Muzamil, great job of pulling in people like Zia sb into your conversations. I enjoyed his excitable, slightly nervous demeanour where he had so much to say about our education system, teachers, earning capacity and earning capability of our students and younger lot - seemed like he had volumes to say about each of the topics he covered. I also believe that the future of our country I would have loved to hear him (or anyone else who is linked with education) say a few things about how can we inspire our younger lot with learning (just for the love of learning) - my point being, why have we associated education (or learning) only with earning. I can understand (and relate to the fact) that it is important to learn a skill and be able to earn a living from it.. or rather put food on the table.. but learning only for a sake of earning is like a prison sentence where you end up compromising (limiting) your learning aspirations and capabilities to just putting food on the table.. for ever. What are we doing at an elementary level in schools (private or public) where 90% of the students are demotivated and usually drop out, especially where the parents are also not "schooled".

Let me propose a decentralized system: 1) remotely deliver all lectures and impose entry fee (which can be subsidized). 2) make attendance optional, or mandate with video recording of the student to gauge interest. 3) allow proctored at-home examinations or create decoupled centers like the Microsoft certification ones by Pearson. 4) assign random invigilators with strict checks. Keep all video records of both invigilator and examinee. 5) all exams have a fee (which can be subsidized). The fee is distributed between the invigilator, center and exam creator. 6) record viva examinations and allow students to send their exam video links to potential recruiters for a fee. 7) take feedback about the exam.

I have some possible solution to high dropout ratio (and also for Universities that are reluctant to teach good subjects because parents/students are worried about passing exams)........... I think good subject should be taught where attendance is encourages (or maybe compulsory). After that, the students should have an option to do certification (exam) or just get certificate of attendance (if they had 85% attendance). Or their could be small advantage of 10 marks added for attending the course............ This way, those with aptitude will excel and those who are not into such subjects will not worry about failure and will walk out with one paper (certificate of attendance as non-accredated course which some employers value because they care about the skill, not accredited certificate).
