Have made many double layer bags, but have been thinking for a while, a single layer bag would be great - but how to do it?

I would definitely use a wider seam, though. If it frays, 1/4" is going to pull apart. I would also sew the 1/2" seam and sew it again just outside the first seam for double strength. I do like the idea of integral handles, though, because the handles can pull off if the groceries are heavy and that hurts the toes!
This is a very good tutorial. For the bottom, I would have just done a French seam. (Turn the bag back inside out, and seam inside the outside seam) Adding buttonholes (one shorter than the other; say 1" and 1/2") for bag racks might be a good idea. Label the shorter buttonhole with an F to show the front, (there's usually a ball-shape to go over for the back buttonhole) stack all the bags on the bag rack, then the clerk can just grab the front buttonhole and put it up, so the bag is hanging open for filling.

fabulous idea! I do not have a machine for borders, but I will do it on my homemade machine. Thank you for this wonderful option so as not to damage our planet with plastic bags. I will make many bags !!!!
Do the edges with zig zag to neaten them and so they won't fray.

If you cut with the top of the handles on the fold and don’t cut them apart it will make the strap much stronger and you don’t lose any strap length.
Thank you for demonstrating this so clearly, especially the step where the handles are joined and the back wraps around the front handle.

Very clear instructions.... nice tutorial.... But I have a suggestion... You don't have to cut the bottom part...... A cut and then a seam in bottom of the bag makes the bag weak when heavy things are added in bag..... I try to keep the bag in one piece so only side seams are needed... No bottom seam gives bag more stability

Me encantó este estilo de bolsa es sencilla y fácil de hacer. Yo hice varias con el estilo de las hazas y logré hacerlas xq el tutorial lo hicieron paso a paso a pesar que esas son más complicadas pero este tutorial la bolsa es sencilla pero las o los que no somos expertos en modisteria necesitamos el paso a paso o por lo menos más despacio xa ver bien los pasos. I think when it came time to hem the bottom, you could have just turned the bag inside out, but I like your idea, it gives the bottom more support when carrying heavy items.

Es una copia d una bolsa plástica. Sólo observa una y t darás cuenta d dónde tienes q coser. Pero yo no le cortaría abajo. Lo demás está todo bien.

Look easy to simplest actually the one I do is probably similar but I use a flat seam which is more solid and yeah more presentable too
