THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! As soon as your Ferro Rod strikes produced flame, you stopped striking it. I see some of the guys on here striking their Ferro Rod several more times, once a flame has been produced and I'm thinking; "What are you DOING!?!?!?!?". The BEST Ferro Rods are good for 10,000 strikes or more... But there's going to come a time, near the end of its life, where EVERY single strike matters and if you're stranded or living the true "Mountain Man" lifestyle then you should stop striking your Ferro Rod, Flint, or anything else you're using as SOON as it goes to flame; Just for that time when you might be down to your last strike, in a situation where you're trying to prevent hypothermia or anything of the sort.
Thank you for the reply, I would agree I do see people striking the heck out of the poor old ferro rod . To me its a tool and like any tool you it wisely ,fire is the most important thing where i live.
