I know a guy they had an SKS and he lost it out of the boat in the river and they couldn't find it a year later there was a real hard drought and the river dried up and they found it all they did was cleaning and oiling and it still shoots perfectly that made me very impressed
I don't argue with you My thoughts are practicality and simplicity. And not wasting money on rifles that shoot the same round. The AK and AR platforms are solid and great to own. AR can be teched out 12 ways from last Monday. My uncle has 3k invested in 6.5 creedmoor ar style rifle
@@thedamddino4893 yeah their dogshit, if you can’t have 30 rounds and a detachable magazine on an AR or AK why would you even buy one. Besides I already really like the mini14/m14 guns, no need to get something fancy that will blow the bank
I wish it was still 2020 ... I bought the last of 7.62 and bulk 22 lr from our local distributor . I was told he will buy anything he can get but the price will double😳
Don’t forget he said “ now that the election is over “. He means , when trump was elected the prices were fair. This ridiculous excuse for a government now is why these prices have skyrocketed. Don’t blame a sickness, the sickness is in office….
I have a mini 14 , I've had no problems with it and I find it's accuracy good . Plus it's not a scary looking rifle so the snow flakes out there don't pee their pants when they see it as often as some of the other semi auto's .
I am a fairly new shooter. The first riflery class I took was a Project Appleseed class. That is exactly how they teach people to shoot, especially when he was using the sling with the SKS. I don't have a military or LEO background so that was quickest, most affordable way to get some rifle training. But it's basically pre-WWI training.
Owned them all, only one I had a few failures with was the Areo Precision AR. My Mini, AK, and SKS eat any ammo, rain, snow, hot, or cold. My AR well it's for sale lol
@@kyleminks6374 and the ak isn’t? I have watched multiple torture test from garandthumb and other channels and every single one, the AK failed and the AR blazed through without an issue. Ak=loose tolerances let’s stuff in. Great for artic environment. Ar=tight tolerances and everything is sealed up nice and tight which is why is does so well environmentally, except below freezing temps. 8 years in the infantry, 3 in law enforcement and 2 as a firearms instructor so that’s my credibility. But a smart man would buy both lol. I love both for sure
@@rob-8742 Mini 14's are good was my first rifle but i moved on to the M1A1 Springfield great for reaching out and sometimes you need to shoot through things, also worst case scenario the weight and bayonet I put on it makes it a hell of a spear
@@rob-8742 sks was my first rifle. I sold it years ago. I just bought one today for 275 and it takes mags. So did the other one. I love em. I have all but the mini. And the sks is prolly my fav to shoot.
@@auttoar1515 hello id love to find where you are buying a rare sks sporter, M's, or Navy's, ect.. for $275 in fact what model sks are you getting for 275? matching numbers?
Its pretty much the same thing as a mini 30, except cheaper and more common. I would say prob better because of the price point, can put a tactical stock and 30 round mags on it. Also look into the sks that take ak mags, they exist.
@ADMIN um, buy it cheep, drive it till it dies and send it to the crushers. Through away car-- like the sks. There is a reason we used to buy them new for 99.00 (and 50 year olds remember buyng them new for 69.00 in shot gun news).
The SKS is cheap commie gun. I have a Russian one. It never jammed, never malfunctioned. Ever. Even with shitty Chinese surplus ammo. Good up to 200 yards, but after that pretty much useless. It's a conscript gun fodder cheap carbine, but it works. It goes boom when you pull the trigger. Not very accurate. Too many parts though. For the price, that's a lot of gun for your money.
@Samsung McKone Because that's what standard ballistic charts and expert reviews say. Just look it up. The 5.56X45 has much higher muzzle velocity than a 7.62X39 cartridge. This has always been common knowledge. That's the only reason I brought it up.
The AK in battle is a beast and can shoot in any conditions without cleaning for weeks, first hand experience with almost all those weapons! I choose AK
When I servered compulsory military service in Poland (they used to take all boys to army), we took part in military exercises and it rained for days. My Ak got so dirty and rusty that i couldn't reload with my hand, so I kicked the bolt like it was a motorcycle starter and it fired perfectly. Excllent weapon..
What about the durability of the machined parts of the SKS vs the stamped steel and "plastic" or the others.... I would rather have a bit heavy rifle that would last since...well just shortly after WWII, than some of the newer weapons that though lightweight might be not as robust. Thoughts? Even that fact that you "had" to throw in the SKS is a testament to its longevity and its durability. Should of also done a field strip comparison. Most SKS guys can break theirs down....if trying...in well under a minute....clean and reassemble...in another "minute". I really dont know what it takes to field strip and clean the other three...(might nice for a nice follow up video to this one)....;) Thanks for the comparison, none the less...
I take it it is the only weapon you ever owned that shit is put together with scrap. I take you never fired an AR 15 chambered in .458 SOCOM now that is fun just makes goosebumps run up my spin. 325 grain bullets! This guy has nothing but junk including the off the shelf assembly line AR in standard .223/5.56 maybe unless it is a 223 wylde if not don’t use 5.56.
