- Tool Fans.....FEELIN' YOU!!! Tonight we're coming back to Tool, with a pair of songs entitled "Parabol" & "Parabola". Ususally I don't like doing 2 songs in one video, because that means I have to fight 2 copyrights for one video. BUT...you all spoke, and said I need to do both of these songs together. You spoke, I listened, and here we are with both songs in one video. How's this one gonna go? Only one way to find out...
Come on in, enjoy the show...I'll see you inside.

As you're yelling "I'm waiting for something to happen!", we're all yelling "JUST PRESS PLAY!" 🤣🤣🤣 My absolute favorite Tool song...er, song combo. Thank you, Supervised Chaos! 🙏🙏🙏
Np love these jams as well and they were missing on the playlist next month is descending my favourite tool track
Thank you for being able to recognize the fuckin genius of Justin Chancellor
💯
12:28 - When you realised that the moment of release you were waiting for was at the exact moment you'd paused it. That reaction was worth a thumbs up just by itself 😂
Justin is the TOOL’s secret sauce, he anchors so much within their sound. 😎 🎸 🤘🏼
After 20+ years, this still gives me the goosebumps.
Thank You Supervised Chaos! You Rock!
Hey np
"tool is fully capable of writing a song in 4/4.". That cracked me up.
The groove in Parabola starting at 17:08 is one of, if not my all-time favorite rock grooves. The stank on the guitars, the driving drums of Danny... Just pure bliss.
The coin was correct! Lateralis is one of the best albums I've ever heard, from start to finish. One day I would love you to be able to listen to it all in your own time. It's a masterpiece
Thank you Supervised Chaos!
Hey np
Btw, the second song starts with that "explosion".
The fact that you said wait till the video is over before you click makes me feel validated that that’s what I already do. It’s refreshing to hear honesty and integrity as opposed to a request to click before the videos even starts.
All hail the coin of truth
Well, you couldn't have timed that pause better lol
I can’t wait to hear you react too Tool song Descending album version!!! Incredible song!!!
December
Parabol by itself is a really beautifully intriguing tease, it ends with the swell and everything, Parabola coming in strong straight after. The coin is right.
Definitely needed them both together, some songs are essentially one even if the style changes a lot in between.
There are actually several TOOL tracks that should be listened to in pairs... There is even a trio (Disposition, Reflection and Triad) known as "the Holy Trinity). This is because they are actually whole tracks that have been split on the disc because for some reason they are too long Maybe for record deals an album has to contain a certain number of tracks or you can't exceed a certain duration etc. So here's some advice for the future: when you have to review a TOOL song and the fans will be asking you to do 2 at the same time, trust them! There is definitely a reason and you won't actually hear 2 songs, but one in two parts.
As a devout tool fan, triad can be left off the "holy Trinity" in my opinion or at least swap over to the live footage where he shreds haha. The live version kicks ass but the studio version is a sleeper
Wings for Marie part one and two. 2 more pieces that should be listened to together or something will be missed. And I agree, Triad can be left off. It has the feel of a filler song and I've always considered it to be so.
If you connect the songs in Lateralus like this: first and last, second and second to last, etc, ending with Parabol and Parabola (tracks 6 and 7), and listen to them paired. For example The Grudge into Faaip de Oiad, Eon Blue Apocalypse into Triad, and so on, you will notice that every song fits perfectly into the respective paired song.
When he screams ALIVE!! is when I turn the volume up to max. It's the best part in my opinion. XD
Do tool vicarious next
As I tell people: Yeah, sex is great . . . BUT! . . . have you heard the transition between Parabol and Parabola?
One of my absolute favorite Tool projects ❤️
Thanks for the shout out. I'm actually excited to watch your reaction on these songs. I've listened to these songs more times than I'm willing to count.
David they even threw in a DIDGERIDOO! MIND BLOWING. ✌️
Couldn't help but laugh along with you when it dropped 😂 Your excitement in parts is so infectious, and your reactions are always a joy to watch. Never change, David!
When this song hits, it’s not like it drops out from under you- it’s more like a roller coaster that’s been towing you up to the top, until you finally crest the top of that first hill. After that, you’re just along for the ride :)
I long to the top and a huge drop 🤘
Supervised Chaos you're awesome 🤘 First time I've been mentioned as a requester in any reaction video. 😄 This one of my all time favorites and really enjoyed your reaction and breakdown. Thanks David for all the great content. Great way to start my only day off this week. 🌀
Hey np
Two things. I noticed watching this video and schism, I haven't listened to these songs in LONG time.. but I'm really surprised at how much noise there is.
Second thing, this album was released after the first a perfect circle album and it was very clear his vocals on this album were inspired by the more melodic offerings from mer de noms.
