  • We sat down with Brittany Marom, of Brittany Marom Interior Designs, a NYC-based Interior Design company who styled the interiors of 61 Rivington. Her unique design style compared with the history of The Library made for an incredible opportunity to own a piece of New York City history.

Welcome to The Library, a stunning rendition of modern elegance and adaptive reuse architecture nestled in the heart of the Lower East Side. Beneath an alluring façade that juxtaposes the original McKim, Mead & White Classical Revival base with a contemporary glass crown, this one-of-a-kind boutique building features 11 gorgeous homes in thoughtful 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom layouts.
61 Rivington Street was built in 1905 by McKim, Mead & White and served as the downtown branch of the New York Public Library. The renowned architectural firm was also responsible for the original Pennsylvania Station, the Brooklyn Museum, the Washington Square Arch, and the Columbia University campus. The building was designed in the Classical Revival style and featured square Corinthian columns and an entablature and parapet. It was also the first library in the city with a covered open-air reading room, a feature that was copied and incorporated into other buildings. After serving as a dance hall and restaurant and then a church, the building was transformed yet again when The Horizon Group purchased the property in 2018. By preserving the structure from 1905 and adding 3 new glass stories, the developer and design teams achieved their vision of paying homage to the original NYPL while developing an upscale, boutique condominium on the LES. The Library’s intricate cornices, timeless terrazzo floors and elegant natural stone were some of the design elements that stemmed from this collaboration of contemporary and adaptive reuse architecture.
High ceilings that reach up to 13-ft add grandeur and scale to spacious open-concept layouts. Oversized windows, beautiful wide plank light oak floors, exposed brick walls, and custom built-out closets offer a wide range of design and interior styling possibilities. Subtle tones and clean lines act as the ideal palette for home cooks as they flex their culinary imaginations. Chic finishes like natural stone countertops and backsplashes and matte lacquered walnut cabinets complement high-end equipment packages that include integrated InSinkErators and Wolf, Asko, and Sub-Zero appliances.

So happy they respected the original character and didn't covert it into yet another all white loft. Lovely and warm.

I love this remodel. So well done. I wonder who did those first set of overhead lights? The ones that look like mesh pods? I freaking love them!

You showed a kitchen an old floor and the views outside. We didn’t need the lecture. Where’s the rest of it?
