  • Lave watched "Embrace Of The Serpent" and now he's telling you what he thought about it. Colombian director Ciro Guerra takes us on a literal and spiritual journey through the Amazon as two scientists search for a plant with healing properties over two different time periods. But is it any good?

Masterpiece. On a par with Aguirre Wrath of God.

Glad your back! Sounds interesting. Reminds me of the Mosquito Coast and Medicine Man. Is it me...or have you lost weight?

Can’t believe I’ve never seen those two films. They’ve been on my watch list for years. I mean we’re talking Peter Weir and John McTierman directing and I’ve never seen em. This looks good as well.

Mosquito coast (1986) with Harrison Ford. Not to be confused with the TV series

Oh, awesome. I watched this during quarantine and really enjoyed it. Totally agree about that 2001 comparison in that particular scene.

Good Homologous, but certainly it is a clear reference to "spiritual breakout" In the Amazonian rituals as the "Yopo"(the One directly related in the movie)or the " Ayahuasca "one, this stage is reached when the mind is "broken" To the real soul of the being. The imagery is likely depicted in the movie, normally a feeling of completeness, then fear, at the middle Caledoscopy and spatial patterns, finishing with sharp and contrasted fluids or "things". I stated this as indigenous and practitioner of Ayahuasca rituals.

I see a lot of Spanish language movies in your collection and in your reviews as well. You should try out Argentinian movies. There's one called Medianeras. Another one is called Fermin, really good one. These do not have as mesmerizing cinematography as Monos or Embrace of the Serpent, but you should check them out. Keep up the good reviews

Maybe they shot it in colour and then took the colour out

they purposely shot it black and white, partly, so that the color and beauty of the rainforest would not distract and take the viewer from the story.
