!
Yeah the big shutter door in the first room looks to be an outside door on that industrial estate, and the active one must be one of the others across the road?
I love the welsh accent my great grannys husband was a welsh man.
wow
My friend can you help me get in please I make videos myself and this is literally right up.. OR down my street
As you come off the Barton Hill roundabout turning left towards Lawrence Hill station on the right. is a pub, and the BBC was invited into the pub and down into the cellar where if my memory serves me well there is an entrance to that underground street If you turn into the road that leads to Lidl's but then turn at the bottom of the slope you will see a industrial site and you can see how low you are from the road up top, think how many more hidden treasures are there to be found, I know my late father who was in the Home Guard during WW2 showed me and my late brother many interesting holes or tunnels off Midland road and even Castle Park.
Brilliant explore mate proper look around 👌..
Brave posting this up dude, you might off pissed some serious ganster types.
Love that you gave them time to dispose of whatever needed disposing, need more people like you, weed never hurt anyone, that thing at the end of the tunnel you didnt know what it was, looked like a memory foam mattress topper, i got one on my bed proper comfy 🤷♂️😂
Weed isn’t necessarily bad but whoever is growing that amount of it and in that type of location is probably the type of criminal that would break your legs when it comes to money.
@@poochie81 exactly its not the weed hurting people
@@bobbobbington6498 I really wish that was the case lol.
@@poochie81 its like guns bro guns dont kill people, people kill people the gun is just a tool that people use
@@bobbobbington6498 well after 23 years of smoking bud and having edibles for the last few of years I’ve developed a bit of sensitivity to it, whenever I have any now I get chronic sinusitis and all the mucus goes to my chest and I can’t breathe very well and I feel like I’m dying.
I agree that weed is probably one of the least harmful drugs there is but to say it’s never harmed anyone is just untrue, also some people that smoke it heavily for decades have developed COPD which is very serious.
So nothing like guns really lol.
Thankyou for this brilliant video. Very interesting.
good video matt, any chance you can get a video of underground Hull.
Sure there are similar street but much bigger in Manchester
The underground market under brown street 👍😉
Interesting place, we just explored and filmed some similar tunnels under Brest for our channel.
Nice find. Enjoyed that explore. Shame it all full of junk and not used. Well it seems some areas were used for growing shit....
Matt it was lucky you didn't get caught by um and you whear lucky not of come across some kind of booby trap dude. I've seen it on TV a few different times and one of them had wires from the wall socket rigged up to a metal fenceing behind the windows and behind the front door of the house and who knows what else. Glad you got out of their ok Matt but I bet this fucked up somebody's whole grow and thay are not law abiding citizens who knows what else they're up to. I would have been a bit worried about putting this video out but fuck it I guess.
Most people doing grows in this day in age are just ordinary people trying to survive. They probably would have shit themselves more if they had been there.

Great explore Matt. Thanks for sharing. …….
What a trip that would be for the guys to show up to tend to their grow to find a mysterious hole blasted through the wall.
It took me 2 minutes to find the exact manhole cover on Google maps :)
That's a catering trade food date sticker on the plug in the burnt out socket, the hidden columbo in me is saying the grow room was set up by a chef
Looks more like a PAT testing sticker to me.
@@beerbuildings it could be, I thought it might have been a Friday food date label. It may well be a pat test sticker though, nothing says stupid quite like putting something identifiable on a grow! Good place for it though.

Im not worried about you finding it, well done... I like spart eyes people. Just take care down there... I just didnt want to promote where it was.
I actually know where this is. My parents went down there many years ago.
Holy shit!..What a cracking video.Nice one Matt!...xx
What an interesting place! There's quite a few old items in that first part, it looks like some kind of old barn or stable, think that bench up against the wall is an old saddle stand and the metal tub is a trough, even the crisp packets are old lol
Brilliant video to be able to see below the streets like this as it backs up a lot of what I have been researching over the last 4 year...👍👍👍👍

Brilliant video Matt! 😁
Totally fascinating guys, thanks for sharing it.
Hah very cool find.
Well done i could hear how excited you were amazing to watch pal x
The amount of effort, money, time and labour that's gone into building that grow room isn't just done from a few illegal dodgy growers, that's a proper militant operation. The authorities must have known about it and it was allowed to go on. How did all that stuff get down there, you can't get metal sheeting that vast and unnoticed through a man hole cover lol, so there must be a secret entrance into there of which they have had permission to use. That's definitely protected by the authorities, no simple grower is going to go to those lengths with running water, electricity etc. Makes no sense. Too much money spent for them to be fly by night growers plus there's cameras every and no one saw them entering with huge metal sheets
What you're seeing here is basically railway arches over which a road has been built. The idea that this stuff is "underground" is slightly dubious. It is, and buildings have been put up above them, but if they'd been able to open that concertina door they'd have been in a car park outside a set of light industrial units. Everything would have come in from that end.
so there is ia grow under Bristol. Wow!!
Couple of units there with the kind of hippy owners that might own sound equipment and smoke the herb. Won't post names, but from the business names you can take a good guess at which units might be the ones lol.
I'd guess there are three businesses on the go at that location. Production of wood based items, growing and arranging squat parties, or whatever people call them these days.
Gotta make a buck with everything going up. I just wish they'd let me know when the sound equipment is up and good to go, and when they're harvesting and slinging the trees though lol.
If that's the street I'm thinking off then it's only a short distance from a large bus garage.
The growers r lucky u found that cz if me. And the Boyz found it we'd be richer now
its in the newspapers i just rerad it
I bet that first lil grower did t. Even know about the bigger grower behind him hahha
Local sound systems storage and side earner? Definitely spoilt someone's quarterly income!!!!