As a tool fan it seemed very clear when this album came out.
This is a yt video inside a yt video, of course the audio quality is not great. The CD is obviously way cleaner
@@jakefromstatefarm1405 that's not changing anything. The album is this noisy.
So.. wide eyed and hopeful 12:22 this is why you listen to both😂 also, you are one of the few reactors that listened to the double play and I appreciate that 🙏 , most people don’t hear the transition immediately and I think it makes a big difference
A 42 minute Tool reaction? Sign me up
Thanks Supervised Chaos and all who requested. I don't know if Dave had done The Patient but we need to get him to check that song out
Thanks supervisedChaos!
Hey np
If a creator asks for like/subscribe at the beginning, they will be required to do better than they would have otherwise....
Thank you for doing it right !
First I've ever heard it like that.
As usual, another stellar review. Your ability to read through the simple complexities and extrapolate on it is second to none. Thanx David, don’t ever change !!!
Great reaction as always David. No one does them like you. So entertaining. And thank you to Supervised Chaos for helping make this one happen 👍🏻👁🤘🏼
Hey np
@@supervisedchaos ✌🏻
Glad to see you do more Tool. Hope in the future u will react to Eulogy and Vicarious, 2 great songs. Always a great show u do with Tool. Thanks Supervised Chaos
Hey np
I’ll say it again, only tool reaction that matters💯sick vid man
Another gem from an amazing album
Ah, masterpiece🤌. Love this reaction and props to the requestor for getting you the right video 💯
Listening to your reaction to this was so much fun, haha... I loved riding along with you as you listened to this masterpiece for the first time.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'd never ask you to do it on the show, but you really should try queuing up the album, turning the lights off, and listening to it all the way through. It's AMAZING how well it flows. You've already listened to and really enjoyed half the songs off the album. They work even better in tandem.
Great reaction video David! Your breakdown was very informative. Tool never fails to impress me and this didn't disappoint. The swell between the two songs was awesome and I really dug that. Loved the vocals and did hear A Perfect Circle in parts of these songs. Liked your way of making a decision, coin of truth, especially when it's correct. Good score, was expecting a score like that.
33:33 - Trust the coin, the coin knows. :)
Also: Thank you Supervised Chaos for this request.
Hey right on thanks for the shout out popular track... the swell into the main track is the division between the 2 tracks sorry for the confusion I figured 1 link is easier then 2 trust the coin
One of my favorite Tool song. 100%. Two songs, like the two sides of a coin, different, but two parts of a all. Thank you for explaining us misic David. Thank you ;-)
12:22 What gets me the most about this moment was the fact that you turned your damn head right when Parabola kicks in, then your magical laugh and reaction was the cherry on top! I love your reactions and I can’t wait to see more! HARUMPH!
@@meltingdoll3517 HARRUMPH!!!
30 yrs my favorite band and it never gets old to me
Thanks David for your Tool reviews...always great
" I'm waiting for something to happen. " and BANG right I'm the face lmao
This is the combo of tracks that really pulled me into Tool. I was working at Sam Goody and the DVD they made us play in the store had the official video for these two on it and it simply blew my mind.
This song and 'The Pot' are my favorites from Tool.
My favorite reaction to Tool 🤘🏽 thank you David
Do wings for Marie part one and two next
11:40 - The anticipation.
12:22 - The release.
Bummer you've been given a link to a video with terrible audio again. This seems to happen with all of the songs I like the most. Check out the official version, if you haven't already.
Yeah, the sound is a total mess. 😢
For sure, when Parabola kicked it it just didnt hit as hard. Not near as 'crisp'
True, but at least he got a link that had both songs back to back. I hate it when channels put up just Parabol or Parabola and then they wait weeks in between...
The coin is right 🤷😁
Driving down the road one day and these came on. I had tears streaming down my face, for what reason I didn’t know. It these songs. They are absolutely amazing❤
These two songs have the best transition in music to this day-!
The songs split at the kick actually, where you had that perfect pause!
Parabola without Parabol is like hearing Living Loving Maid without Heartbreaker first.
You ever hear 'the happiest days of our lives" on pandora and the song ends without going into "another brick in the wall pt. 2"... its maddening.
Pain is an illusion…
My favorite song of all time. I'm at work and I can't wait to watch this!
Best pause ever.
There is a great live video of this, Maynard who was sick, looses it and couldn't continue and the rest of the band turns it into a jam. Danny particularly going off like a beast to fill in.
ruclips.net/video/jUkDMv6mGBs/видео.html 07:10 mark. Maynard stops and the band takes over. The audience fills in the vocals. Even the best have bad nights.
