A lot of people say this is a happy album but… I’m not getting that read. Sure yeah, there’s more outward happiness, and the outlook of the album is generally more positive and striving for healing than Melodrama but there is still SO much pain in this album. The biggest difference between this album and how it handles pain to that of Melodrama, is that it seems much more emotionally mature and more interested in healing while Melodrama was all about letting yourself feel the pain no matter how intense the emotion. Idk a bunch of thoughts on how mixed the emotions are on this album, it’s not completely happy but it’s not so utterly destructive emotionally.
This album is art, I was afraid of not liking it because I saw a lot of negative comments, but I really feel in love at the first track, you can feel and hear how lorde has become mature, I think that the fans didn't like it because critics didn't like it, but music is subjective and in my point of view this album is a masterpiece.
I didn’t quite get the vibe at the first listen. But I’ve been listening to it nonstop and I have to say that it is quite amazing. The music, the lyrics, everything is wonderful. And of course like you said music is subjective and fans of an artist shouldn’t feel obligated to like all their work. But being negative and hateful to someone who has clearly worked hard is just awful. Great artists grow.
Stoned at the nail salon is honestly one of my fav song by lords ever. Whenever I drive home at night after a great day I listen to it and it makes me smile and cry and dream about my childhood + big star
okay, so i recognize that Melodrama is one of the bests. but since i am a teenager, i still resonate so much with Pure Heroine. the Melodrama perspective have not overlapped with where i am in life, so the Solar Power hit me much more. the current situation of mine is literally defined by Solar Power, so it tops Melodrama for me.
@Umamaheswari G she mentioned on a Twitter live months ago how she was attacked by Ariana and lady Gaga stans after she didn't like Chromatica and positions 😞
As a '60's baby from the UK. I sat, with my headphones on, in the dark, already open to what was coming next. Solar Power hinted at it, Stoned at The Nail Salon nibbled at it, and Mood Ring winked at it. With each, and EVERY song, Ella confirmed it for me. This album, in all it's nooks and crannies, is a thank you. It's a love letter to every person who raised her, and quite literally, every musician who raised her Mum and Dad. The vast majority of her loyal fans are not my age. Their sonic emotional journey through life is not that of me, my contemporaries or her Mum and Dad. But, they're going to absolutely ADORE Ella for introducing them to the music that storied her childhood, that shaped her musical sensibilities, that made her feel safe. Thank you Ella, thank you Mr. O' Connor and thank you Ms. Yellich.
@@BenSavageDonovan Sorry Rob, I'd appreciate a little more context. Am I speaking of which in relation to lyrics and/or instruments? Can you help me out please? Cheers
solar power and melodrama are so different tho. she seems so much happier now and some songs are really good (the path, secrets from a girl, mood ring, fallen fruit, etc). im really happy for her and proud of her for releasing this album and I LOVE IT.
this album is like "ribs" by Lorde. the first time you listen to it, your'e just kinda left there nothing special really but something in you just keep saying to listen to it again, and you did. now, you can't get enough of it, it just grew in you.
I love that her opening lines are always coherent with her closing ones. In this case, she opens the album talking about her birth, and she ends it by hinting her death.
fun fact: the bugs at the end of oceanic feeling are recordings of cicadas in new zealand that lorde took on her phone :) there are other sounds like ocean waves throughout the album that are also sound recordings that she took on her phone too!
