@@Spaughshalfacrehomestead I’m not sure what you mean by super soil mix, but I started with 3.8 cubic foot bag of peat moss and mixed in an equal amount of perlite. Thank you, thank you, thank you for teaching us how to amend soil for carrots! Used your method for the first time this season and the carrots grew beautifully. They actually come out of the ground with a slight pull on the greens. In the past I had to use a trowel to get them loose enough to pull. Next year should be even better.

I had a lot of fun getting the soil just like yours, took a lot of perlite to get the soil just right, but i'm confident i'm going to have a nice carrot crop this summer. I use store bought carrots in my juicing every morning, then take the pulp to the composter, can't wait to try my carrots.

Or at least straight would be nice. Beggers can't be choosers. I guess right about now your both getting the garden ready for Spring planting. My best wishes that you have a wonderful harvest!
Waving from Memphis, TN! I cannot say enough how much I love all the DETAILS that you share in your videos. I am planting my first fall garden this week. This is the method I will use to grow the carrot seeds in my garden to ensure success. Question: What are those white containers next to the carrot beds and what do you typically plant in those?
They were food storage grade 50 gallon drums that we cut in half to make use of the space between the beds... We change up what we grow in them, but my favorite thing to grow in them is the different herbs... They had cucumbers in them earlier this year... The soil needs some work so I may let them stand till fall and work on them when it cools off.... Thanks so much for watching !

Just be sure to keep after them thinning when they come up... If they have trouble, you can find the pelleted seed at www johnnyseeds com and maybe do a Fall planting !
Vermiculite is not quite the same. Yes it makes a soil more airy but at the end of the day it’s a clay, absorbs water while perlite does not( had 50 lb bags of both get rained on, your not moving vermiculite easily) & it will loose texture in the long run. Not what you want if you want soils to dry out between waterings say for cacti.
@@catalystcody4949 I must say that saying vermiculite being a "clay" is news to me. I am going to look that one up. It is surely NOT a clay product. IF you are correct I will apoligize, BUT, I don't think it is.
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
Great video! My problem with my first batch of carrots was too much sun, so I had to replant them in a box inside. They are doing great about another week I can replant them outside

I’ve never had a successful carrot harvest and now I know why! I’ve got everything you’ve listed, now to get the energy to prepare a carrot bed 😜. Energy is an ingredient I’m finding elusive these days as I age, lol Would this be a plan for turnips, beets and other root vegetables as well?
Its a bit of work, but a good carrot bed will serve you for years to come... Those beds there have been set up for carrots for about 8 years now and they are still going strong and getting richer every year (with refreshing the soil like we do)... I think a good harvest will make the effort worth it ! Have a great weekend !
Great video, especially the mention of adding magnesium as that's something I've never done. I've been growing carrots for 10 years with better success each year, and hopefully the addition of a little epsom salt prior to planting will help even more!

Hi BBJ... keep on coming back to this one buddy... Such a great and innovative system I cant resist the tips and hints here.. we are starting ours off next week man, so wish us luck mate... ATB from North Western GB Brother.. Guru M
I cheap way to start is to fill them to about 6" from the top with straw, and then dump (rinse) peat moss down through it as filler... Then in the last 6 inches, focus more on the amendments in the proportions here... Thanks for watching ! Hope that helps !
Bumble Bee Junction starting to gather supplies for spring and raised beds. Question: So do we do the fall layering after straw/peat moss and the spring amendments for our 1st ever bed. It just seems to make sense that way. Then follow by fall layering? Lol...this is HUGE for us to get it right.
I have tried several hybrids of the Nantes carrots, and seem to like them the best in the end since I seem to always go back to them... You can get the pelleted seed at www johnnyseeds com Thanks again for watching !
Most of the time, that is what we do also... But the idea of this video was to do it from things our viewers could find at the big box stores and still have some success... And many of the additives were organic anyway...
If you will click my logo in this response, it will take you to our main page... There, you will find our playlists... In the GARDENING playlist you will find several videos of us planting and harvesting carrots from these boxes... In the soil mix shown...
Wow that looks so easy now I know how to grow carrots I will try it and see how I do you make it seem so easy so I will be trying it soon for the fall thank you and have a blessed day
In the comments Cindi Vinisi asked this question as we all wanted to know the answer. Lol we literally begged for this tutorial video. Cindi's comment was about 6 months ago. Hope you get all your answers if not ask. Mark and Tina are fantastic with helping their subscribers. We love this channel and rightfully so. 😊
Cardboard (weed suppression).... Hardware cloth (critter suppression)... Straw or Hay (cheap filler)... I think after that, I would load the bed with loose peat moss, and amend it from there... But peat is bulky and will get you filled up to where you can work with it...
Cherrie... I am not a big fan of sand and carrots, but that is just me... If you've seen our harvest videos, obviously we can grow them without it... Many times, it becomes too dense for the carrots to grow long... If you are adding it to loosen up clay, then I would suggest gypsum instead...
@@BumbleBeeJunction Another reason I ask is that peat moss can get very expensive and half a bag goes for what a full bag went for a few years ago. The good thing is that it's acidic and therefore some pests do not like to get neat it. Oak leaves and pine needles are also acidic and cam be gathered locally. I used to live near a peat bog so it was a little more affordable, but still is more money than resourcing pine needles or oak leaves and shred them up.
Great informative video. Coming from Texas to Florida, I had never grown carrots - the soil where I am from from is too dense and clay like. I really want to attempt carrots (the reason for my looking at older videos!). .My husband has built me (8) 4’x9’ raised beds so I plant to dedicate at least one bed to root veggies. I already have potato patches growing in the ground. Sending Blessings!