Mini 14s are great, I have a 180GF and 181 ranch series in my collection. I also have a yugo A1 SKS with all matching numbers. I picked it up for around 60.00 USD back in the day. You can still find inert WWII 20mm rifle grenades for it and it's quite fun to fire.
Ah yes, heavy outdated weaponry that was outdated when it was originally issued to put your life on. Also shittiest triggers and magazines of the bunch.
I have an ak and 2 ar's, I'd take either 1 over any other rifle under $2k. The only other sporting rifles I'd consider would be the FAL or SCAR 17. The SKS is ok but the AK is superior in every way.
@@boomerisadog3899 Not accuracy, and the sks is a more comprehensive platform for survival, due to the not needing a separate mag to load more than one round of loose ammo, also its cheaper. But man every other way the AK is sooo much better, and you could always get a longer barrel to fix the accuracy a tad!
@@lweatherford9225 I've never seen any proof that the sks is more accurate. If you know of any tests that show this I'd be interested to see them. Idk about you but I always carry extra mags. If I ever needed to load a single cartridge I don't think it'd take much longer to take the mag out, load it, and put it back in. Honestly, I don't see that ever being an issue in the field.
@@boomerisadog3899 You can get removable SKS mags in 5 and ten round sizes. I live in a 2nd Amendment constitution violating area. Any glance from a busybody snowflake and I'm legal. Large capacity is only a click away.
The choice for me is between the SKS and Mini-14. I live in Canada, so sadly AKs are out of the question altogether and while there are a shitload of ARs up here as well, they are subject to much stricter regulations than other long guns (like only being able to shoot them on a federally certified range). I would go with the SKS myself because they're dirt cheap here (they usually average around $200) and everyone and their dog has one here.
If you get an SKS, I suggest a TAPCO Stock, makes a world of difference and you can still keep the factory 10 round stripper loaded mag with the TAPCO Stock. I removed the 10 round factory set up and I installed a TAPCO 20 round removable magazine and a steel 30 shot magazine. I load the 20 round mag with 20 rounds and when those 20 rounds are gone I reload with stripper clips. I have the steel magazine in case the plastic TAPCO magazine wears out. Can't remember how long I've had my SKS been a long while though.
I've have or had every gun in this video and the most reliable shooting gun is the SKS had a mini 14 jammed all the time got rid of it and will never own another. But I'm fixin to get me another SKS and I want a paratrooper SKS. I like the 10 round clips there attached so they don't come out and you lose them
Out of all these rifles, I decided to get one sold to me as a Russian SKS, but it turned out to be a Chinese military model from 1958. It's my first non-.22 LR rifle and a ton of fun at the range. My only real gripe about mine is the previous owner did shoddy work on it. They replaced the wood stock with a broken folding stock that's fading, left the wood on the gas tube, installed a scope mount with mismatched screws, and gave it a rusty 30 round metal magazine that fits poorly. So I'm changing their work for my own stuff. Got a collapsible stock and new 20 round magazines, and I'll give it a new scope mount, sling, and red dot optic. Thankfully no cosmoline in this one, but it was filthy when I stripped it to see the condition of the inside. Guess this is what you get for buying a cheap one at a gun show.
I haven't checked Remington's 7.62x39, but you should check to make sure they're using hard primers like the Eastern Europeans do. All my Russian made ammo is Berdan primed. We tend to use softer primers and that may increase the risk of a slam fire (though probably not a runaway slam fire, which is the worst case scenario).
I own all and put thousands of rounds through each. If shit went South I would probably take my SKS. I have a Norinco and it shoots exceptionally accurate. Never had a jam and has a good trigger. Very tough /reliable rifle. Now I would pick my FN Fal if it was on the list.
I think in a survival situation .223/5.56 would be easier to come across in the US. Obviously a shotgun with chamber inserts would allow you to scrounge whatever but would have a terrible rate of fire.
LOLOLOL, same.... when it started to bug me, and i kept watching his elbow... i paused the video to see if comments were talking about it. LOL. Edit : man, i keep watching the video... and now i feel like giving him a small left hook in the ribs. LOL
Same here lol, I used to do it when I first started shooting my AR my buddy told me that makes a very good Target when you're in a gunfight so I had to train myself to hold the elbow down
I am by no means an avid rifle shooter, I dont own any and I have only fired 1 and it was an AR15 and even I saw his damn chicken wing out there and it bothered the fuck out of me 🤣
You were not fairly representing the SKS. If you are going compare rifles accurately you should cover all aspects. You didn't test ammo, and it's reliability in each rifle. You didn't mention the Mini-30. The Mini 30 has serious issues with steel case ammo, and the SKS will fire anything reliably. I own all of these rifles, and have for many years. The AK, and SKS are far more reliable than the others. They require less care to shoot. The SKS has a longer barrel making it little more powerful than the AK, and the SKS has a longer site base making it more accurate than the AK.