Lorde album is very age-specific and personal to her. So I feel like unless you’re in your early/mid 20’s, you wouldn’t resonate to her work (especially this album)
i agree honestly! i feel like the reason this resonated with me is because i'm in my 20's and experiencing a lot of these same things that she's singing about
I feel like it's not necessarily about age but where you are in your life. I'm stepping into late 20s and each lorde album has resonated with me perfectly. it's probably also about coming in without expectations
I'm 70 years old and I realize that every one of those years is still alive. There is a part of that will always be a newborn, a twelve year old, a thirty five year old, a ... yeah. Like that. Lorde's music resonates as art regardless of age. When I first heard "Bravado," it grabbed me by my 15 year old ears, even though I was 62 at the time. The planet is a rock and I'm always doing my best to roll with it. "Solar Power" is such a sweet nod to the spirit of living through these times. Kudos to Lorde Ella.
The reaction we’ve been waiting for and Caitlin Marie didn’t disappoint. Totally nailed this album. One of the BEST reactors on YouTUbe reviewing one of our best artists. What more can you ask for?
OMG I just realised after the explanation of what fallen fruit is about, the beeping is a bin lorry or “garbage truck” I knew I heard that sound before, she’s probably commenting on the sheer amount of waste we’ve created🤷♀️
this album is truly beautiful. i’m new to the Lorde fandom and hearing that this album is different from her others, which makes me scared for her other albums. but 10/10.
If you love the artist, you’ll love the other albums too. Lorde is a musical genius, she just doesn’t always stick to the same sound( I personally don’t think Pure Heroine and Melodrama are all that similar, but they are more closer in sound than solar power is to them). If you love Lorde’s lyrics, then you’ll enjoy her other albums as well☺️
It’s so Magical and Sounds Sophisticated, it’s like i’m walking in a museum and everything has its own story and feeling…. And the 60’s with the early 2000’s track and of course her poetic lyricism, So Unique, A Masterpiece that i never heard or my soul is finding for this whole life. Thank you Lorde for making my life meditated. ☀️💛
Just adding something a couple of months later. This album begins in beauty. It ends in beauty. And there's nothing but beauty in between. Your reaction is also beautiful. The good news is that it Ella's continued evolution from "Bravado" through "400 Lux" and "The Louvre" and into "Oceanic Feelings" There is a certain beauty that transcends pop commercialism. I am grateful for this era. I absolutely love how you deliver your relatable reaction. Keep this up.
There are so many growers on this album that you have to listen to it multiple times to get into it and notice all the interesting production choices and lyrical references. (Especially the repetion of the solar "power"- as happiness/self empowerment, astrology, alternative energy, "disappearing into the sun") One of the things I think Lorde always does well is delivering cohesive albums that feel like a slice of her life at the time she's writing them. Everything flows so well together and listening to it from beginning to end really makes it all hit.
This album has been a grower for me. It’s actually taken me 5 listens through for it to grab me. Each listen is a different experience. It was overwhelming the first time. So I just kept relistening, watching all the reactions and breakdowns, and learning the lyrics. I think I just wasn’t ready because the singles she released ahead of time, I feel, are different than the rest of the tracks. Mood ring is still one of my favorites though. It’s a vibe.
caitlin is the only one who actually reviewed this album while reading the meaning of each track. Everyone else just listened to the Lp and talked shit about it claiming to be in lorde head. I didn't know some people were omniscent.
