  • The Lake Hudson Recreation Area is in the very southern part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, near Ohio. It sits on a large no-wake lake and is a designated Dark Sky Preserve. It could make for a peaceful weekend getaway -- but remember to bring a LOT of extension cord because some sites are quite a distance from their assigned power poles.

I've never camped here, but it's one of my favorite lakes to fish. Going out there today for the first time in 4 years. 8/03/2021

Thanks for watching and commenting. We enjoyed our camping experience there, even though we had a cloudy night and couldn't take advantage of the dark sky in the area. Safe travels -- enjoy your trip!

Have friends that introduced me to this area! Had to see it here before we camp in May! Girls weekend!

I'm lucky enough to live down the road from this park so it's one of my favorite places to be. There's a few more state recreation areas around the property with more hiking trails to the other sides of the lake

Nice! That would be a handy park to have nearby. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Hahaha! Yeah, one thing about our channel being behind right now is we get to enjoy warmer weather again. Or maybe we're just torturing ourselves. 😏 -Ari

Nice park! With only 50 sites I imagine it's booked up most of the time yes?
Love your content btw -- my g/f grew up in Pontiac, so she's been telling me how great MI is for quite a while now and I see what she meant via your videos. Thanks for doing what you do!

It can book up during the busy seasons, although it's probably not quite as popular as other parks since it's only semi-modern. 😀 Many folks like their running water and the ability to plug in multiple air conditioners these days, so this park's vault toilets and smaller electricity grid may keep some people away.
Thanks for watching and the nice comment. As we've traveled to different places, we have learned that we're pretty spoiled living in Michigan with all of its great outdoor adventure opportunities! -Ari

I’m from Hudson and it’s a town of 2,000 ppl. Hudson lake is located a few miles out off an even smaller village called Clayton (population 500 tops I’d say) so I’m laughing at the idea of it being booked. 😂

Maybe not by the locals, but the out of towners seem to be booking up just about everywhere these days! Although if you can do rustic or semi-modern, it's still the best bet for finding an open spot.

@@kayla7562 I used to tent camp there a while ago coming from detroit . back in the day Morenci to the south of the park had a teensy little hospital . Back then you could just drive in and get a spot.

Thanks for watching and subscribing! We have so many great places to visit, and we discovered that no matter how you like to camp or what kind of outdoor activity you like to do, Michigan probably has a state park that you could enjoy.

Is that a Roth Tee Shirt Company shirt? I love their shirts. On a side note, I was not aware of this Campground. I may have to head south to go camping.

Good eye! I am, indeed, wearing a Roth Co. t-shirt. 😁 I'm glad we found you a new campground to check out. Hopefully, you'll get luckier than we were and you can get a clear night to enjoy the dark sky features. -Ari

Where do you shower if you are just tent camping?

    • @Trekers
      @Trekers  Месяц назад +1

You don't...? We have found Venture Wipes to be great alternatives to stay freshened up on camping or RV boondocking trips when showering isn't readily available. There also are waterless soaps that work well, too, and can be more economical.

One big piece of advice, be careful here as it's quite overgrown and historically has been know to have a VERY high tick population. Also not sure why this is listen as "semi-modern" most parks in Michigan that only have electric and vault toilets (AKA outhouses) are referred to as rustic. The lake is nice, heavily stocked eith muskie, in fact the state record muskie was caught here a few years back.

It sounds like tick populations are exploding all over this year in Michigan, so that makes your warning even more important. Thanks for watching and for commenting with this information!
