  • I had a few gutter sections laying around and, finally decided to put them up and collect rainwater before my source opened to the public.
    I hope you enjoy.
    Keep kicking up dust!
    Fo shizzle!

I am looking into getting heating coils to line the last 3" of the roof which we can use to heat the last bit of edge (snow melt zone) in the winter. I'll have to size it to keep the battery bank up. You are way ahead of us!!

Be sure you try to place your gutters in a way that the rain and melted snow will go in them, but when the snow slides off, it will go past. I thought of putting up a blocker so the snow won't slide at all, but any more than a foot of now up there and I'd start to get nervous

Water collection is paramount. I was able to get up on the mountaintop Thursday and Friday and get the CASE Backhoe Loader back up and operating - trying to dig footers for the 30'x40' Steel Canopy. Great Job, Brother!! Hoping you get every drop of water to fill your tanks!!

@@WindwalkerHomestead sure hoping so! I am speaking with a guy down in New Mexico (of all places) and he has 3x 25,000 gallons storage tanks... for what - I am unsure... but he has a lot of water!

Wow! That is nuts, but in the southwest, I suppose you have to be prepared for long periods with no rain. I watch a guy called frugal off grid in Arizona and he has quite a bit as well, but he also has animals to take care of and used billboard vinyls for the cisterns. I thinknthat is a great idea and I want to get one to make a pond here

@@WindwalkerHomestead I will have to check them out - thanks! Hadn't heard of using billboard vinyl for ponds!

That was the first time I've heard of it, too. He uses them for a couple ponds and cisterns

Are you installing a First Flush system - I'm looking into how to build one right now. Try to keep as much dirt out of the catchment system as we can.

I did no put one in. There are no trees, or anything else around that will cause a problem. It will take years for enough dust to get into the tank to cause a problem. By then, we will have the cabin built and have a new system in place