One thing that sets your reactions apart from so many others is your editing. It grabs my attention so well. Keep it up. Also, you and I both share the emotional empathy so much. I literally cried 6 times (which I recorded on my phone n sent to my friends who also frequent Lorde) listening to this album. ITS SO GOOD!!! Have a great day and stay safe and healthy.
I am a Lana del Rey fan and this has SUCH LANA VIBES I LOVE IT IT'S THE KIND OF ALBUM YOU LAY DOWN TO LISTEN TO WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED AND IT GIVES YOU CHILLS ON ALL YOUR SKIN
You are such a thoughtful reactor, Caitlin. I can tell you take popular culture, and the way that you relate to it, seriously. Thank you for helping me appreciate the things you do in music!
YES best reaction so far. It’s SO GOOD. probs my fav lorde album and I’m a stan. she seems so solid in where she is and this album really reflects that. The lyricism is off the charts. I wish people would give it a third and fourth chance cause if they do they will fall in love!!! AOTY!!
Lorde said the sirens on Dominoes is because when she was recording the window was open and she liked it the sound of the sirens because it reminds her the summer.
SO TRUE BESTIE! I just DON'T GET THE MIXED REVIEWS like i get that it is not everyone's cup of tea on first listen, it is indeed a grower, but this album is SO well put together, cohesive, and the storytelling and production are literally CHEF'S KISS!!!!!! Every time you listen to it you hear something new. It has important messages, nostalgia, happiness, it has IT ALL. I love it so much, this is art
This Album is a sublime autobiography, love letter and thank you all rolled into one beautiful document. it is the most comprehensive, cohesive and complex ode to 60 years of musical styles, musical genres and specific artists all while sharing with us, her fans, the music that's bookmarked her life! What a precious gift!!! Literally every song is delivered flawlessly in multiple iconic vocal and musical styles that are both a tribute to specific artists, (sometimes just stylistically), but in almost every song, a tribute to a specific album, song AND lyric or refrain all at once. It's genius! To produce an album that's going to remind older folk like me of times long forgotten whilst telling her own story. That concurrently shares the musical influences of her life's journey to date with her contemporaries who may never ever have heard the music from the '60's and '70's that went onto influence the Pop stars of the future - is GENIUS!!! To be blunt, in my humble opinion - this is the most complicated, complex and comprehensive compendium of 60 years of "Pop" music ever produced in a single Album. This album will keep giving to every listener for decades to come because it's handed her fans THE KEY to a life times journey in music.
I really liked the album I feel like being in the same age category I can relate to a lot of it and feel the vibe of it … it kind of made me emotional too
On my initial listen, the only songs that stood out for me were The Path, Fallen Fruit, and Mood Ring. But now, every single song has grown on me, this album is soooo beautiful! I wish Hold No Grudge was on Spotify 😭😍
ngl, i actually waited for you to post the video of your reaction to solar power, caitlin, before i go and listen to the album myself :) love your vibes soo much🌞💖
Love how you feel the music. Liderally me when no ones watching. I just bought the vinyl today and was surprised. Mood Ring is like completely different mixed and you can hear Jack on Dominos (similar to the Roof Live performance - I was so glad about that) and in the ending on oceanic feeling.
Great reaction. I want more. Anything. But I must say that anyone who doesn't get the beauty of this album is someone who needs to learn how to love better. When you know love, you will never ever be able to think of Solar Power as anything but love's gift. Thank you Caitlin Marie. You not only get it but you share it.

