    Thank you for this video! ❤ I was just outside feeding my own crows today. here in cold Scandinavia 😊 Do you know when crow babies are born? Usually my crows show me their "babies" in august when they're almost full grown, but still need to be fed snd behave like babies. I usually give them cheese, peanuts and meat. When do the eggs hatch?

    there is no way fur is dangerous for birds- when they can be seen collecting it on their own in the wild every year, spring after spring, from deer and alike

      @RT-qd8yl 5 месяцев назад +1

      I was told the only danger could come from chemicals and topical pesticides that could be in the fur from shampoos, flea and tick treatment, etc. But if none of those things are present, it's fine.

    I don't remember a single case in which any of my crows communicated verbally with me about food (of course, they might have tried without me realizing it). At least one crow has an established "food communication" with me, though: If (s)he lands next to the food bowl, looks at the food bowl, doesn't take anything, walks half a meter away from the food bowl and starts staring at me that means something like: "You are aware that the food left in the bowl is not good enough, aren't you...?" (Usually referring to no more cashews being left.)

    I was having good luck befriending a pair of crows that live somewhere near me, in my neighborhood in the suburbs of Ottawa. They came every day and took lots of food, of all varieties (I really spoiled them with bird charcuterie boards of nuts, meats, fruit and whole wheat bread) but lately they haven't been coming. I really miss them. I hope it's just because they're tending to babies!
    The grackles are still here in full force, however. 😅

      I also spoil all the birds in my area. 😊 My only worry is if I change their natural Instinct and ability to ger food on their own If I feed them twice a week for five years. But I want to give all the birds are good life, in particular in the cold winter when there is no food, then all birds deserve to be spoiled. 😊

      @@mobilkontot1709 I think they'll be okay as long as you aren't feeding them enough to completely replace all their meals. What part of Scandinavia are you from? I used to live in the Faroe Islands. :)

    I thoroughly enjoyed this video! What lively and interesting behavior. I should try the water displacement test with my American crows.

    A similar thing happened with magpies and carrion crows here, the crows kept raiding their nest and stealing their sticks and eventually the magpies gave up. Our local carrion crows don't care about any birds aside from raptors, individual gulls and other corvids. I've seen Mergo, our big male, divebombing jackdaws, magpies and jays from down the street. I've never seen him do it to other Carrion Crows, though! Your videos help me so much as most crow content on the internet is American Crows, even though Hooded Crows aren't the same as Carrion Crows their behaviour and calls are so similar I feel as though I understand my friends a little better thanks to you!!

      @mobilkontot1709 5 месяцев назад +2

      They compete about food and territory. If you feed all the birds and spoil them, they all get along in the same area 😊. I've been feeling crows, magpies and jackdaws for five years now, and of course there is a hierarchy, but they still get along If there's plenty of food. 😊

      @@mobilkontot1709I provide a Lot of food, haha, and Mergo and Eileen seem very intent that my front garden is theirs!!! I feel as though they've claimed me (and therefore my food). I enjoy every bird that visits my garden and the drama and squabbles are fascinating.

      @@rookbirdblues Yes it's true that the birds claim you. My crows get very jealous when I feed the seagulls. 😊 They try to collect all the food, which they consider to be theirs. They also temporarily change their behaviour towards me to show that it's not okay for me to feed other birds than the usual ones (crows, magpies and jackdaws).

    Helllo Alexandria, There’s another website out there on RUclips called “A Shot of Wildlife” with Liam, the host, (ruclips.net/video/A-5VAHsHwqQ/видео.html) and you may find it very interesting! In west Britain where I have been living (on and off) for over 40 years the crow population has been rapidly depleted due to intensive farming. The crowned crow is a majestic bird but the largest of the crow family is the Rook.
    The Magpie is a more colourful fellow and more solitary than the crows who nest together in pairs (called a rookery by us, but the term for a family of crows is a ‘horde’, ugly as the term sounds).

    Thank you for the nice video.
    The ravens on Vance Crowfoot's channel have a very similar call to 5:48. Vance calls it the 'territorial call'.
    Once I observed a crow making this call before harassing a kestrel. So yes, I think it is a territorial call.
    It could perhaps mean: "Look everyone, this is my territory and I'm going to get the tasty food. Nobody else should try!"

    I'm still curious about the additional female you've got who Kruu has been chasing poor thing. Have you ever watched crows mate? That thing that she did in front of Kräri when she first arrived is the exact same thing that "my" female did the other day when she was ready for some action.
    I've never witnessed it before, but they mated right in front of me, which surprised me. It was quite the saucy spectacle I must say, I almost called the police 😄 My favourite part was (presumably) when or right after he climaxed, he craned his neck upwards triumphantly and cawed loudly to the sky.
    Anyway, my thought is that unless Kräri's daughter is making advances towards her father (which I think is unlikely), I think she's a female outsider trying to steal Kräri from Kruu, which is something quite typical in the corvid world. I've never seen female crows fight physically, but I know other corvids do this (sometimes to the death), and the male kind of just watches and will mate with whoever wins, which might explain why Kräri has been relatively chill about her being around but Kruu absolutely not. In his mind, she could be a nice extra in case something happens to Kruu, but his bond with Kruu prevents him from acting on it while she is still vital.
    I can't sit so far away and make any bold claims, but that's what I've been thinking after watching that mating and I thought maybe you'd find it interesting.
    Cheers,

      Very interesting! I saw crows mating once but not Krari and Kruu.I have read that male crows can also have flings and mate with females in neighboring territories. I still think Trudy is one of their fledglings. I see how they react to other crows in their territory, it is different. The level of acceptance is different. They would never allow a strange crow to sit in the tree in the middle of their territory. They attack strangers right away. Trudy was usually attacked by Krari and Kruu when food was involved. And thats the time of the day she usually appeared. After the feeding they could sit peacefully in one tree together.

      @@KrariTheCrow Yes you might be right. There are so many pitfalls for us trying to understand them. They're hard to distinguish and much of the way we do it is by interpreting their body language, vocalizations and actions, which probably have nuances we don't catch all the time. Make a vlog about it if you get some eureka moments. We're doing informal research :D

    Die Katzenhaare für das Nest sind ein schönes Geschenk für die beiden! Das können sie sicherlich gut gebrauchen - und irgendwie ist es doch auch sehr schön zu wissen, dass die Babies gut gebettet auf dem Fell der Katze, die man liebt. So hat auch die Katze, ohne es zu wissen, ihren Teil dazu beigetragen... Oha, Ich bin gerade an der Stelle, wo du erzählst, dass der Tierarzt davon abgeraten hat. Daran hätte ich jetzt nicht gedacht, dass sie sich darin verheddern können. (Ich schreib den Kommentar während dem schauen...)
    Schön, auch Elstern in deinem Video zu sehen. Schade, dass die Krähen, sie verscheucht haben. Elstern mag ich auch sehr gerne, sehe hier nur relativ selten welche. Wobei es eine Elster gibt, die mich dabei beobachtet hat, dass ich auf meinem Weg zu den Krähen beim Wald auch hier Krähen füttere, wenn sie mich sehen. Ab und zu kann sie sich mal eine Erdnuss klauen.
    Ich bin gespannt, ob das Rätsel mit dem Wasser gelöst wird. Ich hatte mal ein Video dazu auf RUclips gesehen, wo die Krähe es verstanden hatte.
