Falken Wildpeak AT3W | Why I Downgraded From 295/70/18 To 275/70/18 On My Tundra PRO

- Опубликовано: 27 ноя 2020
- I made a video on the falken 295/70/18 saying it wont rub the stock 2020 Tundra Pro. Well it does rub on Full Lock and U-turns. I decided to Down graded tire size. i do talk about psi and road noise....Also like and subscribe.
Fukin wild peaks 🤔
lmao
I'm dying rn hahaha
LMAO
I heard the same thing !
Your oem tailgate lock video was super helpful. I'm surprised I haven't seen you on the road. I've lived in that area for years!
Thx for watching.... yeah the tundra doesn't get out much... i work all day and barely have time to drive it.
Awesome, your pick looks like it always gets you home cost affective mpg at the end of the day complete reliability. All the Best to you Brother.
F--king Wildpeaks are great!
They F--king are lol
😂 when I heard it I was like what!
where did you get the LC wheels? Did you have to modify anything to fit them in the Tundra?
Beautiful truck! That's the same size I went with on my 21 PRO.. I didn't want any issues. Smart move 👍
Thanks for watch... as we get our pro's we start to think.... im going to lift it, big tires, go all out.... then we realize it beautiful the way it is. Hahah
I think you hit the target with this size, a little larger and definitely more aggressive! I’m in New Hampshire and have the same needs as you! I bought the pro so I didn’t need to lift or anything with the suspension, did that with my former FJ! Again good call with the tires!
Thanks for watching, I'm glad we share the same view. The pro is great as is, so i think we made the correct call. Unless your a extreme off roader.
Well stated and lots of wisdom in what you said. There's lots of bad advice out there: spacers=bad / pucks=bad. If your going to lift your truck, do a genuine suspension lift or leave it be. Be really careful with the wheel OFFSET. I was thinking of going 295, but you hit it right on - I have 265/70/18 on my Tundra now with Method M705 +25 and it looks good. I may just go up one size like yours and go with 275/70/18. Many tires like the new Toyo AT3 have quite a bit of tread so they look really close to a 35.
I am also planning to change the set of my tires to 18”rims and a +25 offset with the method wheels.Does it rub at all on U turns with the stock suspension?
That color combo looks sick man!!
Thx brother...
Beautiful wheels!
Yeah back to stock but looks perfectly fine. Like you said longevity and function is most important.
Thats one of the reason why we buy a pro. Its made great already no need to do things that can hurt it down the road. Thx for watching the video.
Good points made in this video. I'm only going to go up to the 275/70/18.
I think even if you lift it a little, this tires size is still a good option. Thx for watching.
Did you powder coat your stockers or did you buy the Heritage wheels? If so where did you get them? Thanks
Bought them. They're vin lock. Had toyota pull some strings to make it happened
I'm watching and liking every video when he says Falken. These rims remind me of the Method NV's.
Yeah i caught myself saying that over and over.
There not even close to looking like method NV straightcashH
The FUCKIN wild peaks 😂
@@Ca-yj4il i just have them a little slang lol
Those rims are sweet! Did you have them powder coated? I just did a 2 inch Eibach stage 2 lift and will be buying these exact tires. Looks great
Thx for the comment. I truly appreciate it. These are actually the 2020 toyota land cruiser heritage edition wheels.
It's basically a 33 inch tire
Most likely what 275 70 18 is the most I'm getting Mickey Thompson BajaBoss, I really like the large the side walls on those.
Also 275 is the version that comes on PRO4X mine is a 265
I’m also downgrading from Cooper Discoverer STT’s 295/70R18 to Falken Wildpeaks 275/65R18. The Cooper’s were causing too many problems with alignment going out within a couple months of having an alignment done. Once alignment was out there was constant shaking on the steering wheel at low speeds and highway speeds. Done with that BS back to stock size and an all terrain wheel.
Yeah going bigger isn't always better. I know a lot of people just put up with it. But going back to stock and not having any issue's is a life changer lol.
Yea I have a 2020 pro, with 295/70r18s and the UCA is really close to the tire. I never noticed till the other day that it is that close. Although I've done many full lock turns no rubbing. Next time I'll get a little smaller tire possibly. Westcott designs makes a cool kit that utilizes your fox shocks and adjusts the preload collar allows you to fit 35s no BMC or rubbing.
