  • I was surprised how cheap it was to buy an HEI for this Ford 302. Came with the coil and control module so all you have to do is give it 12V. Here is the one I bought - amzn.to/3BvhWce (affiliate) and the wires - amzn.to/2YBBLjO (affiliate)

    I like how you say "It works just fine for me".
    That's the difference between people who just repeat what others say and people that do things. You will know if it works or not when you do it.

    Make sure HEI is connected to =12v and not though a ballast resistor or ballast wire.

    Hey I done a efi to carb swap on my 1990 f250 302, im installing one of these hei distributors, I have everything down so far but im not sure what to do with the efi wiring harness, like the harness for the lights and all that. Do you know what to do? Cause the hei distributor didn't come with a plug for the harness

    • @armyhack96
      @armyhack96 11 месяцев назад

      Haber hombre yo acabe de finalizar una conversión de un Ford 392 de efi a carburador, tuve que quitar todo el arnés de cables y rehize la electricidad completa del carro, el +vcc, del hei se conecta al swich de encendido del vehículo además de la bomba de gasolina qué en este caso se debe poner una que sea Para carburador osea, la presión debe ser especifica para carburador, y lo otro que se debe conectar al swich es el +vcc de los relojes del panel frontal, pues esos deben prender cuando el carro encienda, en si eso es muy fácil, el dolor de Cabeza es el Tema de luces, eso si es algo complejo , en mi caso tuve que usar diodos de 10 amperios, de rectificacion, para poder separar los canales de direccionales, izquierdo derecho y unir además las luces trasera para las direccionales, los diodos son la clave para separar y al mismo tiempo unir las líneas de luces, el resto es pan comido, a mi lo que más me complicó es el Tema de esas líneas, el resto lo que es conectar el distribuidor hei y la bomba de gasolina es fácil van en una sola línea tienen que encender ambas al accionar la llave del carro y el arranque va en la Linea de arranque de la llave, después va a la bobina de arranque y esta acciona el mismo, en si es sencillo, pero si toma tiempo de trabajo. Al hacer esa conversión lo unico qué se debe quitar son los cables el resto se deja igual, el canister todo debe quedar en el mismo lado, y según como quiera hacer la adaptación, se puede dejar el mismo manifold pero se debe hacer un adaptador para el mismo que conecte al carburador o en su caso se debe cambiar el múltiple de admisión completo, en mi caso hize un adaptador para conectar el carburador a la misma toma donde hiba el cuerpo de aceleración, de esa manera no tengo que desarmar medio motor y queda más Estetico pues eteticamente queda muy similar al sistema fuel inyection, pero con carburador, estoy en eso, es algo experimental, lo he visto en carros más pequeños y si funciona pero jamás lo he visto en un Ford 302 aun así debería funcionar, debido a que se usa la misma admisión del egr para en vez de meter humo por hay se mete combustible + aire, y la valvula egr queda en su misma pocision tal cual, en pocas palabras lo único que se saca es el arnés, la computadora y la mariposa de aceleración. Y en vez de esta se pone el carburador.

    Where does the coil spark plug wire go to when converting with this exact same distributor? I bought one of these off of Amazon as well as the two wire plug separately and I’m having a difficult time figuring out where to put the ignition coil wire from the factory ignition coil it used to go to the center of the old distributor cap.Thank you in advance for any help

    • @Struggleville2
      @Struggleville2  10 месяцев назад +1

      The old distributor had an external coil to you had a short wire going from the coil to the distributor. This new distributor has an internal coil so you no longer need that short wire.

    Hey! So, I have a '74 K20. I got it running, but it didn't have much power when I stepped on the gas. I thought I needed to adjust the timing and tweak the carburetor. I started with the HEI distributor, set it to top dead center, dropped the distributor in, and put the spark plug wires in the right order. But it's still not running right, even though I know there's spark and it's getting gas. It cranks but won't fire, and now the carb is spitting gas out the top.

    • @Struggleville2
      @Struggleville2  5 месяцев назад

      Its not running right or not running at all? I dont know what issue you had to begin with but I would guess you have the distributor 180 degrees out right now. Take the cap off and see where the rotor is aiming then pull the distributor and rotate it 180 degrees.

    • @craigvoclain1406

      Make sure you have firing order correct. If it's a 5.0 ford none ho it's a different firing order than a 5.0 H.O or 351

    Points and condenser's aren't really difficult to do, the issue for most people though is, the distributor has a bad reputation with moisture already, the points and condenser's only add to the misery, plus they need to be adjusted often. It's dead tech (if you can even call it that) and no one wants the hassle lol going electronic is cheap and soo much better.

    I had an issue with my HEI DISTRIBUTOR. I was wondering why wasn't my C10 truck starting . At first it was, no problem starting. Than I decided to install spark plug wires insulation sleeves. I had concerns about the wires to close to the exhaust. Anyway, once I remove the wire from the distributor. And putting everything back on the the same way. It wouldn't start. I said to myself what the heck is going on. I had fuel, New battery, New Starter. The engine would crank. I remove the power to distributor and reclip it back in the HEI BATTERY TACH. It started first turn on the key. I believe once you remove the wires from the distributor, u have to reboot the HEI BATTERY tachometer. I'm I correct? Please advise. Thank you Robert

    I dont blame you for going to electronic ignition but points are very easy and simple to adjust and work with. Dwell is an easy adjustment with a cheap dwell meter. Could you put a 90 degree fitting on the intake manifold for the heater hose would that stop it from hitting the cap? Looks like you have a lot of restoration work to do on the mustang.

    • @Struggleville2
      @Struggleville2  2 года назад

      Yeah at some point that is probably what I will do with the heater hose. The mustang definitely looks rough but has come a long way. My dad and I replaced everything from the firewall forward like 15 years ago. Frame rails, shock towers, torque boxes, radiator and radiator support, springs, shocks, control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, brakes... everything. Hoping to work on it this winter but that means putting the Caprice or Corvette in the tent and I have to figure out how to keep mice out first. Might try one of those zip up car covers.

      There's a vacuum port on the carburetor. It will vary between different makes of carbs, though. On a 4 barrel Holley it's located on the front lower left hand side, on the base plate.

      Does not matter

    • @Ka_Gg
      @Ka_Gg 8 месяцев назад +1

      When lining a distributor up, the only thing that matters is that the spark goes to the correct spark plug and at the correct time. I'm more use to a Chevy but the concept is all the same. Hell, you could have rotor facing backwards at TDC when normally it's supposed to be forward, but the main thing that matters is that the plug wires are changed to adjust for that.

    Jesus Christ, man that was the most uneducational thing I've ever seen. You focused on a lot of BS when you could have gotten to the important facts. Like one, it doesn't matter where the MF distributor falls, you can run number one from there. Did you know that!!! Ok number two, it only takes a Electronic Ignition distributor off an old Ford and the PCM off the driver fender and the four wire harness that goes from the PCM to the distributor. Run a hot wire from a fuse to the red wire coming in the PCM, it will be with a while wire. It's done

      Actually the Hall Effect Ignition isn't near as good as the Dura spark ignition. it uses the same components as MSD. except for the ignition module. and the Dura spark is a direct wire up to the MSD module. and Dura spark is a true CDI (capacitive discharge ignition). and HEI distributors have an issue with the bushings failing. because of all the weight from the mechanical advance being up high on the distributor shaft. not to mention the fitment issues.
