  • Tapco SKS Magazine Modification for Disassembly
    Here is a vid showing how to disassemble a Tapco Magazine for a SKS. It's great to have the ability to take your magazine apart for cleaning especially because some 7.62x39 ammo is extremely dirty and corrosive. Hope this video helps. Cheers : )

    Thanks very much. Tapco / Remington said it wasn't recommended to take apart as you could damage or break it. Probably their protective response. This worked great as you described. Now it is easy to disassemble for cleaning.

    Just cleaned three of my Tapco restricted 20 round to 5 round mags..brand new never out of the plastic but cleanliness is next to Godliness! lol. I'm in South Carolina USA so I am not restricted anyway but your vid was very helpful in restoring the mags to capacity. Might have to order 4 or 5 more mags to clean now lol.

    Nice vid. I just ordered a couple of these mags & living in CT, we can only have 10 rnds. Same deal I'm sure with them being pinned. I was trying to imagine how I was going to clean them out or replace a spring or was I going to have to toss them out. Thanks for the service tip.

    Mine doesn't have one of those plugs but it's got a rivet in the side of it? Makes it difficult for cleaning because I cant get the spring out without drilling the rivet

    Pretty sure we all think Canada's laws on mag limits are retarded. yet we all still follow them because we are the finest canadains out there. even pedophiles don't get harrassed as much as us but we love firearms so we suffer.

    What about the Tapco 20 round mags in Canada that have a visible silver rivet through the sides of the mag.? Will this method still work with that style?

    • @winnipegjohnston
      @winnipegjohnston  10 лет назад

      I haven't come across the style you speak of. If the bottom of the magazine looks the same I'd take a guess that it would work. Although to have complete access to the magazine for cleaning I'm assuming you would have to drill out that rivet.

    • @mikeyashawasegai9388
      @mikeyashawasegai9388 9 лет назад

      cant yoh just take them out? i own two but havent cleaned them lol that pin is just to keep you from putting more than five rounds but if you live in an an area with no such restrictions just drill the pin or dremmel it outta there

  • @orionrj16

    Im sure modifying the plug would help the mag hold more, though would the spring be sufficient enough to feed more than 5 rounds?

    • @winnipegjohnston
      @winnipegjohnston  11 лет назад +1

      Yup, the spring will feed 20 rounds no problem.

  • @hellzone102
    @hellzone102 11 лет назад

    So you still need the bottom of the pin in order for it to function?

    • @winnipegjohnston
      @winnipegjohnston  11 лет назад

      You would need the bottom plate portion after cutting off the plug for the spring to sit on.

  • @MrSnappyComeback
    @MrSnappyComeback 11 лет назад +1

    wont work on some on the later ones because of a bolt head under the pin

      MrSnappyComeback They literally put a metal pin on the side of my mags and its visible.. can't even pull the damn middle part out. Unfucking believable.. how the hell am I suppose to clean that shit? I got dirt build up and the thing barely moves.

    • @georgisgarage
      @georgisgarage 7 лет назад

      mrarmo13 oh man I just made a video about it. where my mag is pinned with a rivet through the side I can't even load the mag into the riffle if it has ammo in it. the bullets interfere because they can't slide down. bolt mod and I still need an open chamber to load a mag......

    Does this work with the steel floor ones? Is there only certain ones they work for because I have two, one had the steel floor plate with the plastic bottom which looks a lot like yours and the other has what appears to be just a plastic bottom. Doesn't look like you can slide it off at all like you did

    • @winnipegjohnston
      @winnipegjohnston  11 лет назад

      Not too sure to be honest. The only ones I've seen from Tapco are like the ones in this video.

    Canada regs
    not to be a legal keener, but
    laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-462/FullText.html
    (4) A cartridge magazine described in subsection (1) that has been altered or re-manufactured so that it is not capable of containing more than five or ten cartridges, as the case may be, of the type for which it was originally designed is not a prohibited device as prescribed by that subsection if the modification to the magazine cannot be easily removed and the magazine cannot be easily further altered so that it is so capable of containing more than five or ten cartridges, as the case may be.
