For extra strength, I would add an additional stitching line on the bottom edge 1/16 of an inch from the original. Then I would press that seam open before you stitch the bag together and stitch 1/4 inch from the seam. This leaves a nice flat bottom for both the bag and the lining. It also helps make the boxed corners crisp. And lots of extra security.
That is a great addition Candace!
Love the bag! Would love to see one with a zipper, a water bottle holder and some pockets! I enjoy your tutorials, easy to understand and follow and direct and to the point. Thank you!
I love this grocery bag. I would probably add a draw string to mine to prevent the groceries falling out of the bag while in the trunk. Perfect size and a practical bag. I love it!! Going to make me 2 of them.
That would be a great addition!
Excellent video! I was mostly interested in how you attached the strap handles. Beautiful bag.
Love your bag. I also made one with dividers for bottles. So much easier when carrying as they don’t keep falling down.
That's a great idea! I will have to try that too!
Thank you so much for your clear and easy to understand video on sewing the reusable grocery bag. ! I'm now on my fourth one of these bags and they keep getting better. I'm new to sewing and your video was super helpful in getting me started.
Thank you for your kind gift! I am so glad to hear that you are making the grocery bag and have seen more then one! It is my all time favourite bag to use and I am so glad you were able to find the tutorial helpful. Happy sewing! 🧵
Hello Tamara! Great tutorial!! Your video filming is really nice, plus your explanations are excellent!! Thanks for creating & sharing such a nice video!!
🔆 Maybe consider showing how to make super simple totes by recycling our own old clothes or Thirft items? Thanks!!
Thank you. I just made one of these, but substituted old denim for the entire bottom section. It turned out great. Your instructions are very good!
Using old denim is a great idea!
Great video thanks so much for sharing. What I really love about your video was that you showed the completed project at the beginning - hardly anyone has the common sense to do this and you gave really clear instructions, which I loved too. To help me with my makes I also write brief notes of the instructions in a Word document and capture screen shots of the video so I can use it as a quick reference guide in the future, I always include the link to the RUclips clip so I can always find it again.
Love it when they show the item in the beginning.. others I fast forward to see what it is first lol
Happy bag making 😊😊😊
How about a Carrier for a large crockpot with insulbrite and zipper lid.
That’s a great idea Cheryl, I will have to pull out my crockpot to see how I can do that!
OMG thank you thank you thank you! First timer here 😃This is a wonderfully well explained step-by-step grocery bag tutorial (waterproof a plus)! You’re an inspiration!
I am so glad to hear that Marisol!!!! I hope you enjoy sewing this bag. I love mine🥳☺️
Excellent instructions!! Thanks, from a newbie. I would love to see a tutorial for a library bag for sure. I have a daughter who loves to load up from the library. Thank you! ❤❤❤
So glad to hear that Helen! My son loads up on library books too. Those bags can get heavy! I will start thinking of a good library bag to sew :)
I LOVE how your instruction is so clear! Thank you so much. I'm a beginner and want to try this!
Excellent work THANK YOU ❤️
Fantastic tutorial and such a useful tote thank you! And would love a tote with zipper pockets : )
Thank you Gisela! Zipper pockets sound very helpful, Thanks for the suggestion!
I love pockets🤣
Love your tutorials. Currently working on 6 totes from your last video. Would love to see totes with zippers❤.
Impressive Traci!!!! And thanks for the suggestion, zippers will have to be added in a future tote for sure😍
Amazing. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you for your videos...they are easy to follow. Some with zippered tops and frayed edges would be nice. And if we use a handle with a pattern, it would be handy to tell us to put it right side down, lol.
Love the bags. ❤
Thank you Chrissy! 🥳
Beautiful bag !
Thank you Theresa! I am super proud of this one!
Love this bag and love your video! Thanks!!
So glad to hear it! Thanks for your kind feedback.
Great inspiration for a new sewer.
Thank you Doris!
Fabulous experiment, bag, and tutorial, Tamara! I have subscribed for more!
Thank you so much Gloria! And welcome :) I have some tutorials I am super excited to share in the next two weeks. I hope you will love them as much as I do.
love your tutorials
Thank you Anna!
I like it. I built a similar bag by examining another bag and taking measurements but, your assembly method is superior.
Thank you!
Such a beautiful bag! And well constructed. Glad it didn’t leak! 😊
Thanks Laura! I am glad too 😅😅😅
I really like this bag, but I'm wondering if it might be better to use the waterproof fabric as the lining on the INSIDE. That way you have all the benefits of using the waterproof fabric, but you are still free to use whatever decorative fabric you like on the outside.
Maybe an insulated bag for frozen foods /cold items?
Great idea Brenda!!! I will write that down and give it some thought.
@@TamarasJoyDIY I also forgot to tell you that I really like this grocery bag, and I’m excited,ed to make some for Christmas gifts!
If you don't have a teflon foot you can put matte scotch tape on regular bottom of foot.
Great bag.
I would love to see if you could possibly try those canvas tote bag with multiple compartments for tumblers and labtops etc.