1. I would love to have the budget to do what you are suggesting 2. I didn't mention the mini 30, I don't feel it's as popular as these rifles 3. I gave an honest take on all the rifles, they are all decent, pick the one you like that meets your criteria
The Patriot Communicator Thanks to us ex yugoslavian people (im croatian) you are able to have a lot of fun with this gun were you dont have to take care about anything. :)
I have a Yugo SKS that I love. I've fired Chinese made SKS's and I think the Yugo's are just made better. I've fired AK's and I prefer my SKS to the AK. I find it to be more accurate than the AK. There are after market parts and mags you can buy to make your SKS "tacti-cool". As for the slam fire issue, you can buy after market firing pins with a spring that can eliminate that issue. I just opt for properly maintaining and cleaning my rifle. You may run into some people that claim you never have to clean an SKS but they're just wrong. WRT to the stripper clips. It all boils down to practice. I've seen RUclips videos of people running an SKS with stripper clips incredibly fast. I'm getting better with more practice myself. One thing that might help you load stripper clips faster is to pull up slightly on the nose of the top round when pushing the rounds into the attached mag. Ammo options perhaps not as many as the .223/5.56 but you still have options and you can get hunting rounds. I hunt deer with my SKS.
I have used an Yugo SKS for decades. It has never screwed up. But, I do disassemble it and clean it after each use. They have a firing pin that doe snot have a return spring, so if you let the bolt assembly get dirty, the pin can stick and cause slam fires. But, that is usually due to lack of proper cleaning.
And when acquiring an SKS, it is wise to disassemble the bolt, remove the firing pin, and clean out the channel. Old cosmoline gumming up the channel is the usual culprit for slam fires. Most people just spray some brakleen but full disassembly always result in cleaner parts.
My favorite is the mini 14. Its just fun to shoot. I bought the sks as a impulse purchase purely for the bayonet. It's rough, but for 300 I cant complain
I own several AR15s , a few AKs and a few SKSs . Love them all . My SKSs are Norinco chrome lined barrels . They shoot as well as the others and take the duckbill mags with no issue .
My grandmother just passed away and IV had a few beers and I have about 1/4 of a can of Copenhagen in my lip right now. @@alundavies8402 can't believe it's been almost a year and a half. Thank you and I do, she was a leather worker and I have a knife sheath and rifle sling she made, now whenever I go hunting or working in the woods I have a small piece of her with me.
I have the mini and an AR sbr. They are both great rifles. The ARs are fun to customize and are an excellent value. But there is just something about the Mini 14 that appeals to me. I like the old school Garand action with the rotating bolt and the feel of a traditional style stock. Reliability is rock solid and accuracy is more than adequate for my needs. I wish they were priced more comparable to the ARs. But like you, I found a good deal online. Still well worth the money for an enthusiast like me. I sort of want an AK just to say I have one but can't really bring myself to do it. I enjoyed the video.
I agree! More reliable with open bolt and Piston driven Garand action and less finicky! It'll shoot 2 in to 2 1/2 in groups with Tula or Match Grade 4 times as long between cleanings compared to an AR IF NEEDED!!!
Samsung McKone you are very correct about that .. I live on several acres in a rural area but there are homes within visual distance.. I would never want to harm an innocent.. as a matter of fact my home shotgun is a Mossberg 590 .. great weapon .. maybe I need to put the Mini 14 away and bring out the Mossberg
I'll have to agree with the rest of the comments. The SKS is great. They are fun to shoot, dependable and more accurate than an AK. Bigger round than the AR or Mini. I would honestly prefer the SKS in a combat situation.
In semi auto fire cause to accuracy it is easier to hit the aim or the enemy at the first shot with the Ruger but in real combat situation I would prefer the ARs.
I would probably personally choose the AR-15 but I would never discredit the SKS it is a wonderful very reliable accurate and I like mine really well. You can always count on an SKS working every time.
I bought an SKS back in 1999 at a gun show for $80. I got lucky, it is a 1951 White Star stamped, Russian SKS. I converted it to use AK mags. It is accurate as any eastern block weapon I have ever owned. We shoot it every week end and I only clean it once a year. I wish I had bought ten.
Had a sks that spent more time in the rice paddies than above the water. The wood had a few worm holes . The tip of the barrel had rust. The bore was bright crome. Shot like a new rifle.
I’ll take my sks over any other rifle in a SHTF scenario. It’s tough as hell and accurate enough to be effective. 7.62x39 is also a fairly common caliber even in the US so ammo shouldn’t be hard to find.
Also you can load loose ammo after the 9th round through the. magazine well just put them in side to side lock magazine in place. Just remember put safety on you have live round chambered. Can last as long you have ammo. The others you have to reload magazines unless you have a ton of magazines or a few 4o,6o,75,or 100 rounders. Just remember you have to carry all that extra weight. This is another way if they're not on stripper clip. This is what the old timers in the backwoods do.