Yeah 295 is way to close with out a lift. I've look into westcott and couchbuilder as well. Ultimately i decided to not do any of those. I just dont know the long term use or issues. Keeping it stock will draw less headaches down the road. Just my opinion. But both the lifts was super attempting and almost went with the Westcott.
@@sin4459 yea I totally agree keeping it stock can't go wrong. I think if you did the westcott kit it only changes the preload collar so it'd be fine but I still think the UCA will be close to the tire. I don't know if it's even safe for the tire to he that close? Nice looking truck, my wife has the AG 4runner PRO.
Nice truck I went went to 285 70 18 no issues at all NIto Ridge grappler’s
Thats what ive been hearing also. Unfortunately i live where it snow and have ice so i needed a a tires that can run all year around.
Looks absolutely perfect. Perfect tire size. Nothing crazy big but only downside about LT tires is the weight. The weigh to much and the ride isn't worth it imo. I'm gonna run same stock size tires in falkens when I need replacement. Absolutely love those tires just like you said.
Thx for watching. Yeah stock size with aggressive tires is the way to go. LT are a rougher ride your correct on that. I figure if people dont off road. You can get the tires in 116 softer tires.
@@sin4459 the ride and looks imo are worth getting a p tire over an lt. But granted if you do occasionally offroad you want the added durability of the LT but from a daily driver perspective for most its not necessary. With added weight comes decrease and more premature wear on factory components. Recently did a trip to Vegas and was going 80 to 85 the whole time with lots of hills and elevation changes. The truck handled it with ease and had so much power. Ride was amazingly comfortable and overall I averaged 16.5 mpg. Not bad at all for driving that fast and high elevation. My dad had his tundra back in 2014 with a 7 inch lift and 35s that thing would barely get 12 mpg on the highway
@@nobodyknows_115 yes, i took all that into consideration, im going to off road my truck hopefully 2021. ( covid ) stopping us from going. Sometime i just want to go back to a P tires lol.
@@sin4459 could always just daily the truck with a stock set of wheels and tires you find used from someone and then you keep a set for when you plan to go offloading. Would seem like the best of both worlds but definitely can get costly. As well as changing tires and wheels around and messing with things seems like a big hassle. Where's the happy medium lol 😆
Thats true. The wife will have my head on a stick lol
Are the Toyota wheels from another Toyota vehicle? If so, which one? Thanks! Looks awesome!
Yes these rims are from the toyota land cruiser heritage edition 2020. They're the exact same size and offset to the tundra pro only. Im not sure about the other trims ( sr5, tss, off-road, limited, etc...)
Love the bronze/gold colored wheels.
I couldn't resist thanks
Where did you get them? I've looked all over Toyota's site and can't find them in 18"@@sin4459
how did your TPM system handle the higher pressure ? Did you have to re-program them?
No reprogram was needed. Work fine
Your truck look amazing with the Heritage wheels! I’m trying to get a set of them myself. I can’t find them anywhere. I also got a tundra TRD pro, but I’m white. I also have the same mindset. I got my TRD pro because it came from the factory with a lift. I just want to add bigger tires and be done. I wanted my truck to be reliable, not saying that it’s less reliable when you Lift it. But I got my pro because of the fox suspension.
Reach out multiple toyota dealership and ask them to see if you can buy them. They are expensive
how much did it cost you for the whole set of 4 tires?
I'm having Toyo open country RT. The size of my tires is 35 x 12.50 R20LT. would that fit on my tundra (6' lifted)?
For this set of tires it ran me about $1100 for everything. For your situation I'm not really sure. I would call a tire shop and see if they'll let you put on those tires to see if it fits.
Nice truck! I'm sold with that tire brand and size, do you think will it fit fine without any rubbing with the regular Tundra suspension height? Thanks!
On a regular height it will rub. I did another video on this size and tire. I went down to 275/70/18 i was getting a lot of rubbing on the lower sway bars. Falken Wildpeak AT3W has super thick side wall so it will rub on full lock turn.
Looks good
You can always go an inch higher than the factory with zero body chop. I have 276/60/R20 on my 2020 platinum and I have zero issues with rubbing and my mpg isn't bad at all.
You chose a great wheel color for the army green
Thx so much and thx for watching
If you would have got 285/75R18's( 35 in tire) you would have been fine. Its taller than the 295 that was rubbing but its narrower and would not have rubbed. Did you feel any performance loss when you had the 295/70's on there? I'm thinking about Duratracs in 285/75R18's for my 2020 TRD PRO.
