I`ve just retired from a lifetime in construction, all the way up to very senior construction management, And , just as I can tell how good a tradesman is by watching him take his tools out of his vehicle when he first rocks up tp site, so I can tell how good an architect is by how he deals with clients. Those people are very lucky to have you Eric, as their architect for sure, but even more so as their guide. I`m not blowing smoke up your arse when I say, you are the kind of architect I loved working with. It`s all about the dialogue, all about the journey.
This is great interaction between clients and architect and also great respect to the site - to build a dialogue between architecture and environment. Really enjoyed it and learned a lot. Thank you.
mrebholz that is the design process. It’s collaborative. That’s why it’s so rewarding. Especially residential work. Owners are so connected to the outcome. Not like commercial work
The only bad thing about this video is that it ends... I always get so anxious for the next upload and it takes soooo long. Gladly the the quality totally makes up to it !! Keep up the good work man, and hope u keep inspiring more and more people just like u did to me.
This is such a great insight into what architects actually do! Thank you (also to your clients for letting us get to know them and their project in this way).
I am humbled that you took us to such an intimate moment in the practice of architecture. I know how I feel before a Concept Meet and inviting is not that. So Thankful for that, and thank you for your channel
Your videos are the best place to understand simplicity , and how you represent and design things . Its just so simple , the way you explain each and everything , it all makes sense . Thank you for being here . Love from India
This is great, we are at this stage with our Architect and builder, due to start building in Feb next year. Excited more than anything. Will be fun watching from an Architects perspective almost step by step with our project.
i am intrigued by the visual work done in this video! but more than that, how u go through the design process as a unique, challenging and yet evolving experience, both professionally and personally, just makes me feel more excited that i have ever felt before in my life!
Student in Design here. Thank you so much for your amazing videos. Ive been completely lost as a first year in such nerve racking, skill based course. Always an inspiration to see your videos. Thanks for creating a community base for students to grow and improve!
I'm so glad that you are making the process available for us to see. I know a lot of your viewer can't wait to see the finish project , and so am I , but what really interest's me is the whole process . I know it wont be possible to document every aspect of this project in detail , but i'll be grateful for anything you are able to provide.
The video is fantastic, very constructive, and inspiring to the people who want to become a fabulous architect like Mr. Eric. Thank you for taking your valuable time to present us this awesome process in the field of architecture.
You are giving alot of wisdom to architects, architecture students and other demographic audience. Thank you very much for the beautiful work, sir. Cheers.
This is AMAZING, you have to HAVE TO document and share (when possible) these meetings. We can learn so much, body language, actions, communication skills, and a bunch more things that are not even stated but “picked up” on!!!
Great example of a real client meeting, where looking at the concept leads them to add a new program element- the screened porch. And they have a point- a screen porch is a great transitional space, between indoors and outdoors. If you have one, it’s a great place for a light meal, a cool beverage, and maybe a nap. Try it. I don’t think a remote screened enclosure away from the house has the same usefulness. I agree with the client, I would want a porch with access to the house and the kitchen, just as the wife suggested. I think Eric did a great job of discussing and testing this new idea, let’s see where it takes him.
Nice video! I loved how you edited this one combining your process with the real site visit. It really shows how much prep work it takes to execute a successful project. I think most people who aren’t in the industry don’t see that. They seem like awesome clients, too!! I appreciate that they are willing to share their project process with us!
I just love to where this process is taking you and us too. It's a journey and the destination is the result of both yours and your amazing Client's input and contributions! Also so amazing that your Clients are gracious enough to let you document this journey with them in your YT videos. Can't wait to see where this takes you!
Screened in porch. Love it. That’s the beauty of schematic design - there are no mistakes yet. It’s all dialog and discovery. The design reveals itself. Can’t wait for my client meeting tomorrow (7am on a Saturday). First time presenting samples
For an architecture student, ur videos are educational and interesting. I learnt some new skills which i never been taught in uni. Thank you heaps and plz continue the good work💕
This is what they dont show in arch school. Its a shame that what is needed to be taught is not taught after having spent thousands of dollars for a formal education, but found through free online youtube videos, yet the profession requires formal education. We live in a flawed system. Thank you Eric for revealing this side of the business that most dont get to see very often, if at all.