Come to the UK they won't even let u own an air rifle shooting over 12 ft pounds.....I love guns always have us brits I feel have a plumb up there arse n bee in bonnet about all firearms yet in criminality its illegal guns being accessed n used so why fkin penilise normal law abiding and gun loving citizens??? I believe in the 2 nd amendment but for the UK lol it don't exist but in my mind it does lol
dal the entire reason Americans even have guns is because of the British. The British actually not only allowed the American Colonies to have guns but thought it was Necessary. By letting the Americans have guns, that meant the British empire didn’t have to spend as much money having thousands of British soldiers defending the Americans from the natives and other threats.
dal the 280 Endfield / 280 British also should have been NATO’s universal caliber not the 7.62x51 or 308 Winchester. The 280 British had greater range than the 7.62x39 and greater knock down. It was also very easy to control on Fully-Automatic, however the 308 wasn’t.
Zastava mean actually flag. Complete name of factory is "crvena zastava" mean red flag. The factory still exist an make firearms. Locking bolt in rear position isnt rifle mechanism. It is just magazin option made by Crvena Zastava and fit on all AK platform. Purpose is not fast reload, rather to stay open bolt to cool dovn barel. And this type magazin is made for military only.
I've had them all. I know I'm setting myself up but the truth is, I'll take the SKS over any of them. They are not all alike but the right one beats all the rest.
Actually they are used as service weapons. Aks are used in foreign countries around the world and the ars are service weapons for the us military. National guard uses them but main corps use the auto m16s. The mini m14 was modeled after the m1 grand which was used in the following world wars. The sks was used too.
No reason not to own all of them. Why does it always have to be a question of "either/or"? As far as the SKS is concerned, I've had a Norinco since '91 and shot thousands of rounds through it with absolutely zero misfires or misfeeds. It's rock solid reliable. Rock. Solid.
I love my mini 14. Tough as nails and I shoot 5 inch groups at 150 yards with it. I understand the older ones had accuracy problems but mine is spot on. Only complaint I have is the mags are expensive and hard to find compared to ar mags
Yes mini all the way. I grew up with dads SKS he brought back from Vietnam and it was tight nice gun but only strip fed ( no mags). I sold my AR and now have two minis ( 556 & 300 blackout) . But I was biased already as my m1 carbine is my favorite auto rifle and minis are very similar to m1 even though I know modeled after m14 etc.
Up here in Canuckistan, SKS's are cheap as dirt and everyone owns a least a couple. I myself have a 1950 Tula and a Chinese one. Might get another to dope it out. Not allowed AK's and ARs are a restricted class (bulls*t). Mini 14 and Mini 30 are a good choice for us as well. The mini's are a good alternative to the AR because of the restricted status (minis are non-restricted). The good thing about the SKS is that you can abuse the sh*t out of it and it just keeps working. Good vid, thanks.... For price comparison. No AK, AR= $700-$1500, mini $1000-$1300, SKS $200-$300.
Semi's "generally" require the same licensing as a regular bolt or pump. They are limited to a 5 round capacity (though there are small loopholes to double that amount in certain circumstances). Our laws are a little retarded when it comes to "types" of guns. Its not that they are any more "dangerous" than others we're allowed, its that they scare people (thanks to gun grabbing politicians with the help of a controlled MSM). So, things that are based on an AR platform have further restrictions (even if its a .22) than a regular gun and things like AK's are prohibited because they are the go to gun for terrorism (F*ck me). Interesting enough, the Tavor, CZ858, XCR, M14 and a boatload of others can be had with just the basic license (like the above mentioned bolt action/pump), don't ask me "why". We're not as bad as Commiefornia though or the UK/Australia (or should I say Commonwealth countries). Overall, we're still "allowed" some fun, but, after this Vegas crap, who knows? The gun grabbers are having a field day criminalizing law abiding citizens while doing nothing to combat real crimes. A regular license allows you to throw your gun in the trunk and go shooting where its legal to do so (ranges/private land/crown land). A restricted only allows at gun ranges (all pistols/AR) and prohibited allows you to own (though they don't issue those licenses anymore) and wish you could go shoot them. Those licenses are slowly disappearing as those specific gun owners age and pass on. Then the government confiscates them. Thanks god we've got the government to take care of us and keep our streets safe. What a joke.....
@@jsslandro Was trying to decide whether or not to go with an AR or Mini 14. Regardless of whether or not Ruger fixed the accuracy issue, which seemed to center around their barrel design, the stigma of my previous experience would still be there. Since then I decided on the AR and am very satisfied. Thanks.
Good video ! I, too, have sold my AR 15 and settled on the SKSs both: (Chinese & Yugoslavian), I own two as well as a mini 14 just like the one shown. The new Mini 14 is unquestionably more reliable, accurate, better built than any AR sold on the market. count me in.
Ed Stallion WELL SAID SIR! 👍👏🤝 I been trying to tell em that the mini is a tight machined beast. Very accurate. Even the 180- serial number models are very accurate with the Accu-strut. Even gets thru string fire with the hot barrel no problem. I'm looking for an SKS too. They seem to be pretty bad ass weapons with extraordinary longevity. ✌️
The AR has a lot less reciprocating components, lot less mass moving along the barrel, can be free floated. Rugers pretty shitty and a lot of critical components have to be factory fitted. Spare AR barrel's are as close to self headspacing as you can get. Bolts can be dropped in for the most part unline any of the other listed rifles. Barrels are no problem to install without power tools. The AR is way more accurate, and equal if just a basic build. I don't know what sort of drug you're on, but the mini 14 is at the best equal for almost twice the price.
