"if you're one that comes out and talks first and listens second, you'll be exposed." Loved that line. This was very interesting and persuasive.

Good point. Listen to your people, then lead. I enjoyed my finance experience during the cold war and desert storm era. Our best finance officers were the ones who listened to their NCO's and considered their advice before making important decisions. 🔶

I joined the national guard as a cook, and now I wish I would have gone active duty to start. I’m working on my Bachelors of Arts in business economics which I’ll be done with when my guard contract is done and I think I would like to pursue this mos as enlisted or if I can get into OCS that would be the ultimate goal. I just don’t know how difficult it will be to switch to active duty and if there are slots in the financial branch.

Becoming a cook was your first mistake 😆 That job blows. Finance Corps is a really small branch, so for OCS Active, there could be 1 to 2 slots in your entire class. You may have a hard time finding a unit in NG.
I'm not sure if NG can go for Active OCS. I don't think they allow it, and you'll need your commander's approval. The best bet is to do ROTC, and you get to decide for yourself if you want to go Active Duty. There's less competition for slots as the Army goes West Point, ROTC, then OCS. OCS gets the leftovers

Pat Doyle It’s a high demand job. The Finance Branch is a very small branch.

Lopez on Leadership what is the first steps to take to get information about financial manager in the Army. I’m in college and majoring in finance I plan on getting my masters in finance. When should I start looking to get involved in the process of becoming a financial manager in the Army? Thanks!