Yes... Always good advice... Vermiculite is about the same... Thank you for sharing ! 😍
My exact thought, I cut cacti soil with it using 50lb bags... same with any guano, deadly to the lungs
I've seen that it is made up of a "silicate" material, which makes me think of sand, BUT, perhaps it is not so simple.
A very good constructed video on how to grow carrots.I will give this a try for sure.Cheers!
I really look forward to trying this with my bed! Thanks for the detailed instructions, there is so much information. Thank you both!
Thank you so much for watching ! We really appreciate the support ! And we certainly wish you the best with your adventure !
great, informative video.i'm growing carrots now!they will be a great addition to my organic container garden.thank you very much.
Thank you for watching and good luck with your garden !
I would love to have seen how the carrots looked after the 5 days. I will be replanting my carrots hopefully soon. Janice
They are not up quite yet at 5 days... At 10 days they look like short very fine green threads...
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account??
I somehow lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Aron Jaxxon instablaster :)
the video i was looking for thank you.
Welcome 😊
Great video! My problem with my first batch of carrots was too much sun, so I had to replant them in a box inside. They are doing great about another week I can replant them outside
Sounds like a plan ! God luck ! And thank you for watching !
Best carrot video ever!
Thank you so much ! When I get to feeling better we are going to pull the carrots we planted... They are beautiful... We are excited...
@@BumbleBeeJunction I planted mines exactly the same way you showed in the video and they are halfway through. Very beautiful so far! Hope you get better soon! All the way from Puerto Rico!
Great instruction 👍🏻 makes sense when you see it done.
Thanks so much... Its funny when you do something all the time without thinking, but trying to explain it is a whole different matter... LOL
Very true I’m awful at explaining things lol
I hear ya :)
I keep failing at gardening, and keep trying year after sad, sad year, & I’m so happy to find someone who can show me how to grow carrots (& other things). Such GREAT instructions! How can I fail now!?!!! Haha! I can even get some in the planter box tomorrow! Whoooo-hooo!
LOL... We are eager to share in your success so please let us know how things go !
I’ve never had a successful carrot harvest and now I know why! I’ve got everything you’ve listed, now to get the energy to prepare a carrot bed 😜. Energy is an ingredient I’m finding elusive these days as I age, lol
Would this be a plan for turnips, beets and other root vegetables as well?
Its a bit of work, but a good carrot bed will serve you for years to come... Those beds there have been set up for carrots for about 8 years now and they are still going strong and getting richer every year (with refreshing the soil like we do)... I think a good harvest will make the effort worth it ! Have a great weekend !
Great video, especially the mention of adding magnesium as that's something I've never done. I've been growing carrots for 10 years with better success each year, and hopefully the addition of a little epsom salt prior to planting will help even more!
Sounds like a plan ! Good luck !
Just found your channel. You sure explained things good! Very nice video! 😊
Thank you so much ! Hope you enjoy the channel ! We really appreciate the support !
By far the best complete guide to planting carrots! Thank you so much for this!
Glad it was helpful!
A great bit of garden knowledge. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Really enjoyed learning it.
Thanks so much for watching ! We really love sharing (even if we aren't great at it) but the feedback has been amazing and we really appreciate it... We'll keep working to improve... Thank you so much for your ongoing support !