Mini-14: "The big drawback with this particular gun is that the mags are a little bit expensive." SKS: "The big drawback with these is they feed from stripper clips... Stripper clips are easy to find, they're cheap, they're a buck or two."
Zastava are legends they opened their own facilities here in the US and started importing and doing all the regulatory modifications them self's on actual gunsmithing lathe's and not some buba with a dremel.
@Nikola Poiukov KilletKod is right about the price. if you piece the psa together it would cost about 4 to 500 depending on which upper or lowr you buy. I got my psa premium m4 style ar15 for around 470, 8-900 is waaay too much for a psa. That is as much as my spikes and bcm.
You did not explain how the SKS is the most accurate of the 4., and for home defense, no need for even having to fire it, the bayonet does more damage, and will get the job done. No need to have cartridges for close range protection.
The Mini 14 does actually have options if you get the tactical version. I have the Mini and the Ruger 5.56 AR and enjoy them both. Tapco makes probably the best after market 30 round mag for the Mini.
I picked up a tapco gen 3 and it liked to bind and not feed after a few rounds. Took it apart and sprayed drilube in the body and it seems much better, have not used it enough since to be 100% confident in it. Will have to try it some more
@@carnissan6728 I have a good SKS Norinco that is available, with all matching nos. Found manual and printed it out. Have rare Mass pre-ban 20 round mag. 10 round is installed. Some spare parts. Looking for $375 for everything. Will ship rifle through FFL. Accessories and ammo by USPS. let me know by private message.
I found it funny that that after saying the mini 14 was probably not as accurate, it was the only one that you hit all of your targets on consecutive shots. I had a Romanian SKS and loved it. If memory serves, they were that last to manufacture it with the chrome lined barrel. I would love to have it back!
Had a Mini 30 and it fired 7.62x 39. Using Russian ammo every 2nd shot would fail. Had a stronger spring put in and the same failure to fire occurred. Took all the failures and put them in my SKS and they all fired. Soviet ammo for Soviet guns and American ammo for US guns. The only ammo in 7.62 that fired was American Wolf ammo brass cartridge but the cost was not .20 cents/ bullet but $1.00 per round. Can't shoot expensive ammo. I like my Simonov SKS cause it works everytime I pull the trigger. The cost for an SKS in Canada is about $250. Yes they come covered in cosmoline but they are 60 year old rifles that have just sat there for decades. The problem with slam fires are caused by a rusting firing pin that has frozen in the forward position.. Check it before you shoot it to be sure the pin flops back and forth if you shake it. America has banned the import of these rifle so you will have to find a used one. Correct me if I am wrong. Buy one if you can. The cheapest AR 15 up here is the Smith and Wesson MP 15 Sport 2 for about $700. That is Canadian $. The reviews on this rifle are excellent. I would like to own that but still will keep my Simonov because it is reliable, affordable and shoots straight.
Thanks for the tip. I sold the mini 30 cause I was so pissed at its failure rate. I have never heard of a longer pin for the mini 30. I was assured that a stronger spring would do the trick but it didn't You must have a good rifle if it fires 7.62x39. Is it Soviet ammo or is it American. You say you use steel case but where is it made. Thanks for saying hello.
The SKS stripper clips are some of the easiest to use, and single loading in those is super simple too. I like all the models in this videos, but for ease of acquisitions (not price) the Mini 14 and SKS in my area are the best choices. I have both, love both. I actually sold my AR15 to get the Mini 14 - The 7.62x39 ammo is cheaper than AR ammo in my area as well.
Same here. Paid for ar 15 . But traded and paid a little more for the mini 14. Best decision I made as a first time gun owner . Sks also is my favorite
I’d definitely take the sks my 16in paratrooper is more light and portable than any of the rifles and the build quality , reliability, durability and accuracy definitely stand up to the competition , despite the fact that they are more dated they support all sorts of tactical modifications without damaging the original rifles ,and on top of that it’s still more affordable then the competition , I know the prices have really jumped but I’m still seeing sks’s in great shape at gun shows for no more than 350$
This was incredibly helpful. I live in California and I’m looking for a great first rifle. I think I’m going to get an AR. Thank you for the info! You’ve earned yourself a subscriber.
I live in California too. I would get an AR as well if I didn’t have to choose between a fin or a fixed mag. I might have to go with that mini 14 or 30. God Bless and stay safe!
I got my grandpa's sks he bought back in 1950 it's never been shot or even taken out of the original box I dont plan to take it out of the box. The mini14 is one of my favorite guns I own
At Palmetto State Armory you can get a freedom series AR15 for $350 if you buy the upper and lower separately. The same AR15 that passed AKOU's 5000rd torture test.