Truly wonderful to get a glimpse of your meetings! This has so much value for future designers, architects and such profession where the professionals come with an idea to discuss with clients. I thought you had a great reaction to their screening issue, it really showed the quality of your thinking. As a designer, I totally empathize and relate to this particular situation where you have to react on the fly, quite the thrill :) Thanks for sharing, this channel has so much value
I dont know if this would be possible but it would be great to see a follow up of this work, even if it takes a long time, seeing this project come to fruition and you showing us the process would be amazing. I'm learning a lot watching your videos, things they are not teaching me in school, thank you Eric!
THIS IS AWESOME!!! I love watching your client meetings and design process. As an Architecture student this is very inspiring! this gives me an insight of the profession, and keeps me motivated in school :)
Thanks Chris...it was tough to edit a day's worth of conversations down into something representative, but you're right, this is how it is...personally, I love having these discussions with smart people...
@@30by40 He said "I like it", success. They "Get it" and she has twice referenced "use it at home. She is actively visualizing and living in it already. Nice
We always have a narrative at the design presentation , you have a fantastic narrative 'of' the presentation. Well done! Great video. Love the site visit backpack
Just received my Blank Sketchbooks today and they are fantastic. Well done Sir, as with all you produce these are superb quality. Thank you for pushing the bar higher . Cheers.
Hi Eric! I'm one of your biggest fan and love your dedication on sharing your knowledge without boundaries. I hope one day I can hear or learning from you about figure-ground, how and what it is actually. Keep sharing!👍
Great as always... I guess an architect should be LUCKY to get fitting clients. And when it happens, everything falls into place.. Cheers Eric.. looking forward to the updates on the project..
You have really inspired me to reach my goals. I had a 4 in avg grade before. (6 is the best and 1 is worst. Like A-F) but now my avg grade is up to 5,6 because I know I need better grade to get into architecture school. And thx to you I will not get Into the school with my new grades. Thx from Norway

Seasons greetings from Ireland. Well done Eric. I'm in a similar place in my Career to you, use the same software & hardware, have a design cabin where as a self employed designer i get so much out of the initial ideation and tease the design elements out of the clients when the brief has become definitive and left the loose 'nice-to-haves' and reaches the more 'must-haves'. I am looking forward to seeing this design take shape on site and as a frame designer, look forward to your ever detailed specification rich videos. Recently subscribed, regular follower. Well done and wishing you continued success.
3:23 😮😆 I appreciate you showing this part of a client meeting. I'm guilty of missing a component of the program before, only to get dinged in the schematic review meeting. That blood rush into your face, yet confidence that you can work it into the design afterwards is all too familiar!
This i always watch your videos all the time, and get to realize how much more i make if i am to become an architect. Thanks for sharing your videos, it helps a lot, lot lot. 😀 🙏
what a beauty site you have there, live in four seasons country seems really nice , good job for making this video, all your videos really gives me inspiration .

Hi Eric! I'm really excited about all your work process up until now! I'm really happy that you're sharing so much of this type of experience. I saw your "site model" video and I was wondering if you could show us the model with the project in the site as well, and if you also manage, it would be great to see another one of your 3d model videos. Also, how do you make models that are made of wood like the Pond House's ? Keep up the great work, and thank you for sharing! It really does help
0:14 Paused and thumbed up at "you hope they are going to pick your favorite scheme." You certainly don't need help in this department, but perhaps a retractable screen system could be incorporated to create your double duty kind of space. A covered porch when no bugs are out and roll and snap all the screens when they are. Good luck with it all Eric. Talk soon, Matt @BOTTEGA+
I'm also at this point in a project, thank you very much for sharing, I pay a lot of attention to your design process. I´m waiting for your notebook release...
Hi Eric! I watch your videos with delight! Already a couple of years. I want to ask you, how do you find your wonderful customers? Advertising, recommendations from old customers? Or both? What becomes for your customers that point, as a result of which they decide to become yours, what do you think? Good topic for a new video. Thank you for your perfect vlog!