I didnt want to go to high, I like smoothness and feel of the stock pro. Performance lost on the 295/70?
YES BIG TIME. Lost acceleration/ MPG/ and corning. The tires was super heavy but with wider tires its a bit more smooth.
@@sin4459 Thanks for the info sir. Performance was 1 issue I was worried about when going big. That why I was looking at the Duratracs if I go to 285/75R18 which are 60lbs coming in lighter than the 295/70R18 Wildpeaks you had on which are about 69lbs. But if I only go up 1 inch I was looking at the Toyo's with white lettering as they were the tallest at 33.4inches.
@@dalephillips8250 If planning to hit some trials/off-road. I would go with 275/70/18. If you want to have bigger tires and keep it on pavements than you can go bigger. Biggers tires you'll lose the wheel well clearance and beware of full lock turns or U-Turns as im sure the the 285 will clear. The toyos will be a very nice option.
@@sin4459 Yes I'm will hit some trails sooner or later & the Toyo's are the ones to get at 275/70/18 as they were lightest in that group. I really wanted to Wildpeaks but they are always heavier & even the 33's that you have weigh in at 60.8lbs which are about the same weight the Duratracs are showing in the 35in 285/75/18 unless this is a misprint everywhere. Whatever size I go to I want to keep as much "Unsprung" weight off the drive train as possible. Your setup looks good and I could live with that....it just whatever I go up to I plan to stay there and not waste money going back and forth on sizes as I plan to get the spare also.
@@dalephillips8250 275/70 in toyo tires are great in my opinion. They're light as well.
Truck looks great. I have a 21 Pro Lunar Rock. May go 285 70 18 stock no lift. If I can I would do 35, 12.50, 18 again no lift if possible. What do you think?
You really can do all. You can go with 285/70/18 I personally think this is the best tire size without a lift. You can go with 295/70/18 with no lift as well but... you have to get certain tires like nitto ridge grappler or toyo open country at3. Some tires will rub with 295 so becareful. You can get 35's but you'll need spacers and removal of your front mud flaps amd minimal trimming of the front plastic part where it holds the front mud flaps.
What kind of mileage do you have on these now? Wearing good?
Thanks 😎👍
They're heavier tires but im getting 12.9 mpg not to bad, before i was getting 13.2. The tires are still very new ill have to update down the road. Only about 1500 miles on them.
I know this is an old video but any reason why you chose to run load E tires vs load D? You wouldve had a better ride and still wouldve been above factory requirement for load capacity.
I wanted E rated tires to where i can lower the psi way down if ever needed. Also, I tow my jetskis. Wanted the flexibility, but you are correct. It's a rougher ride, but i don't really mind.
285’s are more popular. Did you consider that size?
Yes sir i have... i wanted to get as closer to stock tires size so i wouldn't throw off the geometry of the pro. 285 is a great tire. Depending on how you use your truck, i would suggest you do a ton of research, possible outcome and long term use.
Hey Sid, Any issue getting these balanced? I tried these on my 4runner Pro and they could not get them balanced. Thanks.
I had no issues at all. There's a small possibility that you could of got a bad set of tires. It has happened to people. Where are you taking the tires to get balanced at? I know the dealership hates doing big tires. Try discount, tires plus etc...
@@sin4459 I have a local tire place I deal with. But this was before they got there road force balance machine. I would probably try them again when my 285’s Nitto’s where out. I know the owner and he really takes care of me. Thanks.
@@donrussell7951 just got off the phone with my brother in law. He had the same issues but the dealership was able to fix it using that machine.
Did you buy the Land Cruiser rims ?

Appreciate the info, brother. Thank you!🤙🏽
Thx for watching... much appreciated. Just trying to help others.
But i have the 2021 Trd Pro .Black ..I Love the Truck

In the possession of my brother. Lol

Where are you located and are you selling the 295s?
The 295 has been returned to the dealer a while ago sorry boss

Young Man .Thats why my old Ass is waiting till i wear the Original Tires out
If it ain't broken, don't fix it. I agree with you
How’s the MPG w this setup?
Not bad at all. The tires are a little heavier than others. Not noticeable enough.
