Hello. Thank you for your videos, they are very good. I have a question. What would cause my JD z425 to not start easily? It starts to make popping sounds when in choke. If I continue to try in choke, I drain the battery… if I take choke off, it might start but if I turn it off, then it won’t start up again. We’ve changed out literally every part so far. What do you suggest?
Hi thanks for subscribing while your here.. I am always here to help people through a problem.. so lets start with a list of the parts you have replaced so far. then I can help you narrow things down
@@MunkyWrench hi thanks for replying. We replaced the starter and flywheel because they were broken. We replaced the battery, solenoid , fuses, seat safety and brake safety and the ignition starter. Originally the mower once it started, would die when the brake was released. The ignition starter replacement finally fixed that issue. We had a maintenance done on it.. new fuel filter, fuel pump carb cleaned etc. one thing they did was remove the fuel shut off solenoid? And replaced it with a bolt. They did install a shut off valve so we can drain in the winter. Next step is to blow out fuel line to see if something is stuck… would hate to buy more parts but just can’t figure this thing out.
@@makingmorezeros ok as my 1st wife would say.. big red truck.. meaning thats not right.. replacing the fuel solenoid on the carb with a bolt may be your issue. the way that solenoid works.. when you turn the key to run position it puts power to the plunger and retracts or opens it.. and when you turn the key off it releases it allowing it to plug the jet and stop the flow of fuel.. if you removed it and put a bolt in instead its most likely stopping the fuel from flowing correctly which is why it will start sometimes after a while .. its not letting enough fuel by. we just remove the solenoid and using wire cutters remove the plunger then put it back on.. so no obstruction .. I would bet dollars to pesos that's your problem. I would say before you go any further replace that solenoid even with the old one if you still have it after cutting off the plunger tip. the other thing it could be 2nd choice is the fuel vacuum line that runs from your valve cover to your fuel pump.. if it is cracked or dried out it won't work correctly. I just did a video on that problem a few weeks ago on a troy built zero. let me know if either of those are the problem or if you need help finding parts..
Thanks for the video! If everything that you explained is connected and not broken. Could there be something else causing it to not move? I was mowing and it stopped and it seemed that the left one got stiffer than the right. Thanks
All of a sudden stopped. Was mowing everything working fine and then stopped. After it stopped is when the one handle became stiffer. Thanks for the reply
@@keithmarkey9723 sorry I have to ask several questions to get a general idea.. you say one side got stiff and wont move.. that means you can go outside right now ... start it up and push the lever on the other side and it should spin in circles right?
@keithmarkey9723 the levers each have their own pump..in other words they work independently but together. The pump is connected directly to the lever and the 2 pumps only connect together by a belt underneath .. it sounds to me like u lost a belt or something mechanical underneath .. one of the pulleys that belt uses to connect the 2 pumps to the motor. There's 3 points of contact on drive belt plus an idler pulley on a spring. The belt goes around both pumps as well as the motor shaft. I would check that belt. It should be tight to the touch but springy if u push on it.. sounds like tension spring broke. Or a pulley is broke or belt is missing . Both pumps would not have immediately stopped at the same time. U have a better chance of winning lottery than 2 pumps going so check drive belt and tension. Sometimes I have to remove belt to find a broken pulley
Thank you for the video
Good to see you buddy
Awesome video, this explains the best way to work on and clean my John Deere zero turn. YOU ROCK!
Glad to have helped
Great video on how to work on the steering on a John Deere z.t.r mower Kelly 💪👍
Good to see you Robert
@@MunkyWrench same here Kelly 👍
U can fix any thing bro!!

Was it a gradual failure over the last few times you used it or was it fine and all of a sudden it stopped?

No problem. I should have stated it earlier. The mower will not move at all.