I for one think y'all are great. Custructive criticism helps y'all grow. If any of the whiners want to make videos & see all it entails, I challenge them to try.
Keep doing what y'all are doing. I'm taking notes. 😀💖
Thanks so much for the kind words... We are always looking to improve... Its been an interesting road !
My niece followed this video her carrots were huge!
That is really awesome, and we are so thankful for the feedback ! We LOVE hearing of other's success ! Congrats to your niece !
Great video! Have you made any other “detailed videos” like this for growing other vegetables? If not, I would love to arch and learn about other vegetables as well!
We have not done them yet, but we plan to... We have been working to improve... First we had to get away from the old slideshow videos we made and get on camera... Now that we are, we will be taking a look at almost everything we grow in more depth as the seasons come and go... Hope you will stay tuned !
Thomas Terry yes!!! Green beans lol!
I was wondering why sometimes I got great carrots harvest but sometimes it was a zonk. Gotta improve my soil next spring, I guess. Thank you for the tutorial. I really appreciate your content here. God bless.
Hahaha!!! 🤣 You used "we" a lot...but the only I saw doing any work was Tina!!! 😂 GREAT VIDEO!!! It helped a ton!! Thank you!!!!
Don't worry... If I didnt pull my weight, she wouldn't feed me... LOL
Thank you for your generous sharing of excellent tips!
Thanks so much for watching Raji !
THANK YOU FOR SUCH AN INFORMED & DETAIL VIDEO YALL.WE GOT IT SAVED& ILL HAVE TO WRITE IT ALL DOWN IN MY GARDEN JOURNAL. OUR RABBIT WOULD HAVE A FIELD DAY WITH THAT RAISED BED YALL. DID OUR PESKEY FRIEND FINALLY LEAVE. PEACE&SAFE JOURNEYS YALL
I believe the beaver got tired of swimming around in sulfur / rotten eggs and moved on to fresher water, but we are still keeping an eye out...
Bumble Bee Junction GREAT BROTHER. U & URE WIFE ARE GOOD PEOPLE.
We were hoping we could inspire him to move... They really are amazing creatures... And it would have been easy enough to just shoot him... But the world needs cool creatures too... Just not in my backyard, chewing down my trees... LOL
Bumble Bee Junction AMEN THEY MAKE GREAT LOGGERS NOT IN YOU'RE BACK YARD.
Wow that was awesome. I’ve never had luck with carrots. Now I know why.
Glad we could help ! Hope things work out ! Please let us know !
And here I was going to ask you if I can have the sports page when you were done reading it. LOL As soon as it cools down a bit, it is 105 degrees today, I'll try your method. I'll use the California Dreaming pages to cover the soil.
Ya never know... Then carrots may be dreaming of California too ! ahahaha Thanks so much for watching !
I am growing carrots this year and THIS is the video I am going with. Thanks for sharing with us your experience!
You are so welcome! Please let us know if you run into any troubles... Glad to help if we can !
Would like to see what the carrots looked like when they are harvested.

Had to Sub you for this BBJ & Tina.. :-) This is Tony from The Little Farmers Farm Channel over in the UK... This upload was fantastic… Exactly what I was looking for sir...

