  • Thank you for watching!!! Don’t forget to subscribe and share my videos with a new Gardner you know who needs some support and ideas!!!
    Carrot and other tiny seeds can be difficult to sow with adequate spacing and depth, especially if you can’t see them in the soi! Pelleted seeds are seeds that are coated in clay for easier handling. This video has some tips and techniques for planting carrots, including using pelleted seeds, amending the soil appropriately, sowing thickness, and making a homemade seed tape. Seed tape is a great idea to make using some toilet paper and water - and an optional glue made from one part flour and one part water. Seed tapes can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container until it is time to plant. Make sure to plant carrots in aerated, fluffy soil!! Carrots can also be succession planted, with the last planting done in time to allow full grown carrots to be mulched for winter. The cold soil will make carrots sweeter!!

    Great tip. If you will forgive a suggestion - draw lines on the paper so that you can cut individual seeds out as disks. Plant the individual seeds on the top of toilet roll centres, filled with a very fine compost which is enriched with fish, blood & bone meal, and cover with a little vermiculite. The cardboard roll acts as a root trainer an reduces the chance of the carrot becoming split or distorted. I plant about 25 in a bucket every 2 weeks. In previous years this ha worked very well and takes very little space. Keep up the good work, I'm sure that people who are nervous or unsure will gain confidence from your demonstrations.

    Great idea! Remember seeing the commercial toilet paper that is slick on giant rolls? I wonder if that would work too?
    I like your idea

    Great idea...I went to pelletier carrot seeds a few years and am very happy with them. Saying that though I will give your TP tapes a whirl this spring!
    Thanks for doing the video!

    Or you could just fold over the paper instead of cutting it, and use a spray bottle of water:)

    would a hand sprayer work as well as the sponge?

      I think the toilet paper is too flimsy for a sprayer. You could try.

    Will the seeds not germinate with moisture on the strip?

    • @patriotgarden8489
      @patriotgarden8489  2 года назад

      They will, but letting them dry makes the seeds stick to the tape-easier “installation” and then let moist soil do its job.
