  • I get a lot of questions about airbrushes, so I thought I'd take a second to show you a bit about mine. I'll show you how to clean an airbrush like mine, how to lubricate it for maintenance, and explain a little about each piece and what they do. Once we have it all back together, I'll also tell you a little about the main differences between different types of airbrushes and show you my hoses, regulator, and compressor. If you have any questions about the use of airbrushes, I'll be sharing some info on it in future videos, so I'll try to cover it then.

    Well I pulled mine apart completely for the first time after some model painting. Cleaned up nice and sparkly. Put it back together again and it didn't work. Scanned u tube and watched a couple of modellers and they didn't help. Stumbled across yours and saw your brush is exactly same as mine. Watched your tutorial and now it's working and adjusted as it should. Thanks for a very instructional vid. You saved me from embarrassment and asking my model outlet to put it back together. You get two Rambo thumbs up!!!

    I know this is an older video, but it was EXACTLY what I needed! I got my airbrush used from a friend, and after playing with it for awhile, I lightly cleaned it and packed it away. Fast-forward to a year later, I needed it for a project. Of course it didn't work properly because I hadn't cleaned it properly, but after pulling it apart and thoroughly cleaning it, I was baffled by the secondary lever guide, which fell out before I could see where it was. I also had the trigger in backwards.
    So, thank you SO MUCH for your clear, concise video on both cleaning and assembly! I'm definitely adding it to my favorites!

    I just bought one of these airbrushes. Seem to work well. Great video to learn how to care for the brush. I too use a large compressor and have quick connects all around. One note though... The Teflon tape should be yellow not white for air/gas lines. White is for plumbing!

    • @LomisPlayground

      Huh, I wonder if it varies by brand? The white teflon tape I got was stocked directly next to the air compressors to be used with them!

    • @VA7ACG

      @@LomisPlayground Pink, Yellow, Green, and White tapes are color coded by density... hence their different application. Pink is for higher presser water lines, white for domestic water lines ie: shower, sink etc. Green is for oxygen and medical gases. Good video. Using the big compressor, you still need to have your external regulator and water trap vertical to trap water. I just got an airbrush same one as yours. I started out in 1981, with a full size siphon fed gun for painting cars. Now I have a gravity feed HVLP gun too. Some 0-rings need silicone oil. Your Badger oil is a safe bet.
    Polyurethane automotive primer, paint and clear coat only need 28-34psi. Your big compressor is overkill. And yeah, you need to use that regulator so you don't blow up your airbrush. Working psi

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  3 года назад

      Oh yeah, the big compressor is way more than anyone would ever need for this. But since we already had it and I have the separate regulator and a regulator on the tank itself, it makes sense to use it... Plus, it has the great benefit of being able to fill up the tank and then get an hour or two of airbrushing work done after kids are in bed. I am sure my neighbors also appreciate me not running a compressor in the small hours of the morning!

    I wish I had found this vid before . I'm a newbie and I took my master airbrush completely a part after using it and broke the nozzle when reinstalling it . Live and learn . How often should you disassemble the gun completely to clean it everytime or occasionally . Thanks for the vid .

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  4 года назад +1

      Full disassembly isn't usually necessary--most of the time, I just run clean water or airbrush cleaner through after I'm done using it and then remove the needle so it can dry completely inside. I only do a full disassembly and cleaning like this every few months. Of course, if you're using your airbrush every day instead of just on weekends like me, you'd need to clean more often. And if any problems pop up along the way, cleaning never hurts!

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  4 года назад +1

      Mine does occasionally get stuck--since the edges of the lid are ridged, I usually grab it with a silicone potholder to improve my grip and pry until it eventually pops off. If the vent hole on top of the lid gets clogged with paint, it can create a bit of a vacuum too which makes it really hard to remove, so I keep a sewing pin handy to poke through and make sure it's not suctioned on.

      I do use teflon tape, actually, where needed. :) The rubber seals in the hoses I bought have been plenty for an airtight seal on the quick release and the smaller air hose--I use teflon tape to seal around the connections to my regulator, which is a leaky piece of junk I probably need to replace at some point.

      I appreciate it!! It's been a long time since I made this video so I realize I probably didn't mention anything about connections or seals. :)

      @@LomisPlayground Exactly I believe I stated that the video was old and I am sure you have learned much more since then. Again I wasn't trying to act is I knew more. I am a newby. I just got the G233, through amazon. So I will be looking at more of your videos.

    If you check this? I followed this video, put back together but in paint cup, it blows back not out??

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  4 года назад +1

      Blowback in the paint cup usually means a blockage in the nozzle, but it can also mean a seal isn't tight enough or the needle isn't pushed all the way in. It's hard to diagnose the issue without seeing it myself in person, but I'd take the nozzle apart and check carefully for blockages--it's okay to clean the metal parts of the nozzle with acetone if you don't see anything but suspect a blockage, just don't get it on the rubber gaskets or they'll turn brittle :)

    Great video! But now I'm totally intimidated to ever get one, they seem so complicated... XD

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  6 лет назад +3

      Haha XD They really aren't that bad. You usually won't have them this disassembled. Most of the time just cleaning the needle and nozzle and running cleaner through it is enough to keep it ship-shape :)

    You know, I use a 30 gallon professional compressor. It works as well but I have to use a male fitting. So all of you looking to get an airbrush to use with your compressor, BUY AN EXTRA HOSE THAT COMES WITH IT. The brass piece is 7 bucks on its own, so get the harbor freight hose. It comes with the adapter.

      It's airbrush lubricant, so it's made specifically for this :) Never had any problems!

      I'm glad you like it! My musician brother actually composed it exclusively for my videos. He titled the track "Distant" but I don't think he has it on Soundcloud since he made it specifically for me.

    Can you put the paint in the cylinder? Or do I need to buy a separate container? I'm using latex paint for a Michael Myers mask I'm making

    • @LomisPlayground
      @LomisPlayground  5 лет назад

      Since this is a gravity feed brush, the paint goes in the cylindrical cup on the top ^^ Just make sure the paint is thin enough!