i think its totally fine to not like the sound, its very different, but the lyrics and the themes, its very much peak Lorde just like Melodrama was
Caitlin: *picks cup of coffee up*
Lorde: *begins ‘The Path’ chorus*
Caitlin: *puts cup of coffee down because she can’t believe what she is hearing*

Also let’s remember that Lorde has said herself that the album also is a sarcastic take on that whole shallow self love culture stuff
Solar Power is my favorite album from Lorde, it is amazing, so chill, i love it so much
Stoned at the nail salon is honestly one of my fav song by lords ever. Whenever I drive home at night after a great day I listen to it and it makes me smile and cry and dream about my childhood + big star
Writer in the dark and liability outperfomed, lmao
okay, so i recognize that Melodrama is one of the bests. but since i am a teenager, i still resonate so much with Pure Heroine. the Melodrama perspective have not overlapped with where i am in life, so the Solar Power hit me much more. the current situation of mine is literally defined by Solar Power, so it tops Melodrama for me.
Im sad , Ajayii is not reacting to it ,but I hope Shes ok ,healthy and happy

TURN IT UP ⬆️
There’s two bonus tracks too - “Helen of Troy” and “Hold no grudge” which are SO good too so we would love to see your reaction to it
As a '60's baby from the UK.
Yellich.
are you talking about those songs instrumentally or lyrically?
@@BenSavageDonovan Sorry Rob, I'd appreciate a little more context. Am I speaking of which in relation to lyrics and/or instruments? Can you help me out please? Cheers
The way you start dancing in Mood Ring, with a confused expression is killing me rn💀👆🏻
Lorde said she wrote Secrets From a Girl (Who’s Seen It All) after listening to Ribs. She said it was a response to that song and her past self.
It took me TWO YEARS to realize how good this album is, you must be on a different mind set that the one you were in 2021 frrrrr
solar power and melodrama are so different tho. she seems so much happier now and some songs are really good (the path, secrets from a girl, mood ring, fallen fruit, etc). im really happy for her and proud of her for releasing this album and I LOVE IT.
this album is like "ribs" by Lorde. the first time you listen to it, your'e just kinda left there nothing special really but something in you just keep saying to listen to it again, and you did. now, you can't get enough of it, it just grew in you.
I love that her opening lines are always coherent with her closing ones. In this case, she opens the album talking about her birth, and she ends it by hinting her death.
There are also 2 deluxe tracks: helen of troy and hold no grudge, you should check them out they're incredible
They’re not on RUclips or Spotify are they? How did you find them
fun fact: the bugs at the end of oceanic feeling are recordings of cicadas in new zealand that lorde took on her phone :) there are other sounds like ocean waves throughout the album that are also sound recordings that she took on her phone too!
Man fallen fruit is a masterpiece 😭
Lorde album is very age-specific and personal to her. So I feel like unless you’re in your early/mid 20’s, you wouldn’t resonate to her work (especially this album)
Agreed
i agree honestly! i feel like the reason this resonated with me is because i'm in my 20's and experiencing a lot of these same things that she's singing about
I'm 24, and I did not resonate to this album at all. Pure heroine did tho
What more can you ask for?
i appreciate u!!!
If you love Lorde’s lyrics, then you’ll enjoy her other albums as well☺️
Fear not. If you fear, you may miss the love. And there's so much of that.Enjoy.
At first i was like ok cute, but NOW i'm like "Lorde did it again", i LOVE this album sm😭
i don't know if it's just me but this new album has really big underwater energy
The Grammy's better pull themselves together, AOTY right here...
I hate the fact that has many bad reviews

YES best reaction so far. It’s SO GOOD. probs my fav lorde album and I’m a stan. she seems so solid in where she is and this album really reflects that. The lyricism is off the charts. I wish people would give it a third and fourth chance cause if they do they will fall in love!!! AOTY!!
I feel adrenaline on some mystical songs, its a cohesive experience, which continues with some bops and a masterful ending. after like 60 listens.
Jack is singing on dominoes on vinyl version btw . He sound soooo good . Idk why they changed it for streaming versions.
It got ruined with Jack's shouting smh
Y’all, I listened to this album yesterday when I went rollerblading and omfg,,, twas a different experience. I felt so free and happy omggomgg
the solar power vinyl has added background vocals on dominos which sound AWESOME
big star PUNCHED my heart.
My favourite tracks:
The path
Secrets from a girl
The man with the axe
Mood ring
Oceanic feeling
Lorde said the sirens on Dominoes is because when she was recording the window was open and she liked it the sound of the sirens because it reminds her the summer.
I hate the idea that Lorde has probably read P*fork's insulting reviews. I wish she knew how much this album means to me and a lot of people.
when is Pitchfork ever nice to artists? they are so incredibly rude in every single goddamn review, just-
who hurt them?
This shows Lorde's musicality. Very thoughtful and tender in places. Thank you, Caitlin for this.
Idk why but I’m crying with you gurl
She knows what year we need her! 🦋✨🦋✨
Helen of Troy and Hold no Grudge are so good too. ❤️
YES I've been waiting for the notif all day here we go :)))
thanks for being here!
Caitlin you need to listen to the bonus tracks. They are soooooooo amazing.
Finally someone who appreciates this masterpiece
The path and mood ring are definitely my top 2
not me crying to big star over my dead cat hhhhh thank you so much caitlin, i loved this

You not only get it but you share it.

so funny that you mention the similarity to lana right before listening to stoned at the nail salon, which directly lifts Lanas melody from “hope is a dangerous thing…” this is NOT a dig at lorde, but it’s just funny timing

@@mazzistar yeah it has kinda the same guitar pattern as wild at heart, and the same melody as hope. so it’s a funny coincidence she just happened to mention it right before, and then not notice
