It really is! Pine just looks so yellowy and knotty. I've refurnished a few wood staining projects that I felt we could tackle this giant ceiling with some success, ha!
it was awful, right?! At that time luna was putting all the weight onto my side because he was prepping the drill or changing something, I was not prepared 😓
oooo yesss! we do have the same floors. Our floors have a bit of gray and brown mixed in so I thought this stain combo ceiling would match nicely with them.
@@hauzandco love it! Did you paint your trim and wall the same color? I’m conflicted because I painted my walls BM Simply White but idk what color to do my doors and door trim. Did you paint everything one color?
Nice job. Here is something to consider some time later if you get tired of the appearance. Our house has a large room with T & G knotty pine ceiling and engineered wood beams supporting them - original to when the house was built in 1977. The wood was fairly low-grade with lots of knots, some small gaps between the T & G and some holes in the wood - all covered in dark brown stain but not sealed nor varnished. Because of construction repairs, the room was empty for - so we decided to go ahead and paint the ceiling a bright white - something I wouldn’t do over quality hardwood but this was low grade pine looking shabby. It took 10 full days! Prime coat oil Zinnzer Cover Staine which accepts latex top coat. Lots of silconized DAP Flex caulk (42) tubes doing all grooves etc. used 20 min wallboard mud to patch holes cheaply. Top coat is two coats Sherwinn -W Infinity Satin white from Lowe’s. Huge job needed patience. Details are for anyone considering similar job. Results are FANTASTIC!
thank you!! It really looks custom, right?! hehe I wish I could lend my skills, the ceiling was definitely breaking my neck. I admire people who do this as a main career, it takes a lot of skill and patience.
Sorry for the delay! Go to home depot and ask the paint clerk for Behr Tamarind TIS-005 (water-based), it's a custom color that they have to mix for you. On another note, If you go near the stain aisle by Behr stains, you'll find their pamphelet of all the colors they offer. They have over 500+ stain colors that you can choose from. It doesn't cost more, it's just colors that aren't the main standard colors that people normally just pick-up and go. Hope that helps!
Would it be strange to just use the boards natural? Looking at doing a similar thing but just natural pine boards or is that a mistake?! Hugest thanks!
you could! For me personally, I've never really liked the knotty look of pine and it tends to age more yellow/orange overtime. So it's really up to you and your preferences maybe you like that 😊
Yes, indeed I used a a matte clear polyethurane from Behr. And normally all Home depots carry the clear tint base to make customs color stains (btw they have Behr custom stain pamphlets near their stains aisles in case you didn't know}. Ask for Behr Tamarind TIS-005 {waterbase} and they will make it for you. The cost is the same as any of their stains, it's just not a traditional, popular color {yet, hehe}.
Hi there.todaybi try from 3hours to decide for a colour of 160sqm roof top pine.our colours are similar but i didnt use grey.can u please sent me a link of your colours?
Hey, hey! Here's a link for reference: liketk.it/4d6XY. The Stains are Behr Water-based Prestain + Behr Tamarind TIS-005 + Varathane Weathered + Behr Clear Coat. All stains are linked except Behr Tamarind TIS-005, it's a custom water based color you will ask for at the homedepot paint clerk desk. The cost is the same, it's just not a regular color ppl ask for. They have a stain brochure near their Stains in case you need to see all the color options they have. Hope this helps :)
Good video . I think it looks awesome and rich . And even better you were able to achieve that using pine . Sadly nowadays someone would think come in and paint boring white . The travesty of so many beautiful homes with character and expensive wood simply painted white to go along with the sterile hospital setting look of everything has to be white . Pushing the everything must be clean or where are all gonna catch something agenda being propelled upon the gullible masses
thank youuuu! I love how it turned out. It was quite bit of work, but glad I stuck with trying out different stains. I totally get why people sometimes want to paint it over mostly due to their budget parameters and they want something that doesn't look so yellow or orange, but the extra work is always worth it. Sandblasting is always a better alternative, but not sure how much that would run to do in a home, but something for everyone to consider so they can re-stain ceilings vs. paint. But some paint can look really good, like those cottage core homes.