I've never heard of any Tool fan who listens to just one or the other. It's just not humanly possible.
"It was a fast gradual"... Tool finds a way to make opposites merge lol
@danjumahakibu I've reported this account for impersonating David's channel and spamming/scamming with links off-site.
Always interesting to hear your thoughts and technical knowledge various songs. i shall hit the like now
Love your vids man, I know you don’t give 10’s and perhaps it’s because you don’t take lyrical content in account when making your ratings, I don’t know, but for me they lyrics make this a 10. I receive a beautiful message from this song and it really is (for me) perfect. Again, great vids man.
I love your reactions. Enthusiastic and also musically correct. The perfect listener for bands like tool
It’s like salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly, bread and butter, you gotta do them together !!!
Those last few guitar notes are an homage to Roundabout by Yes… 🤘🏻
If you like this song I think you'd enjoy their song Stinkfist too.
These songs were amazing
Уже завариваю кофе.
23:14 - Actually they said this is in 9/8, 8/8, 7/8...
987 .. Part of the Fibonacci.. ;D
Tool having a difficult time writing a song in 4/4 is analogous to David having a difficult time finding where Parabol ended and Parabola began! I'm thinking to myself, IT'S RIGHT WHEN IT POPS OFF! 😆 I do say that in jest and certainly not as a slight, rather, as a compliment. Your ability to understand the DNA of music is incredibly polished and I'm thinking your complex analysis and understanding might be clouding the simplicity filter that us layman folk use. 😁 Great reaction though, loved hearing your assessment!
Loved yr reaction
The coin is right. Is at the swelling where one song ends and the other starts. I need that coin. 😄😄
Please ask the coin if I'm going to hit the Lotto .
The band initially wrote the 2 tracks together as 1 composition of music. They also did the same thing for the "Holy Trinity" (Disposition/Reflection/Triad) on the Lateralus album.
Not a very sexy story, but Tool always had 100% creative control and freedom with their label. The only 'real' structure of a contract was that they needed to deliver as least "10 tracks" for it to fulfill a full-length album. They did make a compromise to "section" full songs into individual tracks... they also were limited to radio airplay and length of their songs in the late 90s/early 2000s. In choosing singles for the release, it boiled down to Schism and Parabola having the better odds of airplay.
PS - "Ticks & Leeches" is not about the record label. Tool has always had 100% creative control over what they do.
the coin knows lol. good stuff sir. enjoy ur content
It was worth it!😂
13:00 -
Great song and reaction.
Coin was correct
23:00 -
I hate it when amazon music plays parabol. I get into it and forget that I've got it on shuffle and when it ends something that's not parabola plays. It's happened multiple times and it never stops being disappointing.
So what was the score? I watched it all (albeit with a child screaming at me)
Jumped on it straight away 😂
*Edit I got the score at the end. 😁👍
The coin is correct
10:45 That sounded like a Dies Irae quote (plus the very cool delayed resolution).
The end of the first song is that tiny build up. If you would have done them separately as it would have started right when the heavy part kicked in. Like right away. Would have felt like a jump scare or something.
Yay!!! A delayed gratification shout out. 🤘Reaction vid or not I was just hoping you'd hear it one way or the other. One of only 3 songs I can think of that not drop D. I guess you'd call this B/E, Prison Sex is drop B and Maynard's D*(k is actually in standard. Someone correct me if I've missed another anomaly.
I have a feeling that if you would have listened to more than Undertow way back when, TOOL would have ranked up there with one of your favorite bands!
The hits on the harmonics are the best for me. I don't know why...but, hitting the harmonics on guitar or bass, something about it just I like.
"This more has a feel of Perfect Circle." *cackles laughing*
The coin knows all
Long live the coin of truth!
Now we're just waiting for the holy trinity (disposition, reflection and triad)
The swell was the separation
9 m9nths so far so good
The tuning of this one is a bit unique. Similar to the drop B variation used on their song Prison Sex (BADGBE), and on Soundgarden's song Rusty Cage. Alter Bridge also use this tuning a lot, but a half step down (A#G#C#F#A#D#).
With Parabol and Parabola, E is tuned down to B. The unique part comes when A is tuned down to E. (BEDGBE). I'm not sure if anybody else has used this tuning.
Love these! I highly recommend Cheating the Polygraph (live) from Porcupine Tree ….
I heard tool said they release porcupine tree albums - this beginning track is very much like them though tool are more aggressive and moody while PT are more overwhelming and emotionally changing. Different sides of the same rocking coin.
@@FoxUnitNell agree!
HEY!! I'm back again! ;)
'Cos I so ENJOY your reaction for this! :)
.
I can't give you another like, but I can give you another view and comment. :)