Good
Good decision
Thx for watching brother
I have 21 TRD pro with nitto ridge grappler 295/70/18 they don’t rub whatsoever lock to lock forward or reverse.
That's 1 tire that wont rub. After tons of research, I found out the wild peaks have more tread, and bigger sidewall. Plus I went to discount tires and have them put both on. The wild peaks will rub at full lock.
@@sin4459 I’m thinking about switching to Toyo open country AT3. Do you know if they’ll run? I already picked up a spare and it looks noticeably bigger than my grappler when I roll it over side by side
@WAYNE D sry for the late reply. I would ask a tire shop to slap on the toyo. Then, do a quick full lock turn to the left or the right and see if it rubs.
@@sin4459 Al good bro. Thanks for the reply. I think I’m gonna do that. I’ll let you know how it works out for me.
It's not because of the tire. It's because of the wheel specs with that size tire
I agree with this. The engineers at Toyota know a lot more than you about designing a truck. Changing things like spacers, lifts, bigger tires may look cool but also add more wear and take miles off the lifespan of the truck. Since I want my F150 to last 300,000 miles, I too am leaving my FX4 at stock height with stock sized tires.
Thats the way to go in my opinion, but of course people are free to do what they like. I just want to avoid issues down the road. Thanks for watching.
Well considering that Toyota put a 2” lift and bigger tires (Tundra Pro) on a stock tundra, I would say that adding a lift to a stock tundra wouldn’t matter.
@@juliootero6180 exactly. I went to several dealerships recently & I saw atleast 1 or 2 / 22 tundras on each lot with spacer kits on them to level the truck. That's how toyota was selling them.
what about if you go for 285/70/18 !
I personally think that's the perfect size. Even with my 3 inch lift i have now.
I just downgraded from 315 to 285 👍
which one is better
285/70/18 ?
285/65/18?
is it a good measure?
Depending on what truck trim you have? If you have a stock trd pro, just wanted a little bigger tires, and want to off road, just my opinion i would go with 275/70/18. Now i did lift this truck another inch since this video. So i have a total of 3 inches over the stock tundra. I wanting to go to 285/70/18 but the down fall to that size is, they dont make many tires for 285/70/18
285/70 with spacers is what I’m going to do.
That was also going to be my choice. Great decision
I see no one speak of OFFSET which is key to not running.
I'm about to throw 37x12.5r18 falken wildpeaks on my tundra with bilstein 5100s front and rear lol. #do it for the gram 🤣
am I the only one who heard "the fuckin wildpeaks" ?
Absolutely not. Even i heard it. Lol
“The fuckin wildpeaks”
Also has to do with offset
Did you notice a change in your speedometer with the 275/70/18

I have my second set of 285 65s on my tundra ....0 rubber rushes . thats what you get when you dont do your homework
Well after much homework. I found out that I'm talking about 295-70 and not 65. No one was talking about 285, BUT 295 will fit a stock pro if your running toyo open country/ko2/ nitto ridge grappler. Falken side wall are to big. So im talking about 70 and not 65. Big difference.
Bro
6 inch lift on 33s or 35s
That’s the ticket.
Sorry bro, but those wheels just look ucking fugly on that Pro. Just my opinion, rock on, peace out.
Ain't even mad lol.
Good movie
Wheel spacers are shit. They will just wear out your wheel bearings and will knock alignment out.
When you mod, only trouble for the long haul. Staying stock was ideal for my pro.
Only if you go more than 1.2 cm or 10 mm that’s not much. But when you go to 1 inch and up it’s super bad
@@idontcaresapo8233 are you talking about tires or lift for the 1 inch?
@@sin4459 tires
@@idontcaresapo8233 ahhh gotcha.... yeah my next tire, I'm going back to stock size, 275/65/18 vs my current 275/70/18.
You shoulda ditched those wheels instead of buying new tires. Those tires looks super small with that 2in lift. Why buy a trd pro if youre not gonna off road it? Just buy a sr5.
The tires looks even smaller now since I lifted it another inch. I ran 295 with falken tires, and it rub the lower sway bar. Thats why i downgraded. I do plan on off roading this year. Planning on Utah and maybe Colorado on the way back home.
The rim offset as a lot to do with the size of tire you can use..
I have an 08 cruemax tundra with a leveling kit 3" in front 1" in the rear, runs great, not a big deal.
You're doing a lot of talk about 295 apperars to me that's really what you want.