Great video ... I like my Mini-14 with the Tactical stock as you can add things on rails, etc. My two brothers each have AK or AR and we all think either / or is good. Fun stuff. Side note is I have three stocks for a single Mini-14 and change them to suit mood that day. I prefer the natural wood one.
Bought sks in the great white north. $150 from army surplus store. Total bill was $300 after 2 cases of ammo. 1500 rounds. Opted for the after market clips. Works very well.
Lot of people knock the sks bc of the 10 round mag..but with just a little practice..you can feed constantly..and can carry alot of ammo ..I'm set up with a bandolier that holds 120 round and a strike hard butt pouch that holds 30 rounds..and that is traveling light..if I need more I could carry it but walking out the door with 150 rounds isn't too shabby.
I'm an SKS fan and I'll tell you why. I've owned 3 different AK-47 types, I used M16 and M4 in the military over 10 years and in war, and I've owned 2 SKS rifles. The AKs were ok, but not as accurate as I'd like. The M16/M4 shoot too small a bullet for my taste, and my SKS rifles always preformed great. True, you only get 10 rounds unless you use the clips for SKS, but you never have to worry about loosing mags. It has an internal mag that is just fine. It also has the spring loaded bayonet. It's the heaviest of these weapons, but that also helps reduce recoil and aids in breaking skulls and running that bayonet straight through a man if you run out of ammo. The only thing I don't like about SKS is the trigger pull. It has a very long trigger on them and there's no real way to fix that. This is my opinion and my two cents. Stay safe yall.
You stick your elbow up so high that it could reach your ear. They teach you not to do that in military anymore since it exposes your elbow to get shot when you otherwise could have avoided the bullet. I've never seen them stick the elbow up so high it could reach your ear though... made it seem like you're double jointed in the shoulder
personally, I enjoy shooting the ar, its extremely smooth and easy to keep on target when doing rapid fire. I can say the AK I have shot was a fun shooter but a bit tougher for me to hold on target as it felt clumsy (to me). I also like the sks and it was my favorite to shoot but I understand that its ammo capacity is not as great as the ar and ak. so I could argue "best gun" on any of these as all of them have some plus and minus points. I think it just boils down to the individual shooter preference. I was just thankful that I got to try all of the above on several occasions before I made a purchase decision.
I know a guy they had an SKS and he lost it out of the boat in the river and they couldn't find it a year later there was a real hard drought and the river dried up and they found it all they did was cleaning and oiling and it still shoots perfectly that made me very impressed
Gun nuts hate them but returning soldiers swear by them. That should say it all
I love the sks it's really accurate I paid $200 and got 1500 rounds of 7.62 x 39 for 300. Great gun
I've had an SKS almost 30 years and have used it hunting in all kinds of weather, it never failed to do the job asked of it.
Probably only had to replace the "furniture" (wooden stock). I'm pretty sure the wood wouldn't last too long submerged in lake or river water.
So he lost his guns in a boating accident?
The only logical choice is to buy one of each and be thankful if you live in a free state.

The choice for me is between the SKS and Mini-14. There are some AK type weapons that work mostly the same except some small differences and are (non)restricted depending on which one you get
If you get an SKS, I suggest a TAPCO Stock, makes a world of difference and you can still keep the factory 10 round stripper loaded mag with the TAPCO Stock.
Can't beat an SKS!!! Remington makes hunting rounds for them!

I think in a survival situation .223/5.56 would be easier to come across in the US. Obviously a shotgun with chamber inserts would allow you to scrounge whatever but would have a terrible rate of fire.
I guess it depends on what you are surviving. The Chinese/Russian invasion will leave plenty of 7.62x39 to use.

I appreciate your honest attempt at a fair review of these rifles from your perspective
1. I would love to have the budget to do what you are suggesting
2. I didn't mention the mini 30, I don't feel it's as popular as these rifles
3. I gave an honest take on all the rifles, they are all decent, pick the one you like that meets your criteria
The Patriot Communicator Thanks to us ex yugoslavian people (im croatian) you are able to have a lot of fun with this gun were you dont have to take care about anything. :)
Correct I shoot cheep surplus ammo for plinking and it's flawless shoots anything .
A decent AK can be every bit as accurate as an SKS and with ammo it likes just as accurate as many ARs.
They make better firing pins and spring for the Mini30 for steel cased from what I have read... I have no experience with them.
Yugo barrels aren't chrome lined.
@@Bearclaw_Jake I know,
I have used an Yugo SKS for decades. It has never screwed up.
But, I do disassemble it and clean it after each use. They have
a firing pin that doe snot have a return spring, so if you let the bolt
assembly get dirty, the pin can stick and cause slam fires.
But, that is usually due to lack of proper cleaning.
I' ve always soaked my sks bolts in clp after firing, never had problem
And when acquiring an SKS, it is wise to disassemble the bolt, remove the firing pin, and clean out the channel. Old cosmoline gumming up the channel is the usual culprit for slam fires. Most people just spray some brakleen but full disassembly always result in cleaner parts.