Love this bag! And ALL of your tutorials! I’m a knitter and am always looking for project bags/ tutorials! I love a tote bag with an inner drawstring! Zippers don’t really work with yarn because they get stuck and regular drawstring bags are too floppy🤪😂💕
Thank you so much Maggie! A project bag is a great idea! My sister in law knits so I can get her to test my prototype once I come up with something. Love this idea! 💓💓🥳
@@TamarasJoyDIY yay!!! Thank you!💕
@@TamarasJoyDIYAs a knitter, home dec sewer and quilter, I can NEVER get enough project totes! One sister is a crocheter and heirloom sewer; the other a prodigious quilter. Neither makes totes/bags. I’d love to send a couple project totes to each for Christmas.
Hello Tamara I really enjoyed your video thank you for sharing it. Do you think you could do the same grocery bag but make it foldable. I have seen them with snaps or buttons almost like a clutch and wristlet.
I would like for you to do a tutorial of making a sleeve for the folding lawn chairs. I can’t tell you how many sleeves have torn.
I made this bag first time very nice i like it pleas tell mi how to sell this bag
It's beautiful ❤️.
I want tote bag with zipper and pockets. God bless you 🙏🏻
YES! I need to do this for sure. Thanks for the suggestion :)
Can you do a “Mesh Tote Grocery Bag”?
Love the bag! I would like to know how to make a flat bottom bag that could hold a container that measures 9” X 9”. I understand the principle of making the bag but don’t know the correct measurements to make the bottom of the bag accommodate that size. Can you help?
A way to attach the bags to your cart, similar to the Lotus bags, would be neat.
I was thinking of making a larger bag and was wondering if I have to think about anything. Can I just make every part larger? Im new to sewing so I don't really know how it works
Thanks for the lovely sawing tutorial is the any fabric that I can use for the bottom we do not get that vinyl fabric here where I am
Hi heather, I would suggest going to your local fabric store and asking what they may have for a comparison. Perhaps an outdoor fabric would work? It may not be waterproof but perhaps water resistant! Hope you can find something that works. And happy sewing!!!
Awesome vid sis, i made 4 shopping bags from yours
Ahhhhh!!!!! That’s amazing!!!!! I am so glad you enjoyed making them!
@@TamarasJoyDIY sewing...it's so manly hahaha
Also, how to add alternative back pack straps to ease carrying up several steps
Can you make this bag in smaller sizes?
Off subject..
Paint color on green wall .. me trying to find one for my room lol
And i like that shade..
Ok back to watching video 😊
Pamela! I am soooo happy with this color green. It is by Benjamin Moore and it’s called October mist cc-550. You will love it!
@@TamarasJoyDIY thank you 😊
This looks lovely. I'm just curious, though - I don't care about leak-proof and I don't care about the loveliness of the two-tone color. It looks like the bottom plastic-canvas is optional?
Absolutely! It’s a total option to add it. If you wanted to have a stiffer bag you could use fusible fleece interfacing to give it some extra support. Otherwise I recommend sf101 or if you are good with a floppy bag then no interfacing is an option as well. Happy sewing Cindy!
Can you make a tutorial on how to sew a waterproof bag to carry my cleaning bottles and rags for my cleaning business. ❤
Great suggestion! I suppose you could use all poly fabric for something like that. I will have to give it some thought.
Is the waterproof fabric PUL (polyurethane laminate fabric) what you used?
Love the long straps. They give the bags so much more support.
Hi Sharon, I bought the fabric at my local fabricland and it was titled waterproof polyester canvas. It has a shiny side and a poly/canvas side. I am sure that you could ask at your local fabric store and they would know where to guide you. I have used my bag a lot since sewing it and I agree, the long straps are super helpful to carry heavy items :) Happy Sewing!
PULL fabric or cork fabric, both work well for the base / bottom of this bag. Most often only available online, but are long lasting, waterproof, and easy to clean, all worth the extra cost. PULL fabric is machine washable and foldable. Most cork fabrics, unless thin are not foldable, but very sturdy, supportive and clean up well with baby wipes!
Julie
Can you make a bible cover with handles to carry it. Thank you. 😊
Great idea!
Large shopping bag, self standing but made from recycled jeans/denim
I would like a recessed zipped tote bag
Great idea! I will work on that as I want one too!
How about a kooler bag, for frozen foods?
Great idea! I will have to give it some thought so I get it right.
how about lightweight bags for produce, I hate the plastic ones
Agreed! I will work on this.
The link to the webbing doesn’t show the exact one you used. Is it possible to update the link to go directly to just cotton polyester webbing?
Hi Karen, My struggle with amazon is that the links change all the time, so I try to explain in the search portion exactly what I use so it pops up the most current product in your country. But you can use any straps really. I just don't like the full poly ones because they look shiny, even though it really doesn't matter. Hope that helps! Happy Sewing :)
Too fussy! I make bags too but it is purely about strength above all else. I don’t bother with lining since I use only heavy canvas to ensure durability and longevity.
Schönes Tutorial.Doch die Stimme der Dame geht einem nach kürzester Zeit auf die Nerven.
Ilike the bag look, but dont care for the vynyl