Hi BBJ... keep on coming back to this one buddy... Such a great and innovative system I cant resist the tips and hints here.. we are starting ours off next week man, so wish us luck mate...
ATB from North Western GB Brother.. Guru M
Im new too E Yorks UK, home grown vegs Jim has great smaller tips like container carrots in 10 inch buckets n fast germination on tissue paper.
It's really useful for a plant killer like me.
I’m planning on making my own raised beds with some leftover wood, for some carrots to grow in, what depth does it need to be?
I think I would like to have between 12 and 16 inches of soil for carrots, depending on the variety...
Thank you for so much information. Not boring just simple direct instruction .
Thank you so much ! We appreciate ya watching, and your support !
How do you get Miss Tina to do all the work? lol
Just kidding.
Thank y’all for sharing.
I subscribed.
LOL... Pretty sure if I didnt pull my wieght, Ms T would quit feeding me... ahahaha So far, she lets me sleep indoors still after 20+ years..
Bumble Bee Junction
That’s funny, lol.
I really enjoy your channel.
Thanks again.
Man.....I enjoyed that!!!! Thank You
How do you fill the carrot beds to start? The same layering system?
I cheap way to start is to fill them to about 6" from the top with straw, and then dump (rinse) peat moss down through it as filler... Then in the last 6 inches, focus more on the amendments in the proportions here... Thanks for watching ! Hope that helps !
Bumble Bee Junction thank you
Please let us know if there is anything else we can do...
In one video you addressed all the reasons why my past attempts failed. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Im a convert!
LOL... Oddly, the video comes from our past failed attempts... ahahaha
Awesome video! I need some pelleted carrot seed. Do you have a favorite variety? I'm in central Alabama so i figure my zone wouldn't be too differient
I have tried several hybrids of the Nantes carrots, and seem to like them the best in the end since I seem to always go back to them... You can get the pelleted seed at www johnnyseeds com Thanks again for watching !
Received my carrot seeds today, waiting til fall to plant
makes me wanna go plant a bunch of carrots!
ahahahaha.... Sound good ! Hope you enjoy the rest of the channel as well !
Great video, only thing I would change is substitute the products for organic. Not a miracle grow fan. Thanks
Most of the time, that is what we do also... But the idea of this video was to do it from things our viewers could find at the big box stores and still have some success... And many of the additives were organic anyway...
Would like to see carrots grown .
If you will click my logo in this response, it will take you to our main page... There, you will find our playlists... In the GARDENING playlist you will find several videos of us planting and harvesting carrots from these boxes... In the soil mix shown...
Wow that looks so easy now I know how to grow carrots I will try it and see how I do you make it seem so easy so I will be trying it soon for the fall thank you and have a blessed day
What if your starting a new bed from scratch, what goes in first
In the comments Cindi Vinisi asked this question as we all wanted to know the answer.
@@BumbleBeeJunction does sand mix work with carrots?
Glad it was helpful ! Sounds like you are well set up for a great Fall !
There's soil in there somewhere I recon.
Well... There is no actually ground soil in the boxes... But plenty of other good stuff... LOL 😍
That is a lot of information on planting carrots. I don't know how anyone could fail if they follow you're planting tips. Another great video on gardening.
Thanks so much Jacky ! I appreciate the kind words ! Very glad you enjoyed the video ! Hope you have a great weekend !
Bumble Bee Junction. Thanks my friends. I trust you have a wonderful weekend yourself.
Thanks :)
You are doing the talking but your lady seems to be doing the work ?
LOL... Somebody has to film, and she hates filming... But you can trust that I do my share, or Tina would not feed me... ahahaha Everything has to pull its weight around here... You are only seeing a snapshot...
Very clear instructions, especially for a beginner (like me)
Thank you so much ! I am hopeful it will come in handy for you ! Appreciate ya watching Sandy ! Hope you enjoy the channel !
Next year I am planning to have my first carrots bed! So excited 😆. Thanks so much for all the information!! I’ll definitely try your technique ! Love it!

The best video on internet how to grow carrots hands down
Thank you so much for your kind words and support !
@@BumbleBeeJunction seriously, people don't know what soil is best for what type of crops. You taught a lot of people how to.grow food
Also. I watched others videos specifically the one for the super soil where you talked about boron. Man, you are a goat. I didn't know anything about it and most people dont.
Awesome video, Thanks. Best video I have watched explaining the steps, I will try your directions this season.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you guys for sharing a lot of good information happy gardening!😊
Interesting. Lots of ways to do things. Enjoy seeing different approaches & will try it out in my raised beds. Thanks
Agreed... The idea was to put together a method that struggling or new growers could use with a high degree of success from products they can buy at the local big box... Just one way of many, as you said...
Bumblebee Junction I have two raised beds not used in 2 years. I will give your soil prep methods a try on some carrots. Showing the way to amend the soil by using the local big box products helps a lot. Thanks
How fantastically educational! Thank you so much for sharing such information. Awesome.