I have the mini and an AR sbr. They are both great rifles. The ARs are fun to customize and are an excellent value. But there is just something about the Mini 14 that appeals to me. I like the old school Garand action with the rotating bolt and the feel of a traditional style stock. Reliability is rock solid and accuracy is more than adequate for my needs. davidcbrainard well said sir. I agree. The 14 is the cream of the crop.

I agree! More reliable with open bolt and Piston driven Garand action and less finicky! It'll shoot 2 in to 2 1/2 in groups with Tula or Match Grade 4 times as long between cleanings compared to an AR IF NEEDED!!!
Agree .. in a multi-intruder home assault would reach for the Mini-14 or the AK-47 .. just trust them both the most after lots of firing

This is what the old timers in the backwoods do.

dal the entire reason Americans even have guns is because of the British.

I sold my SKS when I was young and dumb :(
Ramsey Hildebrand that's Wat I said I just bought one
Wait are you complaining about cleaning your weapon BEFORE you fire it?
I wanna collect them *all*
Always a good option
have all...best is ak.
They're not Pokemon
I'm working on that myself
buy em, collect em, trade em with your friends.
I've had them all. I know I'm setting myself up but the truth is, I'll take the SKS over any of them. They are not all alike but the right one beats all the rest.
I agree I have 2 one Russian and one Chinese . Russian is better made but both work well .
NONE OF THOSE ARE "SERVICE WEAPONS". except for the sks.
Semiautomatic ak's and ar's are used as service weapons, especially, ar's.
Actually they are used as service weapons. Aks are used in foreign countries around the world and the ars are service weapons for the us military. National guard uses them but main corps use the auto m16s. The mini m14 was modeled after the m1 grand which was used in the following world wars. The sks was used too.
@@kj6458 mini 14 is a mini M14.
You know the M1 Garand doesn't have a detachable magazine.
kev lar Did you read my comment? I said it was MODELED after the M1
@@kj6458 yes I read it and your statement is still inaccurate.
I was raised on 75$ sks's,,, definitely the best gun of the 4 you presented,, and I was not aware of the following that they have,,,, great guns
No reason not to own all of them. Why does it always have to be a question of "either/or"?
As far as the SKS is concerned, I've had a Norinco since '91 and shot thousands of rounds through it with absolutely zero misfires or misfeeds. It's rock solid reliable. Rock. Solid.
Red Scorpion 6 Noice
I've got 2 SKS's! Great weapon.
every guy should have at least two of these - and a ton of ammo
I have 2 as well! A newer Tapco stock and an old Norinco WWII stock
Same dude, I’m looking at more of them, I love the gun.
I was thinking about trading my SKS for an AK but am glad I didn’t.
I own an AR and an SKS. I love both, but my favorite for blinking is the SKS. I like the weight and rugged feel of it...
Hail, fellow Canuck. I love my SKS as well. My SVT-40 is nice too.
Canukistan....aVe is everywhere😊
Based on price up there the SKS is a great option
Its like a right of passage. Everyone owns at least one....
I Like The SKS Paratrooper To Me It Is A Big Caliber M 1 Carbine,But A Little Bit Heavy,Lov Both M-1 Carbine & SKS,Thank,Tn.
I'd take that Yugo into battle before that mini, that's for sure!
You mentioned the Mini 14 was less accurate than the AR. I thought the Mini 14's accuracy issue was improved with the new tapered barrel design.
I think a lot of the claims were shooter issues. But what do I know?
Trigger was improved as well.
@@azteacher26 I will stick with my AR.
The mini 14 is an accurate rifle. I grew up with one. The myth that they are innacurate is just nitpicking namby pamby.
I think the AR can be more accurate due to the lack of OpRod and better bolt lockup but I'm not shooting matches nor do I have a match AR
@Samsung McKone costlier though
Mini-14: "The big drawback with this particular gun is that the mags are a little bit expensive."
SKS: "The big drawback with these is they feed from stripper clips... Stripper clips are easy to find, they're cheap, they're a buck or two."
You can get after market 30 round mags, I have 2.
Or u can pop the magazine cover throw ten in, flip back and fire
Zastava are legends they opened their own facilities here in the US and started importing and doing all the regulatory modifications them self's on actual gunsmithing lathe's and not some buba with a dremel.
I have a Zastava M70 that I still haven't shot yet 🤦♂️
I love all these guns. But my favorite will always be mauser 8mm. KAR98, m48 any all doesn't matter. Can't really go wrong with any gun in this video.
Ah well said.
My first bolt , was a mosin m91/30...go figure
Really nice video. It’s crazy how things have changed some you released this as far as prices and availability!!
"An AR is gonna be cheaper than an SKS" ??? What drugs are you on bro?
If you build one yes
Brand new PSA AR15 as of today is $330 before transfer fee (129 lower + 199 upper)...so...Yeah. Used Yugo SKS same price or just a little more.
I got fiddy...where I go to buy this unicorn?
Here in America, I bought my S&W M&P 15 for 515$ and my Norinco SKS was 600$ they are hard to find here
@Nikola Poiukov KilletKod is right about the price. if you piece the psa together it would cost about 4 to 500 depending on which upper or lowr you buy.
The Ruger 10/22 was the second rifle I bought.
Will have to try it some more
Gun&ShotTV
I too have had the same issue but not with every mag. I used the dry lube has helped.
I couldn't decide which one I wanted, so I went online and ordered all 4 of them.
Don't know why the rag on SKS even tho he said he's not? Got mine in the late 80,s. Tagged a Deer in Nov 2019. Great investment.
which one should you buy the one that you can actually afford and works for you
That is always good criteria
Lost respect for ur opinion when u slated the sks, its a great die hard, rugged powerful rifle, prolly be my shtf choice
the SKS shares an advantage with the Mini if you live in a state like Cali-they are both legal with standard stock
And yet, some of us swear by the SKS today. I'd trade you any gun I had for an SKS today.
@@carnissan6728 I have a good SKS Norinco that is available, with all matching nos. Found manual and printed it out. Have rare Mass pre-ban 20 round mag. 10 round is installed. Original sights replaced with a red dot sight. But have original rear sight which can be easily installed for the red dot. Stripper clips, ammo carrier bib, sling. Some ammo, oil can. Some spare parts. Looking for $375 for everything. Will ship rifle through FFL. Accessories and ammo by USPS. let me know by private message.
@@erictwickler4247 that's a great deal. Do you still have the 20 round internal mag?
I literally bought an SKS for 375 right as SHTF a couple weeks ago
I found it funny that that after saying the mini 14 was probably not as accurate, it was the only one that you hit all of your targets on consecutive shots. I had a Romanian SKS and loved it. If memory serves, they were that last to manufacture it with the chrome lined barrel. I would love to have it back!
Norinco chromes the barrels. I have one. Some people think Norinco is a second class SKS, but I can’t tell one from the other, at the range.
I still have my 1967 /26\ arsenal SKS that I bought for about $69 in 1993. It's in original configuration, and is a fine weapon.
Get the mighty mini 👍
I have never had an issue using steel case ammo in my mini. I have heard that you can get a longer firing pin for the mini 30 that fixes the issue
Thanks for saying hello.
you don't need stronger springs to fire soviet ammo, you need a longer firing pin...
You vastly misrepresented the SKS
For war the sks for sure, most accurate and can be dragged through mud day after day and still keeps on shooting
Uh, yeah, about that.
The sks is by far the most rugged gun in this vid for ease of use and reliability
Agreed
There is no gun more rugged than an ak 47....yall need too stop
Stripper clips ...gtfoh
@@haitianjedi9411 The SKS is more rugged you need to learn. It not WAY mor but it has the edge.
I've got an SKS and used to have a Mini-14. Loved them both!
I’d definitely take the sks my 16in paratrooper is more light and portable than any of the rifles and the build quality , reliability, durability and accuracy definitely stand up to the competition , despite the fact that they are more dated they support all sorts of tactical modifications without damaging the original rifles ,and on top of that it’s still more affordable then the competition , I know the prices have really jumped but I’m still seeing sks’s in great shape at gun shows for no more than 350$
I have to disagree with you 6 years in the arny 1961 , 1967 we chose the SKS, AK over military issue, especially the m-14. Hello from Presidio,Tx
Quick answer: ALL OF THEM
Always a good option
This was incredibly helpful. I live in California and I’m looking for a great first rifle. I think I’m going to get an AR. Thank you for the info! You’ve earned yourself a subscriber.
I live in California too. I would get an AR as well if I didn’t have to choose between a fin or a fixed mag. I might have to go with that mini 14 or 30. God Bless and stay safe!
I got my grandpa's sks he bought back in 1950 it's never been shot or even taken out of the original box I dont plan to take it out of the box. The mini14 is one of my favorite guns I own
I love my SKS will not sell it. But I do wanna dabble into ARs
Anthony Barclay Get them while they are cheap and you still can.
I would say the striper clips can be loaded very quickly in my opinion it is faster than a mag for the sks
Next time you fill a stripper clip, slip a toothpick under the center spring. Yes they do load fast.
I'm takin' the AK and SKS
My first time shooting the AR-15 I was impressed with how low of recoil there was but was really loud!
And how do you figure that the most expensive of the four is the “cheapest”?
The sks
Picked mine up a year ago for $150 it's in perfect shape and runs very well
I own a mak90 an mini14 im still looking at the ar15 next i love all guns as long as they go bang
That is a good outlook!
Stay safe yall.
i have an AR and an AK already, sold the SKS, and just bought a mini-14.
I Have All That U Show,But My Favorite Is The AR 15,The Ak,The Min 14.Thank A Good Job,Tn.God Bless U.
AK and sks is a very reliable weapons, you can count on when there is a action .
personally, I enjoy shooting the ar, its extremely smooth and easy to keep on target when doing rapid fire.
That's where I am on it, just giving basics, each shooter will have their own "Best choice"
